So since my French teacher is a white person who clabbers at any kind of culture she had us watch Phantom of the Opera the last 2 days of class, I thought it would be awesome, it wasn't.
I always kind of thought that PotO was an early badass play, that it was about a guy who wore a mask and killed a bunch of artsy bastards in a theater in France. No. The musical (yes it's a musical, 1.23123E10372463 strikes against it) centers around some girl who sings, she is the kind of "soft spoken yet extremely talented" girl that that girl who wears a cape to school was told she would be at some point. So this girl finds Raul, her childhood sweetheart, they obviously start bangin again, but the problem is the "AAANGEL OF MUUUUSIC" (the phantom) has a boner for this girl (Christina) and wants her, when she sucks face with Raul in front of the phantom he goes into an emo bitch fest and drops a chandelier on everyone in the theater during Dante's Inferno.
And all of that drags on for like 3 loving hours because these people can't even blow their damned nose without singing.
All of the enjoyment I got out of PotO:
1. Wondering if the stagehand was the guy who played Theodin in LOTR.
2. Wondering what was wrong with the Phantom's face.
3. Wondering if that leading actress would be topless at any point.
Say what you want to about "art" and "beautiful story telling" it's still stuff.
