Some SA guy mentioned France and a courtyard.  I was thinking of it as an operahouse, but maybe a garden?

Florence :P

Yeah, it was this really cool courtyard, with a staircase like that.  The surrounding building went up about five or six stories, and I believe had been converted into an art museum.  I haven't been there in years, but as I recall that kind of layout with a cool stone courtyard is pretty common for that city.

Incidentally the building in question was a lot like a castle... so... go for it!

Damn, these look seriously awesome, Muffin.

There is nothing "mini" about that chaingun. :P

The voidcaller explosion looks a little like an angry swarm of bees.  Perhaps it is an angry, soul-sucking swarm of bees.  Awesome.

Looking forward to these.

Suggestions & Requests / Elevator Vehicle?

Nuff said.

Perhaps 8x8x(height)?  12x12?  Some nice, easy interval.  Even 5x5 so it fits on the spawn neatly.

This strikes me as pretty simple to make, but I'm not a modder so I dunno.  Pretty much just a nice box.

Quite nifty.

A build like this takes a ton of planning, the kind I never have the attention span for... so I really respect this.

General Discussion / Re: Limited Color Palette
« on: July 29, 2007, 08:43:14 PM »
What you think you need a million colors to convey can often (read: almost always) be visually solved through lighting and differing juxtapositions between colors.

Think about it this way:  A given street muralist or graffiti artist has, on a good day, maybe 32 colors of spraypaint to play around with.  And their (good) stuff doesn't ever look boring.

Okay some screenies proper, now that I don't have a headache:

This build was somewhat inspired by a building on the Harvard campus called Annenburg Hall (my spelling may be off.)

Yeah so the build is done; like stated earlier, it is a team build between myself and MadCat_mk2; however, the main hall is entirely of my design and serves as my USSR application.

I feel like after the hype we got, the finished product is kind of a let-down; quite frankly, after the headache of figuring out how the hell to finish the sides up (both literally and figuratively - I'm pretty hung over, but promised myself I'd finish this tonight) I copped out and didn't end up painting the windows.  In addition, like MadCat said, there are thoughts (dreams?) of a pipe organ, and personally I feel like there need to be buttresses, but I'm pretty burned out and having him help me out would void my app, so no more for now.

If someone wants to make this on a public server (neither of us can serve) and put on an open invitation to paint the windows, that would be quite welcome.

(I'll upload some images later my head hurts waay too much.)

Whoa.

This wins so much.  Thank you sir.  I laughed in awe throughout this whole video.

Any way to get this working for us?  I really really want to play this.

I'm tired of seeing church builds in the gallery. Everyone seems to be making churchs (some of satan). BL community must be really religious...

This is so true.

Every brick in this build is explodable.

Nah, almost... There are a few 8x16s and 12x24s on the floor, as well as some 1xXx5s lining parts of the main hall.  We've done a fair share of rocket DM during construction, it's actually probably better this way.

Yeah, the paths are narrow in retrospect.  :(  Once again, didn't intend for the whole thing to be this big.

It seems I can't edit my post, so I'll just say that in addition the main hall I have done on my own and, when completed, am considering to use as a USSR application.

And eventually we'll custom paint all the windows, assuming lag doesn't make it too annoying.  :p

That said, a little preview of a build a friend (MadCatmk2) and I have been cooking up via a lan.  Unfortunately we're on a university network and can't forward our ports to make a server, so here you go.

It is somewhat deconstructed and also being constructed.  This was originally meant to be a fairly simple build, possibly for a nice deathmatch, but it seems that things turned out differently.  Quite frankly the proportions are all off on most everything, both architecturally and in terms of relative scale, but the show must go on.

Nice. Reminds me of Lombard Street in San Fransisco.
