Off Topic / Building first pc - looking for advice/suggestions
« on: March 21, 2019, 09:32:28 PM »
The time has come for me to cave in to peer pressure and build my first pc. I'm finishing up my undergrad and off to grad school and I was looking to replace my laptop but thought, forget it, I'll just build a pc and run my laptop for as long as I can.

Anyways, looking to spend around $650/700. I've picked up a MSI RX580 Gaming X 8gb for $168 and ADATA XPG D10 16gb DDR4 3000 for $74. I just missed the deal on Bestbuy for the Ryzen 5 2600x for $165. I'm not sure if I should just go with 2600 or try and wait for another sale on the 2600x, any thoughts?

Suggestions for any other parts such as cases, motherboards, etc are welcome too

Off Topic / Anyone use Duolingo?
« on: June 09, 2018, 07:56:21 PM »
Just curious to see if anyone here uses/used Duolingo

Impressions? Did it help you learn the language? Did you use any additional tools to help you learn?

I have been working on the German tree for about 3 months now and I'm about 2/3rds the way through. I feel like I can read fairly well but I still struggle with grammatically forming sentences.

« on: November 09, 2017, 08:49:33 PM »
Im currently still using my Moto G3 but I really need to upgrade without spending a lot. I was wondering if anyone had the G5 plus or G5S and could tell me their opinions. The G5 Plus w 4gb ram is on sale for black friday for $225 so I was leaning towards that but I'm still gonna see what's out there.

Off Topic / Need help returning item to third party seller
« on: May 19, 2017, 10:44:28 AM »
I purchased a camera on Amazon from a third party seller, DIGITALUNIVERSE. I was in somewhat of a rush to purchase the camera and didn't look over the advertisement fully. It turns out the camera is imported or a grey market camera, which I don't want especially since it's a gift.

I buy a new US version of the same camera for roughly the same price and I request a return on the other camera. My return is accepted and they give me a shipping label. I have to pay for postage, which I don't mind, but the company says they can't issue the refund until they receive the camera.

Well, reading some of their feedback (they garner 5 star feedback by offering free stuff for 5 star reviews) it seems that a few other people have had issues with their refunds not being given even though they have shipped (and supposedly delivered) their returns.

So now I wondering what to do. I have to pay postage and I'll probably get shipping insurance, but Im wondering how can I ship the item to make sure that I can confirm the item has been received and that I get my refund. I read other stories of Amazon refusing to help out and denying claims because they couldn't confirm the item was returned.

Does anyone have experience or have suggestions for what I should do?

Off Topic / are ghosts just aliens?
« on: April 21, 2017, 01:22:56 PM »
what makes someone a ghost?

can a person just choose to be a ghost?

shouldn't there be more ghosts?

why do we rarely see ghosts?

are their aliens?

what if ghosts were just aliens who sometimes replicated human forms?

thoughts/concerns/opinions on all of this guys please and thanks

Off Topic / Annoying Orange has signed S.J. Res 34
« on: April 03, 2017, 09:27:15 PM »
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/Annoying Orange-signs-repeal-of-us-broadband-privacy-rules/ar-BBziq5Z?li=BBnb7Kz

Annoying Orange has signed the bill that would stop Obama's FCC policy that would require ISPs permission before selling your information.

How does all of this work? (To my very best understanding. Please correct me if I'm wrong)

Your ISP has had the ability to sell your information, but it's mostly data brokers that collect your information. Data brokers collect your information from other websites that will share it with them. So when you sign up for something and blindly click "I accept the terms of service" you are sometimes allowing your information that you put on that website to be shared with data brokers. But for a lot of these sites, you can opt out of some of the sharing options to help protect your information.

This on the other hand, would allow ISPs to sell your information directly to data brokers and others. So where you used to have a some say (with what websites you signed up for and what information they share) is now basically gone because your ISP can just share it anyways and it's harder to switch your ISP than it is to just avoid using a website.

While (to the best of my knowledge) ISPs have always, technically, had this power, I do not agree with ISPs and other broadband providers selling my information without my consent and I wish the new Obama FCC regulations had gone into affect.

Off Topic / Mo bounce - Iggy Azalea (134x mo bounce)
« on: March 27, 2017, 08:41:47 PM »
Thanks to youtube trending, I found a really fun song that I can't wait to listen to a million times over the next few years until it becomes a nostalgic throwback that makes me want to kill myself

This is the first song Iggy has written by herself and I really want to give credit where credit it due

Mo bounce is a song about, well, mo bounce.
Specifically, mo bounce in the motherforgetin' house

The chorus is when this really all comes together.

Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce
Bounce, bounce, bounce (to the red light)
Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce
Bounce, bounce, bounce (make your headlight)
Bounce, b-bounce, bounce, b-bounce
Bounce, b-bounce, bounce (like a low-low)
B-bounce, bounce, b-bounce (throw it up)
Bounce

For the uncultured swine, this may not make a lot of sense, but for the the cultured people, it still doesnt make a lot of sense
