Off Topic / Only God Forgives (MOVIE) speculation and discussion
« on: July 21, 2013, 03:23:39 AM »
                                                                        ONLY GOD FORGIVES

Only God Forgives is a new movie from director Nicolas Winding Refn, who directed movies such as Pusher, Bronson, Valhalla Rising, and the better known and more recent Drive. The movie itself is very graphic, dramatic, and some might say a little too art-housey. The film centers around a family in Bangkok who run a drug organization (Or have ties with one, it isn't exactly made clear in the movie) which is covered up by a boxing ring which Julian (Ryan Gosling) runs. Julian's brother, Billy (Tom Burke) is murdered after brutally raping and slaughtering a 14 year old prostitute, and so the mother of the family, Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas) comes to Bangkok to see her son. She sends her younger son to avenge her elder son's death, but once Julian learns the circumstances of Billy's death, he spares the man who killed Billy. Crystal decides to take matters into her own hands and orders a group of men to kill the police officer, Cheng (Vithaya Pansringarm) who allowed the murder of Billy to occur. The plot thickens, and circumstances change as per usual. If you're intrigued by my unintelligible explanation of the movie's plot line then maybe you should give it a little peak or watch a trailer or better yet, watch the movie, which is available for 15 dollars on iTunes or in theaters for some other price.

If you've seen Drive, and liked it then this movie may be interesting. However if you don't like cryptic and artistic movies or didn't like Drive, you may not enjoy this movie.
I would suggest if you have a netflix account, checking out Drive before seeing Only God Forgives, to get a feel for if you actually enjoy Nicolas Winding Refn's work.

(please pardon my poor topic structure, I have no excuse for it.)

Off Topic / Monoprice tablet help
« on: December 17, 2012, 05:30:47 PM »
I'm looking for some help with my new Monoprice tablet I got for my birthday. I've been finding that the driver that comes with the tablet is out of date, however I'm not sure what kind of driver I need and how I can actually get it to work.
It's this in case it helps. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?seq=1&format=2&p_id=6814&CAWELAID=1329453800&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CO7ZxcfBorQCFYuZ4AodQ3IA-g

Off Topic / Adventure Time: The Ice King's interesting back-story
« on: September 10, 2012, 05:20:58 PM »
My friend mentioned the Ice King from Adventure Time today on the bus and was talking about how he's got some crazy origin to how he became the Ice King. I looked it up and what I found was surprising even knowing how strange the show's background is. I was just wondering if anyone knew about this before hand or if anyone else likes the show at all. Here's the wiki I found this information on: http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Ice_King

Grimes is a music artist, with a high voice, and a strange urge to make odd videos that make me feel uncomfortable. I'm wondering if anyone had heard about her before hand, or just how you feel about her in general.

Oblivion (I think I maybe enjoy this one)

I still can't quite figure out whether or not I enjoy this kind of music, but I want to understand it at least.

Creativity / Constructive Criticism

I'd really like a bit of feedback on my drawings.

Not sure what this next one is exactly.

Suggestions on how to improve or what to draw would be great

Also anything with those lines or without a face isn't finished. Except the things in the beige outfits, those are like some kind of alien thing I don't know.

Let's try to be serious about this. Discuss Joseph Kony and what we should do.

Off Topic / Wondering about an old TV show
« on: February 07, 2012, 07:03:29 PM »
You guys remember Konami that was on Cartoon Network for a while right? I'm trying to remember the name of a show that was about these two guys who found a huge robot, one guy was voiced by Jack Black (I think). He was a bit chubby, always had a plaid shirt with ripped sleeves and he wore a white shirt underneath, and I think he was a car enthusiast. His buddy is a skinny guy who has a partial southern accent and he wore a black beanie and sweat-shirt. Eventually, the real owner of the robot finds them and she had red hair. I want to find this show because I remember liking the show a bit and I want to get back to watching it.

Off Topic / More technology problems.

I've been having trouble with my flat-screen recently, and I'm wondering if anyone can help. When I bring my xbox up to play on it, (I normally play in the basement on a smaller screen) I find the controls seem slightly delayed. The first time this happened was when someone brought their xbox over and he had been complaining about the delay. We were playing system link so I had assumed it was just bad connection or something. Today though, I decided to play on the TV and I found there was slight delay there as well. I'm now thinking it's the TV itself, can someone prove me wrong or explain what the problem might be?

Off Topic / "Marley's Mellow Mood": An all natural relaxing "soda"
« on: November 01, 2011, 09:00:44 PM »
I saw a can of "Marley's Mellow Mood" at my grocery store recently, and I showed my mom the drink. She looked it over out of curiosity, and found out it has Valerian Root, and Melatonin. Both of these things are natural relaxants, that are completely legal. I was just wondering if anyone had heard, and/or had one before. These things taste DELICIOUS. Right now there are two flavors, I think; Berry, and Citrus.

Off Topic / I'm having problems with my PC and a Blu-ray disc.
« on: October 29, 2011, 05:22:42 PM »
When I tried to watch "Hanna" on my computer, the PC started to rev up, and get quiet for a few minutes. The disc is Blu-ray, as I said, but I've seen a few Blu-ray movies on my computer. I haven't yet tried the disc on my TV, and I think it will work there.

It doesn't matter very much but I kind of want to watch it on my computer.

Off Topic / Mourning Bells
« on: October 17, 2011, 05:14:04 PM »
Recently I learned certain songs like "Ring around the Rosie" and "Are you sleeping Brother John" are about sicknesses and the Great Plague. :C
Example: "Ring Around the Rosie"
'Ring around the rosy, ( The Great plague of London in 1665 had symptoms of rosy red rings around the skin.)
Pocket full of posies (A belief in 1665 during the plague was that sweet smells may keep the plague from carrying, and posies were sweet smelling flowers.)
Ashes, Ashes ( To keep the plague from spreading terribly, dead bodies of plague victims were cremated.)
We all fall down.' (I'm just guessing, but I think that means we all DIE.)

There is also "Are you Sleeping?" The song was created during another sickness, (not sure which) and it depicts a young girl trying to wake her brother. The line "Mourning Bells are ringing!" also depicts mourning bells which were rung to mourn the death of someone (I think). When you think about the song it's all very sad :c.

There's many other grim and sad songs, and if you could post them with explanations to the lyrics, that would be nice. Feel free to correct me, because I'm not quite sure of the idea myself!

What's up with Facemood where Google is meant to be. It seems like it sprung up over Saturday night ( 10/15/11 )
Could someone explain this to me, even if it means pointing it out in an obnoxious, and rude way.

I was talking with Starch today and he showed me that the Sesame Street Youtube channel had four research-a-graphic videos. The channel was hacked by someone, I have no idea who it was but hopefully the problem will be handled. Starch suggested I post a topic about it because he is having problems with his key, so I did.
