Overview:
Scorched Earth is an action game created for the DOS system by Wendell Hicken, around the 90's. The whole object of the game is to destroy the enemy tanks around you. It's like that game "Tanks", but more old school. There are many different customizable options to suit your needs (you can change gravity, the graphics of the landscape, make the walls bounce bullets back or wrap-around, and MUCH more).
Playing the game:
To download the game and play it, look at the download category.
You can customize the options by clicking the different buttons to the far left of the opening screen, and select the amount of tanks and rounds you want. To start, press the "Start Game" button. Hurr.
You have three different (four if you want advanced options) things you can do with your tank: name yourself, choose the model you want, and if it's human controlled or a computer. If you choose computer, there are many different difficulties to choose for their tank, listed below:
Moron: Shoots randomly. A handicapped person on a tank.
Shooter: Shoots in one area, and slowly changes his shot to hit a target.
Poolshark: Uses wrap-around and bouncy walls to his cheap advantage.
Chooser: Chooses a target and sticks with it.
Tosser: Makes high, lobbing shots.
Spoiler: Steals kills. If this game was multiplayer, he would be the troll in the game.
Cyborg: God for Scorched. He hits almost every single time he shoots.
Unknown: Chooses a random difficulty.
There are two things you can change to determine where your shot lands: power, and angle. Power is how forcefully the shot is executed, angle is where you shoot it, anglewise. (I think the angle is determined in mathematical angles, so if you want good hits, find a protractor.) Another thing to take into account is the wind, on the top right corner of the screen. Wind can push your shot around the screen, sometimes right back at you if you don't look carefully. You can change the options to have no wind, which is recommended if you have never played tank games before.
Weaponry and miscellaneous objects:
Determined on how many kills you got last round (or if you gave yourself 1 million dollars, you dirty cheater) you can buy more advanced weaponry and shields from the money you gained by kills. Baby Missles are effective and infinite, but you can choose from a variety of weapons from Normal Missles, to the extreme power of the Death's Head. I will give a description on the weapons
if you ask.
There are three different kinds of weapons: Earth Removing, Earth Adding, and normal weaponry.
Earth removing weapons, like the Riot Charge or the Sandhog, remove the land around you. The reason? To make tanks high up on mountains fall to their doom.
Earth Adding weapons, like the Ton of Dirt, make land determined on your shot. Reason? To protect yourself and give yourself time to make a more accurate shot.
Normal Weaponry, like the Miss- You get it. They go boom and tanks explode. A subcategory, energy weapons, is provided here. Only two (Laser and plasma blast) are run on batteries, cheap items used to supply power to these weapons. Lasers fire a straight shot where your angle is located. The neat thing about lasers is that wind cannot affect it. Plasma blasts are like nukes, they make a big red circle and remove land around you, simulating an explosion. Determined on how many batteries you chose, the plasma blast can be small, to really loving big. Just add batteries.
There are also tracers that don't really fit into a category. They suck.
Protective items:
Shield- a basic shield. Takes about 10 hits from baby missles to remove.
Mag Shield- A shield that bounces projectiles off of itself. Pretty pricey, if you suck at tank games.
Heavy Shield- Strong shield. Maybe... 20 hits from baby missles to remove?
Lots more protective and not real useful items. Again, i'll make a list if you ask.
Summary: Start a game with cool options, kill tanks, get money, buy weapons, blow up more tanks, buy more etc.
