Why do all the cool kids have to call it this? Isn't it just Techno?

I've heard many people just call it dubstep without even knowing dubstep is just a form of techno.

I can understand calling it dubstep since it's a big category but EDM just seems to mean Techno except it's a new name.

Techno sounds way cooler to me. I thought it was a subgenre of EDM, though.
