Creativity / Railyx's music etc. ("Good Time" remix finished!)
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:38:47 AM »
because making a thread about your music seems to be mainstream these days.

so I've been making music with a computer since around the beginning of January, but I've been a musician since I was about seven or eight, playing the piano and taking lessons all those years. I know a lot about music theory and music history and music is essentially my life.

anyway, I always upload my songs to SoundCloud (and sometimes to Dropbox), and you can find my SoundCloud page right here.

most recent stuff:

[Electro] ???

[Electro House] Owl City - Good Time (feat. Carly Rae Jepsen) (Railyx Remix)

[Electro] Railyx - Black Aura (WIP #1)

[Chillstep] OneRepublic - Apologize (Railyx Remix)

[Electrohouse] Deadmau5 & Armin Van Buuren - ID (Railyx Remix)

[Moombahton] Portal 2 - Reconstructing Science (Railyx & Kingdaro VIP) [WIP #2]

[Chillstep] OneRepublic - Apologize (Railyx Chillstep Remix)

[Electro] Railyx - Blastwave

currently working on:

[Electro] Railyx - Black Aura (10%)

[Electrohouse] Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen - Good Time (Railyx Remix) (progress: completed)

[Electrohouse] Deadmau5 & Armin Van Buuren - ID (Railyx Remix) (progress: 10%)

additionally, one of my friends and I have an electronic duo; we go by the name of "Luminox" (not to be confused with the watch-making company). you can listen to our first song over here on SoundCloud.

and before any of you ask, I use FL Studio 10 Producer Edition. and yes, I did actually buy the software.

Off Topic / What would your name look like in Pig Latin?
« on: April 16, 2012, 03:04:31 PM »
Simple, just post what your name would look like in Pig Latin. For those who aren't aware of how Pig Latin works, just take the first letter of your name and place it at the end, then add "ay."

For example, mine would be "Aeyokray."

Post yours. I can already think of a few that would look pretty funny.

Creativity / Vocal cover of "I Can Barely Say" by The Fray
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:47:08 PM »
so I was really damn bored.

there are no instruments, it's just my voice, hence "vocal cover." I would've added an instrumental track if I could've found a version of the song that didn't contain the vocals.

I recorded this while singing along to the actual song (which is here, by the way, in case you want a reference), so there will be long pauses in between a couple of the verses.

anyway, here you go. constructive criticism is most welcome and most appreciated. I know it's not perfect, I definitely messed up on a few parts. Hell, it's far from perfect, but I don't think it's that bad...

Report: Invisible Children co-founder detained by police; charity made 'KONY 2012' video

Quote
By NBC News and msnbc.com staff
SAN DIEGO – A co-founder of Invisible Children, the group behind the “KONY 2012” video on alleged atrocities by an African warlord, was detained after a witness reported a man masturbating and acting strangely, NBCSanDiego.com reported.

Russell is one of the the founders responsible for the "KONY 2012" video that went viral last week. He is described on the organization's website as a co-founder and "our grand storyteller and dreamer." Russell is also described as a Christian and father to two children who wants to have nine more children with his wife he calls his "best friend for over 23 years."
The video of alleged child atrocities by Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony has been viewed more than 100 million times on the Internet.

Off Topic / Livestreaming my high school's musical
« on: March 09, 2012, 10:28:39 PM »
My high school's theatre company is performing Beauty and the Beast and I'm livestreaming it because I can and because I feel like it. Feel free to come watch. Act II started a few minutes ago. I'm the tech chief and I'm livestreaming this from the tech booth.

23
So yeah I'm keeping my promise to make one of these because we definitely need one.

Since we don't really have any one thread with a stuffload of really funny/idiotic posts, suggest threads from which I should get comments of which to take screenshots and put in the video.

I'll put up a poll after at least ten more threads are suggested and then you guys can vote for which ones to include. I will be adding up to five more threads to the aforementioned list. Poll has ended, thanks for voting!

Also feel free to suggest individual posts; in fact, that would be more helpful than entire threads, but I don't want you guys to do all the work.

Off Topic / I Fight Dragons - really awesome alternative rock band
« on: December 20, 2011, 03:19:58 AM »
I listen to electronic music almost all the time, but when one of my friends told me to check out I Fight Dragons, I was interested. I'm glad I did, because they're loving awesome, in my opinion.

Rather than trying to explain their awesomeness in my own words, I'll just grab an excellent quote from a review on iTunes of their album "Kaboom!":

Quote from: dezekerel
I have been listening to this band for a while and all I can say is they are one of the best out there. This will definitely come close to being album of the year. Hopefully. It's 90% better than all music out there right now. I say 90% because bands like the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Mumford and Sons are still out there, but this band comes close to the likes of Green Day which is no bad thing at all. In fact I might even say they are better. They are so unique and different. Mixing Power-Pop, Punk Rock, an Chiptune all into one is just amazing.

Go give some of their songs a listen over at the iTunes page for "Kaboom!". Rock and alternative fans, you will not be disappointed.

Off Topic / My eyes do this weird thing to me sometimes
« on: December 01, 2011, 02:39:29 AM »
Such as right now, I'm just typing this post and my eyes are doing this really goddamn weird thing where it feels like the computer screen is really, really small, and farther away from me than it actually is. The text on the screen also looks much smaller than I know it is.

Does this ever happen to anyone else? I want to know if I should be concerned or not. I have excellent vision, so it's not like I'm losing sight or anything. Maybe it's just eye strain, I don't know.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owl_City
Owl City is an American electronica musical project by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young formed in 2007 in Owatonna, Minnesota. Young created the project while experimenting with music in his parents' basement. Like many musicians who achieved success in the era between 2005 and 2009, Owl City developed a following on the music and social networking site Myspace in the late 2000s before signing with Universal Republic in 2008.

After two independent releases, Owl City gained mainstream popularity with the 2009 major label debut album Ocean Eyes, which spawned the quadruple-platinum hit single "Fireflies". The album was certified Platinum in the United States in April 2010.

In 2011, Owl City released its third album entitled All Things Bright and Beautiful.

Some YouTube videos of his music:

Vanilla Twilight (my personal favorite)
Meteor Shower
The Tip of the Iceberg
Rainbow Veins (another favorite)
Hello Seattle (Remix) (yet another favorite, some loving beautiful piano here)

Andy Rooney
January 14, 1919 - November 4, 2011

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Rooney
Rooney was hospitalized on October 25, 2011, after developing postoperative complications from an undisclosed surgery, and died on November 4, 2011, at the age of 92, three weeks after his last appearance on 60 Minutes.

I was very sad to hear this. I always liked watching Rooney on his 60 Minutes segment, he said some pretty funny things.
