Off Topic / Any computers for less than 400 dollars?
« on: October 04, 2011, 05:12:17 PM »
My parents agreed to pay for a 300 dollar computer - I can get a 400 dollar one if I spend my 100 dollars towards it.

My preferences:
AMD Phenom x4
Windows 7 home 64 bit
4 GB of ram
Prebuilt (But me building one is fine, I just don't want to forget up)

There is no need for a graphics card.

Off Topic / My sister is so ignorant
« on: October 02, 2011, 12:42:51 PM »
Semi-sequel to this topic.

So, today I was eating breakfast at 11:30 A.M., and my sister starts talking about my mom's boyfriend. So after she a few minutes of talking, she blurts out, "Boys are so useless, all they ever do is sit on the couch and eat doritos." to my mother. This seriously offended me, and I called her on it. She turned to me, gave me an angry look, and said more loveist slander such as, "It's true! All boys are fat and ugly and they do nothing all day!" I told her to stop being so loveist and she said, "DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!"

Even now she is in the kitchen talking to my mom about how stupid boys are. She is an 11 year old girl in 6th grade that just barely gets by. All SHE does is sit on the couch and watch TV, and she drinks soda and eats food all day and leaves bags of chips for my mother and I to clean up. For an example, in one week she watched 78 episodes of some crappy mermaid show on Netflix, and when she finishes her shows she watches SpongBob for the rest of the day, and she never, ever goes outside or does something productive. Her bicycle actually has cobwebs on it. The last time she got some excersize was when I forced her to go on the trampoline this morning, but she was on there for five minutes then she went inside to watch TV and eat some more.

She calls me a lazy kid, yet I am in Honors classes with straight A's, along with great friends and a social life.

Off Topic / Civilization 5 party anyone?
« on: September 10, 2011, 09:09:13 AM »
Sometime tonight we need to get together and have a match with like, 12 people (maybe higher) and play a game of civilization. No AI, just human players.

-Who wants to host? I can host, but then again, maybe not.
-What speed should the game be?
-Should we have a cease fire in the beginning?
-What other settings would you like?

Who wants to come?
ONLY IF YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO COME, AND WILL.

EDIT: Wrong section, sorry.

Forum Games / Cheyenne Island - The Melting
« on: September 04, 2011, 11:27:08 PM »
The Story

The year was 1968. In an alternate history setting, the U.S. was under communist reform after the national socialists captured it (Where Strovbe's adventure ties in :D), but couldn't sustain it for long, leaving it in a state of anarchy for  5 years or so. All was going well, people were making money again, the economy started to patch itself up under the new communist leaders. But, after two years, radical terrorists launched several nuclear missiles at the ice caps. It is not known what country did it, but it is known that  the world is changed for ever. Sea levels rose hundreds of feet. Thousands of feet. Until the world was a watery globe. One city, however, survived such apocalypse, and even thrived in it! It is now home to almost 40,000 people, it is what is left of Cheyenne, Wyoming. After the melting, there was a great famine in the city and over 20,000 people died. Over time the people learned how to build boats, fished from the single ocean that covered most of the globe, and they built several communities around Cheyenne. The year now is 2008, and under the new name of Cheyenne Island, several people have joined together to create a very corrupt totalitarian government, crime is a way of life, and the city is crumbling from lack of maintenence. There are several communities, each with their own background, some of them built their economies on drugs, crime, manufacturing, whatever. Vehicles are starting to become scarce, but there is a train that runs along the main roads, for the the price of whatever the train operator wants from you. The military depot that was located in Cheyenne has been raided since then, so several thousand guns are floating around the city, which further endangers (yet protects) the people of Cheyenne Island.

The Map

The lighter the green for the land, the higher the elevation.
The black is the interstate, one of the most trafficked roads on Cheyenne Island.
The gray are main roads traveled on to get to other cities, and adjacent to the gray is the railroad track, where a dilapidated train makes it's rounds.
The yellow is smaller communities that are not worth mentioning, with smaller than 1,000 people.

Dark Blue/Mulholland: The most populated (roughly 10,000 people) of the major cities of Cheyenne Island, it is where The Government is situated, and most of it is still being held together by large chunks of metal. There are apartments, factories, gang hideouts, and the corrupt police station located in this section of Cheyenne Island. The city is named "Mulholland" after the road in Los Angeles.

Orange/Teal Harbor: There is an airport here, of little use to people now, but it is a major source for aluminum and metal. There is a boat manufacturing building here, and it is where the boats are cast off to sea via the harbor that was located here. There are several drug labs located in this city. Population is about 4,000.

Pink/Heartland It is called heartland because it is a land-locked city, fairly dense with about 6,000 people living in it, it has a respectful community and is somewhat quiet compared to the other major cities, and it's high elevation wards off  raiders looking for items or people to kill. The highest elevations out of all of the other cities. This is where the train is serviced, and parts manufactured. You can catch a ride on the train really cheap here.

Red/New Cheyenne About 8,000 people here. The scum of Cheyenne Island. Everyday there are gang fights or someone dies. The drug cartels that live in this city pay The Government to turn a blind eye to their actions. There is always war over turf in this city, and the only reason people live in this city is to get rich quick off of drugs, or some are forced to live here.

Yes, I know not everything is accurate about Cheyenne. Whatever.

Off Topic / Microsoft Office is HOW MUCH?!
« on: August 31, 2011, 04:22:57 PM »
So I have to use Microsoft Word for a report due on Tuesday, September 6.

I do not have it, so I simply decided I would buy it, thinking it was 30 bucks or something.

I go onto the website, 300 dollars.

300 dollars for a word processor.

Thank god they have a trial. That won't last me long, though. Is there any microsooft office abandonware out there?

Off Topic / Jesus christ these new youtube ads are annoying
« on: August 15, 2011, 02:26:05 PM »
I'll be watching a video, and suddenly, I hear, "STAIN GONE, THE STAIN IS GONE!" or something from a tide ad, or annoying as hell music from some Pantene commercial while I am trying to focus on the video. It is really annoying because it happens like, every 3 minutes. Even if you pause it, soon enough the ad will reset itself, and sometimes I accidentally click on the ad when trying to mute it or pause it.

Solution: Use Mozilla firefox's adblock.

But, damnit, youtube, why do you have to stoop so low as to using these scam advertisements, and the sound advertisements.

Games / Fallout Series - Megathread
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:12:36 PM »

I know this is a pitiful megathread at the moment, but I will make it better depending on if it takes off or not.

What is Fallout?
Fallout is a game based in retrofuturistic, post-nuclear America. It has RPG elements, and the newer games are FPSRPGs. A few companies have made the fallout series, such as Interplay,(Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, and Brotherhood of Steel.) Bethesda, (Fallout 3) and Obsidian Entertainment (New Vegas)

Fallout also has a unique karma system where it rates you based on the evil or good things you do. The more good things you do, the higher your karma, ultimately making you a better person. The more bad things you do (Killing innocent people, etc) will lower your karma, and rate you Evil. There are several different perks, such as guns, lockpick, Science, Medicine, and a lot more, which can give you great advantages in-game. There is also the SPECIAL system, Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck, which all can greatly influence gameplay.

Media

Ideas for the next games. (My favorites will go here)
Personally, I think Anchorage would be cool. There would be a lot of Chinese stuff and such.

I would hate New York City. You know how rubble blocked the streets in D.C. and you had to go through the metro stations? NYC would be that times 20 because of the dense buildings. Except I would imagine Manhattan would be leveled, if not, you will be doing more maze-solving then role-playing.

Though, Brooklyn and Queens would be cool, it would be a nice idea if somehow the wastelanders repaired the Long Island Railroad back into working order, and you can travel from Eastern Long Island to Western Long Island and vice versa via train.

SO, what are your ideas for the next fallout game?

1. Is 43 degrees celcius too hot for a hard drive? Because that's what mine was at.

2. My motherboard has a BIOS called Pheonix, and the chipset Intel Lakeport 1945G. I run an intel Pentium D. Will this support an Intel Core 2 Quad?

3. Can I upgrade the power supply if my motherboard is a BTX form factor?

Off Topic / Damn Highschool schedule
« on: August 02, 2011, 12:12:29 AM »
For some reason, I didn't get to choose what I wanted to do as my classes (AP American History, AP Algebra, Honors English, etc.) for the 24 credits I need. They have me down to earn 4.5 credits. forget.

Does this mean I will not reach my required 24 to graduate? Or will I have to take some intensive as forget courses to gain the two extra credits? Or can I just add two courses on a year or two?

It's dumb as hell because they put me in TWO different weight training things. WHY would I need that?
