go ahead. you're new and needa save up, im just saying go with another board if you have the cash.

Alright, will it really be that bad to buy from Zumiez though? All the other skateshops are down in Minneapolis, not sure if I want to go that far. Plus, my friend is telling me that local shops generally charge more than Zumiez because they are local.

I'd say Visage and Skate are the only guys that actually gave me advice. They've given me advice from both ends of the spectrum, and now I'm confused of whether to get a blank deck or not. Not trying to be mooching you guys, but could you just pretty much link me to everything I'll need except the deck & shoes?

Everything skateaton said is like horrible advice. He's one of those kids that spends 8 hours a day reading and talking about skateboarding and 20 minutes a week actually doing it.

stick with blank board/grip tape/wheels trust me you will never notice any difference in the slightest. Back when I skated bones were the best bearings specifically bones swiss but go ahead and get any abec 5s of good quality ask the guy there hopefully he knows(local skate shops are usually run by people they sponsor that are extremely good so should know)

board size is based entirely on preference shoe size really has no difference. I knew a guy that was a pro that worked at the skate shop by my house and he was a 6'8 black guy with size 15 shoes and he used a 7.5 board because he was an extremely technical rider and gave up ease of use for easier flipping. I myself was a heshan style rider doing big stairs and big drops and actually rode a 10" board for more durability and easier landing on it. When you go in to get a board you really need to feel them out and decide on a good starting area. Since you said you just want to ride around with it and do a few tricks I'd highly recommend 8.5-9.

Also those old school vans are probably the worst possible shoes you can ever skate with in your life.

Don't worry about the deck and wheels, I'll be sure to get those cheaper. It's just trucks and bearings that I'm still not so sure of. Would Nike's be good then? Or do you have a link to some specific brand of shoe?

If they're skateboarding specific models, yes, perfect. If they're just your average vans, well, yes and no. they will for two days (with mob, 1 day) they're flimsy pieces of stuff compared to their skateboarding models

Skateboarding is overrated.

Fak u.

Skate you're being too helpful haha, thanks bro. I'll write this stuff down and bring it to a skate shop eventually. I have some Vans, would those work for skating? :o

The grip tape always came with the board when I went and they never had different options of grip tape besides color which it was the same price regardless of color. And a deck would only last me a few months but when I used to skate it was like a religious 12 hours a day type deal I've seen casual skaters with 1 year old boards that look brand new. I always wore off the tail completely within a month.

Ah I see. As of now, I'm not sure how long I'll be skating a day, depends on how I like it haha. But seriously, I was just staying up all night watching documentaries of skating on netflix and researching all day today. I wanna start shredding soon haha. So pretty much just get the cheapest board at a skate shop, cheapest wheels, but look for good trucks & bearings?

Umm I don't remember since I only bought like 2 pairs of trucks in my life I always rode them til they completely snapped which isn't easy to do on good trucks. Basically what you want to do is get the cheapest deck you can get and cheapest wheels you can get(skateshop quality of course dont go to wal-mart) and get some mid-grade bearrings and then whatever is left in your budget in the best trucks you can get for that cost. Trucks are a good investment like I said because they can last so incredibly long while bearings wheels and boards last a hardcore skater like a month to 2 months trucks will last you at least a year.

So the deck will only last a few months? :/ What about grip tape?

if zumiez has blank decks get a blank, they are cheaper and sacrifice no quality. Also just get blank wheels wheels also don't really sacrifice quality(the only thing sometimes worth getting is the wheels with the plastic rings to prevent busting bearings but not really needed). Where you really want to splurge if you can is trucks and get some decent abec 5 maybe abec 7 bearrings. But the biggest thing I will say again is the trucks, the weight of the trucks will affect the board a lot and they last much longer than the other parts I've had pairs of trucks last me 3-5 years so you want light sturdy trucks which shouldn't come cheap. Last time I bought a board I think blank boards were $25-$30 while graphic boards were $50-$80 and blank store brand wheels were $15 while the name brands were $25-35 so going that route you will save a pretty penny and sacrifice no quality.

Alright cool man, thanks. I can always just put stickers and stuff on there. How much should I be spending on trucks though?

I found a website dedicated to skateboarding in minnesota.
http://www.mnskateboarder.com/directory.php
I hope you mean actual streetboard and not a loving longboard, if its a longboard then im done helping you.

A few things else to help you.

Shoe size?
Do you want your skateboard to grip onto concrete or slide more?
What kind of skateboarding do you wanna do?
Are you also going to use it for transportation?
Do you mind the sound of rolling wheels?

I considered a longboard a few months ago, but after my friend got one it's kind of meh. I wear a size 10 shoe, I plan on just cruising and doing tricks, and nah I don't care about the wheel sound much.

the ironic thing is that you love brands like Diamond Supply Co, and Supra, which sponsors skateboarders.

also, forget. THE. MALL.
support your local shop. Why?
The mall store is run by non skaters who just need a job, and they are no help. I was in a zumiez and i, i, ME, I HAD TO GO TO THE loving COUNTER TO SET UP ANOTHER KIDS BOARD BECAUSE THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW.

I could help you further with these links:

www.ccs.com
www.warehouseskateboards.com

OP, where do you live? City and state, that could help me locate a shop too.

Haha, that's pretty embarassing of Zumiez. I live in Bloomington, MN, I went to the Mall of America.

Alright, I want to start Skateboarding. I went to a bunch of stores at the mall today, and I want to know what I should be looking for in a board? At zumiez, they have it like. $120 to build a board with a $50 deck, and I want to know if I will be getting any less quality in a board if I only pay like, $80-. Pretty much, what should I be looking for in a skateboard, and what is a good reasonable price to spend on a first board?

Ahh, when you guys suggest Dark Souls I love it but when I hear everywhere else it's like buying Self Delete in a box.

neff backpacks > everything.

But yeah, start with Infamous, infamous 2 sort of doesn't make sense without playing infamous 1.

I had this backpack for a while before I sold it to my friend, lol.

Unless you know of a cooler Neff backpack. And yeah man, I might borrow inFamous 1 from a friend to beat before I decide to buy the 2nd one.
