Modification Help / Print Tags (Large Image)
« on: September 25, 2017, 08:25:21 PM »

These are (almost all) of the tags used for event prints and messages in Blockland. I don't have an on-hand reference that I can refer to when doing eventing, so I'm posting this topic.

I hope other people can find use for it, too.

Link for the uninitiated

I liked messing around with spongebob audio in audacity as practice for sound design and I ended up with a tiny playlist of spongebob clips. I posted a topic because the playlist had 58 videos and I thought somebody might get a kick outta it.

Now it has 1,200 videos and the playlist has about 850,000 individual views. Just sharing it again because I know people will enjoy it. I tried to keep unedited videos out as much as possible, but there may be a couple edited ones.

Games / Dungeons & Dragons Megathread

Dungeons & Dragons?
Adventurers beware!

"The first Dungeons & Dragons game was played back when Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson chose to personalize the massive battles of their fantasy wargames with the exploits of individual heroes. This inspiration became the first fantasy roleplaying game, in which players are characters in an ongoing fantasy story. This new kind of game has become popular over the years, and D&D has grown to include many new ways to experience worlds of heroic fantasy.

The core of D&D is storytelling. You and your friends tell a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and much more. You can also explore the world of Dungeons & Dragons through any of the novels written by its fantasy authors, as well as engaging board games and immersive video games. All of these stories are part of D&D."

Q&A

"Is D&D free?"
There's plenty of free, online resources like the 5etools, or the Pathfinder OGC.

"Where do I start?"
Check out Geek & Sundry's "Critical Role" for inspiration. Campaigns are hard to get up and going due to the varying amount of creativity it requires. Read the 5e SRD and make an account on roll20, then gather together your friends. You'll be able to do something fun without that much effort!

Is being a Dungeon Master (DM) hard?
It requires a fair bit of management and creative thinking, but it's about as hard as you make it. Managing a hack & slash dungeon crawling campaign is a very simple and easy place to start.

Where do I find players?
From personal experience, as a new DM you want to run a campaign most likely with a new party. Gather your friends who have never played D&D into a party and run something, you'll all learn from each other.

How do I get good at telling a story?
You could browse tvtropes some and familiarize yourself with fiction tropes. Watch other people run campaigns, take note of how information is presented. Look into various homebrewed D&D modules and figure out how other people designed settings & campaigns.
