Off Topic / Need some help - CAKE DESIGN.
« on: May 24, 2011, 04:51:46 PM »
So my birthday is creeping up around the corner, and I have the job of making my own birthday cake this year.

That means that I can make my OWN birthday cake.

I'm going to make the most chocolatey cake possible. I MEAN AS CHOCOLATEY AS POSSIBLE.

Which comes to what I need help with:
So far I've come up with:

Fudge icing
Chocolate chips in caramel cake mix
Chocolate icecream as bottom layer of double-decker cake
Fudge Brownie crust
Chocolate sprinkles
Frozen slightly-cooked chocolate chip cookie dough balls in icing
Chocolate-covered strawberries on top
Chocolate-creme edge icing

Edit: Ruled out;
Dead babies
Hookers

Games / RPG Dilema: Designing the best items in early development.
« on: May 24, 2011, 01:23:53 PM »
Let's say you're a game designer making an MMORPG. The game just entered it's first stages of stable play.

You've introduced "Mega awesome obsidium gear", the best armor you can think of. But by doing this, you may have screwed up the game indefinitely. Why? You made the endgame items accessible before you actually have content between starting and getting all the good stuff.

This is a major problem. Let's now say that you want to put 40% more content into the game, and it takes you two months to do this. In those two months, the people who played the early-developed game will already be at endgame, giving them an unfair advantage. Once the game is finished, the hardest-to-get item will be in possesion of everyone who started playing the game earlier than anyone else.

This is unfair to the later players. This is a huge problem for independent developers, because it breaks the game. Why even play the game if you can just log online and buy the endgame gear since everyone already had it before the game became hard.

So this is one thing to look out for, don't make the highest leveled armor first.

Off Topic / THE WHOLE UNIVERSE: The scariest thing imagineable.
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:30:32 AM »

What my worst fear is - The end of the universe. Imagine the fact that eventually, there will be nothing forever.

And the worst part is that this could happen any day. Why is it scary? The sheer fact that it would happen and nothing would exist.

If everything disappeared suddenly, everything we've done would be worth no effort. Eventually, our whole dimension will die out, and there will be nothing there. EVER. This is scary because once everything is gone, nothing will come back.

Something cannot come out of nothing.

Now here's a concept to think about; what would happen if you were immortal? Eventually you will be stuck forever drifting through space. Why? Because if nothing can kill you, the end of time would eventually come right before your eyes, and you could do nothing to stop it.

It's said that as you grow older, time passes quicker in your mind, or whatnot.

This means that by the third century of your consciousness, time will be passing by as years would be seconds.

So being immortal would be bad.

Now then, discuss your thoughts on how scary the end of time is.

Drama / Iban ~ Or why I don't like him.
« on: May 16, 2011, 11:15:25 AM »
Iban is one of the older members of the Blockland Forums. According to him, he's the stuff.

Why? Because obviously he's got two cents for everybody.

But why is there such a problem? He usually goes against his 'two cents' on a regular basis.

This is a thirty-page thread with Iban and stocking fighting with each other for the dumbest of reasons. This will possibly never end because Iban is an immature brat who's never going to grow up.

He's already stated that he's eighteen, but he still acts like a kid. Why is this? Because he doesn't see any issue with himself, and obliviously continues with his destructive behavior.

Did you see that every post of his inside of every drama topic he has made or contributed to contains two or more paragraphs?

Did you know that half of them are biased or complete bullstuff? Not everybody wants to believe this because he's one of the "older members". No matter who they are, they have to be respected or they leave.

Why? Because for some odd reason we have to "preserve" the forums. Nobody wants to say good-bye to the starfishs that made up the minority of the population of users back in 2008 and 2007.

So because everyone loves the forums, nobody cares to point out what the forget is wrong with Iban. Let's make a list:

-He's a hypocrite
-He's a sore loser
-He thinks he's always right
-He's oblivious to his behavior

Near the end of the thread between him and Stocking, he says he reminds me of a 21-year-old virgin he knows. While it's kind of stupid relating a loser virgin to a loser kid, he then says he "Still really likes me" and that he only insulted me because he was mad.

He's trying his best to keep people liking him. He actually has no idea why he's half-respected. If confronted with the reason why, he would most likely reject it.

This is called granted ego. Getting a big head because somebody likes you, or that somebody said something nice about something you did or said. Everyone does it.

So I'm not saying it's our fault Iban is a jerk, I'm saying that you shouldn't blindly compliment him and stick up for him just because he used to be here back then. Hadn't you realized that 'every old user' is getting banned? Half of the people still here from those times are starfishs, no? Only a few of the are decent people.

So unless Iban comes to realization that he's a jerkass and that everyone likes him because he's an older member, he's going to be banned again and he'll come back again, rinse and repeat. Unless he mans the forget up and faces his self-issues, he's going to continue to be broken and loved for the wrong reasons.

It may be the internet, but it still reflects upon you no matter how unimpressionable you are.

So now let's point out CONSTRUCTIVELY what's wrong with him:
-He needs to realize why everyone likes him.
-He need to come to terms why those who don't hate him with a passion.
-He needs to heed his own advice or stop giving advice at all.
-He needs to calm himself, need not another permanent ban and yet another alt, does he?

He's still a person, though. He doesn't need to change, he doesn't need to re-arrange his personality, he just needs to listen and not speak when it's least needed.

I know I have half a mile to speak about this topic, but if he gets banned again, it's only going to make things worse.

Gallery / (WIP 26.4% done) Untitled DM
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:52:54 AM »
Untitled DM has been worked on for awhile by me. Every time I feel like it, I get on blockland and make some more of it. It's quite bland, but it's hardly even done. I'm going to make it GIGANTIC.

Here's some current pictures of it.

The way to get weapons is to click on these brown-topped boxes, it flashes and plays a sound and out pops your weapon.

I think this will be great, and once released, ANYONE could use it.

Off Topic / My grandma and seeing her again.
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:31:56 AM »
Let me tell you of my youth. Back when I was six, my grandma and grandpa had this GIGANTIC house which was SOOOO cool. Also not to mention that they still had some of the oldest consoles in ALL OF TIME.

I played on the SNES, I invited my little friends over to play around in the house and whatnot...

and my grandma always got me and my friends candy seems how when you're young candy = everything.

But when I was eight, my mom and my grandma had a horrible dispute and my family moved farther away from my grandma's house. I haven't seen her until yesterday, when I was with my dad in his truck driving back from DQ, my dad saw my grandma and decided to go say hi.

My grandma saw that I evolved from a short, chubby kid to a tall, thin adolescent.

And she cried. I haven't seen her since I was eight, that's SIX whole years. She told my dad that they couldn't afford to keep their big house because my grandpa lost his job. They had to move, and they figured out that there was a house for sale close to my family.

And she also told me that my grandpa had a benign tumor and that he's all right. She's going to stop by our house today. I don't know how my mom is going to react.

I just haven't seen her in years. She's my only grandmother.

The question is this; are we smart enough to perfect space travel?

The simplest answer is no. Unless we find billions and trillions of dollars out of nowhere, I hate to say that you will never see space hotels in your lifetime. Maybe by 2304 they will start somewhere, but that's a blind guess.

Although, that's just my opinion. I have no idea how space travel could work. I'm only fourteen.

So, I wanted to know if you could come up with a better idea on if humans could perfect space travel.

Drama / Karfitter and Eyeban - The bitter fight that NEVER ENDS
« on: May 13, 2011, 10:24:58 AM »
Oh my jesus these two are very annoying people.

Let's recap on who Iban and Kalfitare are.

Iban is a self-important badmouthing jerk who thinks his opinion is above everyone else's (it's not?) and he likes to be a
loving HYPOCRITE. Of course all the insults I'm going to use is based on what everyone else has said about both of them.

so basically he's like this
Iban: "[dramatopic/] WOW GUYS YOUR RED HATS ARE SO loving GAY"
Some guys: "MAYBE IF YOU STOPPED BEING SO STUPID YOU WOULD REALIZE YOU WERE loving GAY INSTEAD OF THE HATS"
Iban: "[someothertopic/] WOW GUYS CHECK OUT MY COOL RED HAT"

Kalpootface is a script kiddy jerkoff that thinks that he has to be the king of the internet. Hence why he made the loving stupid server hosting stuff. Almost everything he says relates to his abusive family because in reality he's a broken heart.
Oh yeah and he's also very dumb and stupid and he is sooo gay

so he's like this:
Kapither: "LOOK AT THIS COOL SOFTWARE I MADE!!"
Everyone but some people who are cool: "OH MY JESUS HAVE MY BABIES"
Some guys who are against popular opinion: "HUH IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE ATTENTION WHORING AGAIN"
Kakapar: "Woah I mean WOAH, TAKE A STEP BACK MOTHER forgetER"
Ephialtes: "Hey kalphiter, looks like you did something wrong again"
Karpahto: "NO I DIDN'T HERE'S SOME EVIDENCE

And they had a bitter fight that would end all fights...

Nah they just called each other names and kept trying to use their own words against them.
And it NEVER STOPPED. EVER.

So why would I have an issue with this? Beacuase my life is not under control and I have to vent into this forum because I'm too much of a loser to talk to people in real life!

srsly just go look at my face I'm a loving loser

But enough about me.

Discuss these two buttbuddies and how they should stop being little women.

This is a pretty good rolling website.

Five warriors from an ancient time set out for treasure. Each one of these warriors are skilled with different weapons and many tactics.

Each of the ten will be controlled by the player rightfully deemed to play as them. If the player doesn't show signs of playing further, somebody can take over for them. Once a character is in use, nobody else can play as them.

Power: 6
Endurance: 6
Dexterity: 12
Intelligence: 5
Magic: 12
Greed: 7
Tanking: 5
Health: 26
Moves: Posion, Sap and Turn Enemy.

The specialty stat of each character is +2 to the stat.

Strength - How much damage you do. 3 points = 1 damage. Your strength plus your level is how much your damage base is.
Power - How much health you have. 16 points of health each time you spend a point into it.
Endurance - How much health is taken away from an attack. 4 less damage from attacks each 3 point into it.
Dexterity - How fast you move across the map. Each point into it is 1 extra space forward.
Intelligence - How much magic damage you do. 3 points = 1 damage. Same as strength.
Magic - How much mana you have. 1 every 3 points Same as power.
Greed - How much money you make from killing things. 20+ gold each kill.
Tanking - How much defense you get from armor. 10 defense every point.

You start out with 5 of each stat plus specialty stat.

You start out with 10 points to spend into each stat.

Leveling up gives you another 5 points to spend.

Killing enemies gives a certain amount of EXP to level.

When on the map, rolling is how many spaces you can move by half of what you roll.
1 is don't move.
2 is one move
3 is one move
4 is two moves
5 is two moves
6 is three moves.
You move individually.

When everyone's turn is up, I roll for random encounters for each person.

When you reach a town, you can recruit.

You can recruit any current class the town offers. Recruits act like you have a second character, and they level up and die just like you. If you die with a recruit, your main character WILL be the recruit.

When buying/selling, rolling differs how much money is taken away or given to you. The percentage is based off of how much gold you are holding.
1 is 0% change
2 is 15% change
3 is 19% change
4 is 24% change
5 is 19% change
6 is 15% change

During combat, rolling is used for attacking during your turn. First you have to pick which command you're doing. "Attack", "Defend", "Use item", "Run" or "Spell"
Here's what rolling affects.

Combat is how much damage you do. When your turn is up, I roll as the enemies and what they get determines how much damage they do to you. When it's the enemy's turn, if they miss the ranger gets a chance to fire an always-critical hit.

1 is 1x your current damage
2 is miss
3 is 2x your current damage
4 is 2x your current damage
5 is miss
6 is 3x your current damage. This is a critical.

With defending, you take generally less damage from enemy attacks. Same goes for your enemies. Unless you chose a different action, every time it is your turn you defend.
1 is 5 less health taken away
2 is 9
3 is none
4 is 24
5 is none
6 is the enemy misses you

You can only hold fifteen items excluding your equipment. When you use an item in combat, it can be to heal or to do damage. When using a healing or poison item, you roll for how much health it deals/gives.
1 is 5 health
2 is 16 health
3 is misfire and you lose the item forever
4 is 24 health
5 is 30 health
6 is 5 health and the item doesn't disappear.

Running is difficult. If you run, you leave combat and you leave your other team-members to fight. Useful if you don't want to die.
1 is don't run
2 is run
3 is don't run
4 is run
5 is don't run
6 is run

When you die during combat, you are dead until somebody revives you or your team members reach an inn.

Magic attacks are for the mage or necromancer. What spell you use differs on what it does to the enemy.
1 is 1x your current damage
2 is miss
3 is 2x your current damage
4 is 2x your current damage
5 is miss
6 is 3x your current damage. This is a critical.

When the enemies are dead, I will roll for your items. Everybody shares the inventory.
1 is 2 normal items and 15 gold plus your current levels combined.
2 is 5 normal items and 20 gold plus your current levels combined.
3 is 2 normal items and a rare item and 25 gold plus your current levels combined.
4 is no drops and 5 gold plus your current levels combined.
5 is 5 normal items and 2 rare items and 0 gold.
6 is 5 rare items and 25 gold plus your current levels combined.

When in a dungeon, tower or a cave, you can roll to get chests with rare items.
1 is none
2 is two rare items
3 is none
4 is three rare items
5 is none
6 is four rare items

Now for the equipment and potions.
The equipment types are:
wool, wood, iron, steel, gold, ivory, silver, diamond and obsidian.
Wool is +3 armor
Wood is +6 armor and +5 attack
Iron is +14 armor and +15 attack
Steel is +20 armor and +25 attack
Gold is +35 armor and +40 attack
Ivory is +47 armor and +55 attack
Silver is +63 armor and +75 attack
Diamond is +94 armor and +95 attack
The obsidian helmet makes your invulnerable. The sword kills everything it touches.
The weapon types are:
longsword, shortsword, staff, hammer, axe, bow, longbow, wand, spear, polearm, maul and dagger.

Armor articles are:
Helm, Pants, Shirt and Boots.
the potions are
Healing:
Lesser, Normal, Improved, Greater and Ultra.
Lesser heals 25 plus what you rolled.
Normal heals 40 plus what you rolled.
Improved heals 60 plus what you rolled.
Greater heals 200 regardless of what you rolled.
Ultra heals 500 regardless of what you rolled.

Poision:
Fire, Knockout, Damage and Confusion.
Fire catches them fire. Deals 49 damage directly and 20 damage each turn.
Knockout makes them fall asleep for three turns.
Damage just flat out hurts them for half their health. Doesn't work on bosses.
Confusion makes them attack themselves for three turns.

ETC. items are completely random and sell for random amounts of gold. There are unlimited items, but for each item you get is put into this list:
None

Enemies are also completely random. Each one you fight is put into this list:
None

Your magic stance is what magic type your character is best with.

- Light
- Ice
- Wind
- Dark
Fire

You all start out with what weapons you want of wooden, and cloth armor.

This is your map. The yellow and black square is you.

537
No, seriously. Stop it.

It can't be that loving boring at school, and it just goes to show how much of a douche you are saying "I'm playing this from my school!".

So I don't know why but this has ALWAYS annoyed me. School is for learning, do so.

Off Topic / GENERIC ZOMBIE DEFENSE GAME CONCEPT AND stuff
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:13:42 AM »
READ IT OR I WILL KILL EVERY LIGHT FIXTURE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD.

I was thinking about minecraft and then I was like "stuff I want to make money like notch too".

But how could I? HOW COULD I?!

How about I make a game! That would be great!

I could learn how to use java and whatnot..It wouldn't be THAT hard.

So then I was thinking about what the game would be and I then realize that zombie defense games are fun.

But it has to be original!

So let me tell you what this is.

GZDG: Generic Zombie Defense game;
You start out in a menu.
"Exit", "Load", "Options" and "Play"

When starting, you have to name your character and roll for stats.

The stats would include:
Power: How powerful you are
Sight: How far away you can see and how much accuracy you have.
Speed: How fast you move and how fast you move items.
Sanity: Seeing zombies makes you scared. The higher the sanity, the less of a chance of "freaking out".
Willpower: Increases your willpower literally. Some things can't be done unless you have a higher willpower.

Then you choose what your character wears. Think of like choosing a different colored shirt, and whatnot.

Your town is randomly generated with randoms things and whatnot. You wake up in your house and the prompted message at the bottom says "You heard a strange noise coming from somewhere in the house!"
You then start out with one these weapons:

BB Gun
Board
Edged Ruler
Gloves

You choose which one by your determined weapon-type.

BB Gun would be ranged, Board would be blunt, Edged Rule would be Sharp and Gloves would be Unarmed combat.

Each one has a different trait.

Ranged allows you to fire from distances and not get hurt, except you have to reload.
Blunt can knock out zombies.
Sharp can inflict "Wound" which makes them get hurt over time.
Unarmed allows you to carry more items and acts like blunt.

You can carry as many items as your character can hold. There are holding items which can hold more items like a bag, a backpack and a mobile barrel and whatnot.

You go downstairs with your weapon, and you meet your first zombie. Zombies target you and only you. Being a certain radius away from them makes them stop chasing you and then wander around aimlessly. Once encountering a zombie, you have to get close enough to him and click on him. You attack anything that you click that's an enemy.

To pick up or use items, you click on them. Any item can be used as a weapon. The heavier the item, the harder it is to use it. Increasing your power lets you hold heavier weapons.

Once you kill the first zombie, your Experience goes up a little bit. Experience is used a little differently than usual. The higher it is, the better weapons you can use and the more damage you do. You "level up" by killing zombies, and you get Experience by using certain weapons that your character is accustomed to.

Certain items can be used to barricade doors and windows. Everything has a health-bar. Walls and floors can be destroyed and anything it's supporting falls. Falling things hurt and kill.

Stairs can be torn down, everything can be destroyed.

Moving onto the makeshift items. You can break down items and re-assemble them to make items like makeshift shovels and whatnot.

After starting the game you see you have seven bars.

These bars are your "needs" bars.

You need to eat, sleep, bathe, read, converse and exercise. And you have a health bar.

Eating can be done by getting food from anywhere and eating it. Eating heals you.
Sleeping is tricky, if your house isn't properly barricaded, zombies get in and kill you in your sleep. It heals you completely.
Bathing is optional, but it has some negative side affects. It heals you and removes any affects on you.
Reading calms your character. So does conversing with other people. What you read increases different things.
Exercising both heals you and increases power.

Eating and sleeping are essential. If the bars run out, you die or pass out.

Passing out is horrible as it renders your harmless.

Next you see that you have a clock. This clock tells you the time of day.

Now you're ready to barricade your house. Moving things in front of doors and windows aren't good enough. Makeshift barricades like boards and nails and makeshift locks work best.

You can also make and set traps.

Next you need to put stuff in your footlocker so you have stuff without being over-encumbered. You can make makeshift ones, but you start out with one. Once you gather up enough stuff, you can begin adding onto your house. Using boards, making floors and making your house safer should be priority number two.

What's number one?

HAVING ENOUGH FOOD IN YOUR loving FRIDGE.
You die without food, you become weak if you don't eat and there's no such thing as endless food.

Once you run out of food, you have to secure your house, get your stuff together and go to the market.

The market is full of both zombies and food. Markets hold both food AND items. Certain foods make you stronger, even less hungrier than other foods and whatnot. Any building you come across can be barricaded, so you can barricade the market.

Now after you've gotten a steady amount of food, and you have a safe shelter. Time to move on to looking for survivors.

Survivors can be saved by talking to them and leading them to safety. You can equip them with weapons and even play as them. Conversing with them calms your sanity and increases certain skills. It also increases their trust in you. The higher the trust, the more they list.

As long as you have allies, you can switch to playing them when you die.

When you die, you're dead. No respawning, no undoing and no going back in time before you died. Your character is lost forever once you die. If you have no more possibilities of continuing your town, it is lost unless you reclaim it with a new character.

Now that that's over with, lets move onto weather and affects

Weather consists of hard rain, light rain, heavy wind, snow and fog.

You can't see far ahead of you in hard rain or fog. Light rain makes puddles and gets you wet. Heavy wind blows around small items and snow can kill you if you don't have heavy clothes.

Affects are things that have been done to you.

You can have infected cuts, you can be poisoned, you can be hungry and stuff like that. Every one of them affects your character differently for better or for worst.

Now for Multiplayer games. You input a code to string to your IP. People connect to your 'server' using these codes. The game plays out the same except for multiple sentient people playing it. You can also add "AI" to act as other characters.

When a multiplayer game starts, not everybody spawns near each other. Everyone starts in a different house.

With multiplayer, you can click on a character to attack them, or right-click to trade items with them.

Oh yeah and there's no protection for your stuff. Anyone in the 'server' can steal anything you own.

And that's what I've thought up so far. Anything else I want to add will be added in the next post.

Off Topic / Should gun safety be taught in schools?
« on: May 07, 2011, 09:54:23 AM »
Gun safety is a good thing to know. Many people are killed by them or others not using a gun properly. In my honest opinion, schools should teach minors gun safety.

It's been argued that it wouldn't be safe letting guns near children, but I find this argument stupid. The whole thing would be teaching safety. And how many children would want to learn how to properly use guns?

Lots. Many children think guns is a fascinating topic, and no doubt would like to be educated about guns.

So what is your opinion on schools teaching gun safety? Please explain your vote in the poll in this thread.
