I'll try to make the explanation as simple as possible - a way to set a detailed description of a specific brick.

Let's say it's an event, self > setDescription, and it's parameters were the description itself, and the radius in whatever measurement you have to been in order to be able to "see" the brick.

Hypothetical situation, you want to set it up so saying /inv would spit out the description of each brick within a 60 stud radius. One specific tree brick's description is "an oak tree with dying leaves", so it would say in your client's chat "You see an oak with dying leaves".

Long story short, I'd love an easy way to set up a way to give the world some flavor text without being intrusive. I know this is possible, I just don't know how to do it :z

So far only the exterior has been made over the course of a weekend. This is pretty much the first ship I've made besides one other project.

Is there anything I can change to make it look better?

Suggestions & Requests / An event that calls an animation state
« on: January 11, 2016, 02:58:25 PM »
I don't know how to explain it better because my knowledge of modeling is limited at best, but I was thinking of an event that would change the state of the model of whatever item you're holding, or even your playertype

If this is possible and it's done, it would be loving sweet

It would be incredibly useful for changing the color of models without having to make new datablocks

Sometimes you just have to admire the simplicity of your surroundings. Take this red brick for example, as minimalistic as you can get, while still being stylistic in it's own terms. The message of this image is where every build starts, with the first brick:

It doesn't say too much, and it doesn't say too little. It's where we all begin, and the red's stark contrast against the green-on-blue environment also serves as a comme-

wait what's that little spec on the brick

Suggestions & Requests / Scroll brick

Simple enough to make, just a rolled up 1x2x1 scroll brick with a paintable parchment / paper

I need a brick to help differentiate stuff in an rpg and I'd appreciate the forget outta anyone who makes this

Extra Credits video

Basic rundown is that Chinese companies are teaming up with the government to create a "Citizen Credit" system where good citizens (Citizens who behave and follow their party loyally) get a better credit than your average citizens and get benefits.

As it stands, it's a voluntary program that is apparently supposed to be made mandatory by 2020. The video sums it up quite well.

This is going to be interesting to watch, if not completely horrifying. It's an ingenious way to control your citizens and it's socially manipulative. One of the worst features is that being friends with somebody with a lower score actually lowers your own score, encouraging you to convince your friend to be a 'better' citizen or to cut ties with them so you don't lose benefits.

Coupled with that, there's been a few words on punishments for having a low score, which the video also covers. What the forget?

Basically there's a bunch of different style of RPGs I can make and I wanna know what you guys think is the best.

#1: DRPG-like
Awhile ago there was a "Destiny Role Playing Game" gamemode that focused on skill building and resource collecting. You collected resources to build up your faction base and fight other players.

DRPG servers tended to get a bit more grindy, so a lot of times people lost interest after a week.

#2: Runescape-like RPG
Something ala Runescape, where you have an open world oriented around building skills and creating items, sometimes exploration. The difference between DRPG and Runescape-like is that it's a solo PvE oriented gamemode.

This also tends to get grindy, since it revolves around making skills and stats go up.

#3: Survival oriented RPG
An RPG built around maintaining survival stats and skills. You tend to see stuff like foraging for supplies, crafting systems, fighting off hunger and thirst and teaming up with players. In this gamemode I generally would also add building with resources to make it more like a fort wars RPG.

Less focus on skill building means less of a grind, but it would lean more towards being more of a deathmatch server than an RPG in most cases.

That's all of the types I was thinking of. I'm a bit more biased towards the first or second because they're more fun to event and build, but I wanna see your guy's input

Also, it's not limited to the three examples I gave, if you guys have any more ideas I would love you to share em

Games / What are some good roguelikes? ~ Roguelike Thread
« on: December 01, 2015, 04:24:52 PM »

What is a roguelike?
"Roguelike is a subgenre of role-playing video games, characterized by procedural generation of game levels, turn-based gameplay, tile-based graphics, permanent death of the player-character, and typically based on a high fantasy narrative setting."

Think of it like a regular gun and hammer, getting shot with the gun or hit with the hammer makes you drop your current weapon onto the floor, but does no damage.

Off Topic / Deep dish or new york style pizza?
« on: November 15, 2015, 02:56:21 PM »
In a clash of culture, a war broke out over which style of pizza is dominant. Those from the west coast preferred Deep Dish, but those on the east coast preferred New York Style (Pan Pizza)

Let's settle it once and for all. Deep Dish or New York Style?

Trust no one and do not hesitate to shoot. There are no friends in survival.
[Exodus - Mars Colony]

Exodus is a mixture of roleplaying, survival and exploration. Set after a devastating plague wipes out half of North America in 2055, American tourists were rounded up in internment camps around the UK in an attempt to quarantine any potential outbreaks. Between harsh living conditions and harsh treatment from the captors, a group of Americans prisoners successfully hijacked a shuttle, and set course for a large mars colony. After crash-landing on the surface of mars with the stolen British transport shuttle, the group takes shelter in an abandoned mars colony-turned mining facility, where they have to brave the elements and the environment to survive.

In it's current state, I'm opening the server for most development of the build for others to see. The general idea is that the server acts sort of like space station 13 in that the environment is highly interactable, leaving room for you to take up your own role in the server. The goal is to get means to defend yourself, set up a survivable safe area and make friends with people who don't want to murder you on sight, all the while the environment is trying it's best to kill you. Right now, the rule is that if you run out of lives, you have to change your roleplay name and role before you're revived. To offset the danger, there will be cloning stations that allow you to gain an extra life, or extra clone. The downside is that anyone with a weapon is allowed to attack and kill you.

The main theme of the server is horror and sci-fi. There will be scary or horrifying things on this server. I'm aiming for more psychological horror, but there will be a few jump scares for the faint of heart and many other things that could end up scaring you. This isn't a friendly server, nothing in the colony wants you to be alive.

Weapons and ammo will be scarce and limited, and will be handed out as rewards for performing tasks or being a major part of events. Dropped items to not disappear, bodies will be lootable and there will be storage containers strewn around the build. Laser-based weaponry will have unlimited ammunition but have low damage. I'm currently learning how to model so I can make a plethora of craftable makeshift melee weapons and ranged weapons that will be able to be crafted from scavenged parts around the station. The crafting system will be set up so you can craft weapons, ammunition, food and buff items, possibly even bombs and molotov roostertails.

Almost the whole colony is connected together, and the surface of mars will be fully explorable (provided you don't run out of air). You can expect a high brickcount, but I will also be releasing the entire save and it's required add-ons after a bit of playtime, possibly even a packaged deathmatch gamemode. The way the server is set up, you will be able to communicate with localchat by whispering, talking and yelling. In order to communicate to everyone, you need a radio, which only receives and transmits messages when you're holding it out. Events and other happenings will not be broadcasted, setting it up so you have to explore the colony, become familiar with your surroundings and get used to the radio to keep up with server events.

If you want to help administrate this server, fill out this admin application form and post it in the topic. If I feel you would make a good addition to the team, I'll PM you with the details. Please answer honestly and briefly. This is a casual application rather than a formal one, so there's no need to put too much effort into it. Alternatively, you could just ask for admin and I might consider it depending on if I know and trust you.

As a parting message, I am taking suggestions and requests. I can't improve my server if I don't have community feedback, and you guys probably come up with better ideas than I do, so I'd love to see what you guys can suggest or critique.

Sometimes you just gotta tone down on the stuffposting. Once in awhile low-effort posts aren't necessarily a bad thing but when it's your entire post history you gotta do some self reflection
