Howl's Moving Castle
Certified classic, arguably one of my favorite Ghibli films.

The Artist

Man Bites Dog

City of God

Have not seen any of the above just yet, but I know for fact I’d enjoy all of them, I just haven’t heard those titles in ages. 100% adding them to my list to watch

Citizen Kane

I don't like a lot of movies but I highly highly recommend this. Despite being over 50 years old it still feels incredibly fresh.

Many people cite this as “the best film ever,” I’ve given it a watch and I think it holds up very well. It’s certainly not my all time favorite, but I enjoy old films like this one. Compare this film to any of the others in the same decade and you’ll be floored by the editing style and performances no doubt. However, I totally understand why people are annoyed that film studies people obsess over this movie, but at the same time it’s mad influential for modern filmmakers.

Can't believe no one has said Blade Runner.

Finally watched both Blade Runner (the final cut) and Blade Runner 2049. Blade Runner - The Final Cut has swiftly entered my top 5 movies of all time.

UPDATE: I also watched Drive (2011) and now I understand where Nightcall and A Real Hero comes from. Feels like Baby Driver but a whole lot darker. Excellent pacing, everything is shot beautifully and is paired with an all star cast. Definitely would recommend!

here's a song that really blew me away when i first heard it. i have no experience with latin music but the depth and atmosphere of this track is really immersive

I like this! Fits pretty well with some of the indie music that I like listening to.

I would like to share an absolute banger with you all by Ginger Root: https://youtu.be/2SLGXNozdEU

I think it's cool that Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush re-entered the Top 40s charts because of this show lol

Also, in my personal opinion, I think the charm of this show is to make it purposefully campy to make it a critique of all sorts of 80s media. Between the mise-en-scene and even certain pieces of dialogue, you can tell that they're embellishing that time frame in the same way that Indiana Jones plays into 1930s adventure radio dramas. It's not for everyone, but it's a nice escape from the hijinks of today.

Those are actually some of the best movies - I know I already gave a small list of recommendations (I do hope you watched at least one of them because I would surely love to hear your opinion) another movie I'd like you to check out is called "The Fare"
I'll most certainly give them a watch! It's just a matter of sifting through a bunch of others that I promised people I'd check out in a reasonable time lmao

Next up on the list is likely to be The Graduate in honor of my grad school graduation from yesterday.

Pardon my language but I've been listening the H*CK out of bedroom pop / vaporwave / synthwave for background music. Such an example is: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7epBmGdZ3kp9xZE08DP4E4?si=85988661a55d4231

I took a film history class in college and this was one of the films we covered. But instead of just assigning the movie for us to watch, he gave us a choice - watch it as normal, or watch it muted and play the album "Mezzanine" by Massive Attack in the background, starting the movie and the album at the same time. I watched it with the album and it syncs up near perfectly, it's amazing. This is also how I found out the opening theme to House is on this album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7K72X4eo_s

Movie recommendation: check out love Drive. It's like a 6/10 movie but has a lot of funny bits, it's very evocative of mid-to-late 2000s teen raunchy comedies. There's also an uncut version which has 20 minutes of extra footage, mostly consisting of extended nudity gags for no reason, full frontal nudity and naked background extras for no reason, more profanity for the hell of it, etc. It's amazing, I need to rewatch it.

I never heard of that! Wow that’s really cool, I want to check out that Dr. Caligari mashup, plus I enjoy that Massive Attack album as is. Reminds me a lot of the more popular “Dark Side of Oz” mashup.

Update: I watched “When Harry Met Sally” for the first time, starts off with some good laughs with Billy Crystal’s advice, but you’ll end up in some form of an emotional wreck by the time you reach the ending. If you’re a sap, you’d enjoy this as much as I did. The mise-en-scene carries the story over well too.

havent watched it because i had the same thoughts on seasons 2 and 3. maybe ill give 4 a shot. hope there isnt too much important continuity connected from 3 to 4

I had low expectations after Season 3 myself, but I feel that they stick to the original formula of what made the show interesting in this season. This season is anything but slow

just binged the whole thing today & episode 4 made me cry. this season is definitely better than season 2 and 3 was and im really glad cause i was kinda losing any hope of the show getting better.
I agree, I think that they got back into the rhythm of what made the show interesting to begin with. This season does a good job at breaking your expectations and spends little time on the unimportant subplots, keeping you right in on the action.

I also enjoy watching most of these characters, however, I'm not a Mike Wheeler enthusiast. Other than him, I'm pretty invested in all of the characters doing their things. Even the new characters they brought on this season are entertaining to watch as they grow into their own.

Episode 4 and 7 I feel are the strongest so far and I absolutely agree, I was also moved in Episode 4. Very hype for the second half to drop in in July. Glad it didn't end of a cliffhanger, it more so set the stage for what's to come and I appreciate that.

Just got caught up to episode 7 of Season 4. I think this season holds up better than Seasons 2 and 3.

What are your thoughts? Are you guys stoked to see how this season pans out on July 1st?

Can't believe no one has said Blade Runner.
You know what's funny, I was actually going to watch this within the next few days and follow it up with the sequel. I heard through the grapevine that The Final Cut or Director's Cut are better than the original theatrical release so I'll do that.

Nobody was actually pretty entertaining to me. Its a bit goofy at parts but it kept my attention.
Saul Goodman AND The Doc in one movie? Sold.
Also watch Morbius
No.

it's not a "classic" but Arrival is one of the coolest science fiction movies ever made
I'm surprised I haven't heard of this, it looks like it was well received too.

Update: Watched Groundhog Day for the first time, you could tell it was produced by Harold Ramis and it was a well done production by him as well. Would recommend, starts up a little choppy but turns out to be a lot more entertaining than I was imagining at first glance.

You know, I'm glad that you mentioned this because a buddy of mine showed this to me a few years back and I absolutely lost my marbles. 10/10, good meme.

pulp fiction is loving great and i would rec you to bump it up to the top of your list

if you like that or american psycho immediately follow it up with no country for old men cause its like the best of both merged into one movie
I watched both American Psycho and Pulp Fiction, I enjoyed Pulp Fiction a lot more than American Psycho, but American Psycho was entertaining in the way that watching a high speed car crash is a sight you can't look away from. No Country For Old Men is on my list and I'm probably going to watch this one in the near future.

go watch cube 1997 and shaun of the dead
I forgot about Shaun of the Dead, I also have been recommended the Resident Evil movies. I definitely want to check out both.

Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers if you like meta stuff

I don't know too much about this movie, but at surface value I enjoy the combo of cell-animation meets CGI meets live action to appease all audience's preferences. Definitely will give it a go.

a good recommend indeed

if you like mind-forget / psychological thrillers or just "plot twist" type movies in general here is a small section from my favs list to add to your list. pick one that looks interesting ? :)
Nice! I haven't seen any of these just yet but I'm definitely in for a good plot twistery.

Update: I watched The Goonies for the first time and you can tell where the Duffer brothers got a lot of their inspiration for Stranger Things. Certified "Hey you guys" moment.

I feel like it's unlikely that you'd get younger generations that did not grow up in the era of the internet where forums were the main social media outlet. The more we progress into the future, the less likely you'll find people actively looking for forums or even knowing that they existed in the first place. You'd probably have to garner some media attention to the forums and/or Blockland itself to showcase how despite "the odds," the forums continue to exist. On the flip side, I think that with the turbulence of the past few years, you'll likely see some people from yesteryear stroll through for some comfort.
