What exactly is jailbreaking and is it illegal?

Jailbreaking, at it's core, allows you to do a stuff ton more with your iDevice. It's legal but it voids your warranty (if you have one).

1) Yes.
2) The worst that happens is you have to factory reset it and lose whatever content you have saved to your device. However, jailbreaking is pretty simple, and the chances of you loving something up that bad are slim.
3) Looks fine to me.
