Suggestions & Requests / I'd love a couple of admin-only things
« on: April 28, 2013, 11:12:58 PM »
I feel really stupid that I can't remember all of what I wanted, but whatever, here's what I do remember

I made a topic a while ago about wanting admins to automatically have trust with everyone
I still want this. like, not necessarily do they need to have actual trust with the players, but I'd at least like to be able to do things that normally require trust without actually having to have it

another thing is like, a tool of some kind that respawns or clears a vehicle without having to find the spawn or use the command that resets or clears all of them

that's... all I can remember :I
but if I remember anything else, I'll edit it in

Games / Good flash games?
« on: April 23, 2013, 08:09:52 PM »
I've been in this (basically worthless) history class in school, and it's all online, so we're always using computers. when we have free time (which is almost all the time for me), we can play games or whatever we want to do, as long as it's school-appropriate
so I've gotten into flash games

anyway, what are some good ones?
I'm interested in any emotional ones, even if it's only slightly emotional. for example, The Majesty of Colors and Perspective
and upgrade games, especially about launching things, are great. preferably ones that don't make it too hard or tedious to earn money. Learn to Fly 2 is probably the best example

also, the ones you suggest don't have to be school-appropriate, I can play them at home if they aren't

Drama / Lando the Climber, jesus christ
« on: April 22, 2013, 09:44:42 PM »
this loving kid
he added me on facebook
since I didn't know why, and I don't otherwise know how I could get in contact with him, I asked marooncacti on skype to ask why he added me
and he did. and lando was supposedly "deeply offended" and wanted me to accept his contact request, and I did (dunno why I didn't just ignore it)
anyway, he's like "deeply offended" more, and I tell him that the reason I didn't accept his facebook request is because I don't want some weirdo who I don't know as a friend on facebook
so he's like "well then I'll just add your dad!!"
so I blocked him
I also blocked maroon, bc I am assuming he's involved. that's not a big deal, though, we never talked anyway. I would've removed him before long whether or not this happened

that's all
but seriously. it's loving weird

ok, first is like
for orbit, and every other kind of movement in space, where does all the energy come from? like, we're always moving through space, but the earth isn't putting out. I don't understand! no energy is required for orbit, besides what gets you there in the first place, right? so why do you keep moving? it seems like cheating. as soon as you're done accelerating, there's no issue of power. but why not?!

second: does mass affect the speed of acceleration in zero-gravity? like, a baseball and a car with the same engine, would there be any difference in the amount of energy required to get them to the same speed?

third: if you have a generator, and you're in zero-gravity, and you get it going, would it require less power to keep it going than it would on earth? since there's no gravity, there'd be a little less resistance, right?

fourth: speaking of generators... this one is a little hard to explain. but imagine a really large, circular tube surrounding the earth way up in orbit. the tube isn't (necessarily) turning, unless it would need to. but there's a big magnet moving in orbit, through the tube, and the inside of the tube is like, a really really long coil of wire (whatever kind of wire would allow for electromagnetic induction. like in generators). or the tube could be the magnet and the orbiting thing could be the wire coil, but I doubt that would be as effective. so, what I'm asking is, would that work to generate electricity? like, I'm sure it's not feasible right now, and it would be very expensive, I'm sure, but it is possible?

I probably seem stupid asking these questions. but I'm curious. and I can't ask my teacher, because he's not actually knowledgeable about it, he's just a baseball coach that the school got to teach a class because they didn't have enough teachers or couldn't afford to pay enough teachers idk

Games / What does Xbox Live do that breaks stuff??
« on: April 13, 2013, 04:27:26 PM »

seriously xbox
at 12:46:09 PM PDT they had it saying "blah blah, check back in thirty minutes!"
so I did and they've still got the same message, just with a different time stamp
and I don't even know if that was the first time they had the message up
but I can't sign into xbox live because of this
I can find other things to do, but what I wanna know is why this happens
like, what are they doing, whyyyy is it having trouble

Off Topic / The last good chihuahua has left us.
« on: April 08, 2013, 04:55:27 PM »
so like
we have three dogs at my dad's house, two chihuahuas and a yellow lab/golden retriever mix
well, we had three
last night, one of the chihuahuas, who was the mother of the other one, got out of the house, and somehow got into our neighbor's dogs' cage
he keeps them in his cages all the time. the only time he does anything with them is to feed them, and he never lets them out. I hate him for it, but there's nothing illegal about it, because he feeds them and they have just enough room to live. because of that, they're very aggressive
so, anyway, she got into one of the cages
and the dog whose cage she got in killed her
not only is the chihuahua herself dead, but she was pregnant

I mean, I'm not torn up over it. but that dog was my second favorite ever, after the lab/retriever mix I mentioned earlier
I guess I'm lucky that I didn't have to see any of it. I feel bad for my stepbrothers and their mom, though

this?
I have a cannibal special interest... i really want someone to come to my house and beat me over the head with a rock until you can see my head dripping blood, i want you to stick a cup under my head so you can get a glass of my blood and drink it, then i want you to tie me to a tree and skin me, turn my skin into a floor mat then cut off my vulva and eat it while you roast me on a stick, remember that when I'm dead I should void my bowels, so there will be stuff, take the time I take to roast to create a suace with the poop, when I'm done cooking you cover me in the sauce and you can take all the time you want to eat me.

if you're willing to come to my house you can do whatever you want to me as long as you fufil my desire afterwrds, I LOOK FORWARD TO loving YOU, REMEMBER TO START OFF WITH FOREPLAY: 3536 Williams Avenue, Agua Dulce, CA 91350
I'm just saying. it doesn't make sense to me

Basically it's 4:00 AM and I'm ultra bored, and thought this would be a nice idea.
So, first I wanna start with some simple things.
Such as posting!
The most-known way to achieve this is by pressing the "reply" button at the tops and bottoms of topics. But there's a less clear way to go about it, and is much more easy to use. In the "Look and Layout Preferences" section of your settings (which can be found on your profile), near the bottom, is a drop-down box next to a description involving quick reply. I would suggest changing this to "show, on by default." If you choose the other "show" option, you'll have to click the arrow on the actual quick reply box.

Regular BBC (Bulletin Board Code, aka the stuff that lets you express what you're trying to say better, like [img][/img] or [i][/i]) will still work with it, but you'll have to know the codes in order to use it. For the most common ones, like for images and italics, it's really easy to memorize, and shouldn't pose difficulty.
As far as the content of your posts goes, just not acting like an idiot is a generally good idea here, as well as everywhere else on the internet.

And modifying! This is pretty much only for new people.

The yellow-boxed things are the edit buttons. The one that actually says "modify" is the most obvious, and it opens a new page much like the new post page. The other one, the quick modify (not sure if that's its official name but it fits) button, allows you to edit the post without leaving the page. I love that button, and it's very convenient. To my knowledge, it is enabled by default and can't be disabled, not that I can imagine why you'd want to disable it.
The thing surrounded by red is what lets you know someone edited a post. Something neat about this is that if you edit the post within a certain amount of time after making it (not sure exactly how long), the notification doesn't actually show up.

On to more complex (but not very) things! Like the search engine!
No offense, SMF 1.1.16 search, but you suck! Seriously! Anyway... Most of the search menu is really self-explanatory. The major issue with it is that it only shows one result per topic. So you gotta try to be specific when you search.
And something that I'm sure very few people know about is the ability to search your private messages. This is nearly useless, for most people, but for those of us with quite a library of PMs, it could come in handy someday.

Now for some BBC! Which is a little different here than on some other forums that use BBC, but generally it's the same, just with a few less commands.
Quote is the easiest code to master. You just press the quote button on a post, and the forum automatically inserts the proper code. Isn't that cool? But if you're quoting something like Wikipedia, and decide to use the quote code rather than quotation marks, you just need to use the regular old quote tags.
Code: [Select]
[quote][/quote]
Now that I've introduced you to the actual code codes... Code is used for, well, code. Notably, it makes SMF ignore BBC, until it reaches the closing tag. That's probably its only use for "normal" people.
On the other hand, we have noBBC! There is no button for this one, and it has essentially the same common use, except without the ugly grey and "Code:" at the top! If you were wondering how I got the image and italic tags to stay text, earlier, and didn't just quote the post to find out, this is it.
Code: [Select]
[nobbc][/nobbc]
Abbreviation/Acryonym/Probably something else, too! This is like, alt text. When you hover over the text, it shows the message you typed.
Code: [Select]
[abbr=Example text!][/abbr]
Table tags are a little confusing, if you don't know what each one does. You first have to have the initial opening table tag, [table]. Then you start making the table. [tr] is used to start a new row, and [/tr] is used at the end of it. [td] is used for, like, cells. But the cells correspond to cells in other rows. So, the first cell in one row will be in line with the first cell in the next. The three buttons with 3x3 cells are the table buttons.
For example:
helloworld
I loveitall!
"hello" and "I love" are in a column, "world" and "it" are in a column, and "all!" is in its own column. See how it aligns them? It's a good idea to just mess around with it a little, to really understand, since I probably didn't do a great job of explaining. Has limited uses, but if you're making lists, it's nice to know how to use it.
Code: [Select]
[table][tr][td][/td][/tr][/table]

I'm gonna add some more codes tomorrow! but it's like 5:31 now, so, yknow.
If anyone has any questions about something, or needs me to clarify whatever, ask! Please! I'd love to answer some questions if I can.
Also, I have no idea at all why there's that face overlooking stats pages, and stuff like that. It makes no sense for it to be there. What is it even doing? I don't know. I'm sure someone does, so if anyone actually knows, feel free to post it.

Drama / "who are you???"
« on: March 15, 2013, 09:02:21 PM »
I figured this was more relevant in drama than off-topic
anyway
all the time I'm seeing people here (and not just here, it happens everywhere else, I'm sure) get insulted or whatever, and then ask the person who insulted them "who are you?"
because it totally matters whether or not you know them
for example, you don't need to know me in order for me to think you're an idiot
it is seriously stupid to say
and then, they don't even respond to the actual insult
like the fact that you don't know them means what they said is automatically irrelevant

Off Topic / What is wrong with Winamp?
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:51:02 PM »
it's only playing sound out of the right side of the headphones
I've checked, and every other thing works fine. youtube and whatever
even foobar works, but the issue with that is that it doesn't (seem to) have an easier way to control the music, so I don't have to open the whole window every time I want to skip something or whatever
like, winamp calls it "windowshade mode"
honestly I don't like winamp, so if there's another program that can do something like that, it would be much preferable to fixing winamp
also I don't want to use itunes, it organizes the music in weird ways and I don't like using it anyway

Off Topic / I have a new question about Morrowind
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:45:22 PM »
so a little while ago I looked on the TES website, and found out that both Arena and Daggerfall are free
which is something I'm totally interested in
but you need to have a DOS emulator
so that brings me to my first question: what should I use?
I'm considering DOSBox, bc it's open-source (and free), so that's cool, but is it any good?
it seems like it is, but I'd rather be sure

my second question is about morrowind
I want it, but I'm not sure if I could play it with my laptop
I can run UT2004 with the highest settings for everything, but while that's not saying much, morrowind was released two years earlier
so, would you say it's likely that I'd be able to play morrowind on it?
I exceed all of the required specs, so I'm not sure why I'm even asking

the third is also about morrowind, but instead, about its compatibility
I have windows 7
this is barely a real question though, since experience has led me to believe that nearly anything that works on XP will also work on 7

if I had to, I'd get it for my xbox 360 instead, but besides the fact that I feel weird playing original xbox games on a 360, I'm hoping to have the ability to use mods if I decide to

ok, so I've already got arena pretty much working, and daggerfall too, soon
but my other question:
where should I get morrowind?
I considered Gamestop's PC downloads thing, but one of the reviews for the game says that it doesn't allow you to use the console, or install mods, etc.
which would really put me off
so, is that true, or what?
in any case, I'd still rather use some other service, because Gamestop requires you to download their program too

actually, I just found it on steam. but still, if I can't convince my mom to buy it on that (which I may not be able to), is there another good option?

57
seriously? why do that?
besides restricting your views, it does absolutely nothing
you even have to go out of your way to do it
of course, this wouldn't be a problem if it weren't an option in the first place
but why on earth would you do it ffs
WHY IS IT AN OPTION

ok well that's all, I just lost my patience over this issue a few minutes ago and wanted to say something

58
BUT
none of this is really good
he's like my least favorite of all uncles
him and his wife are the only people who would actually have an issue were they to know about my loveuality

anyway I logged into steam today and it said "SUGGESTED FRIENDS:" then whatever his steam name is, and then "*facebook icon* Chris Coppenbarger"
I thought the name was familiar, so I searched it! and I found out who it was
and it was my uncle
so I've unlinked my facebook profile from steam, bc I'm sure it works both ways, and apparently he's the only one of my facebook friends who uses steam so w/e

I've always known this about him, but he's also like this huge bible weirdo (explains the loveuality thing)
some of the stuff on his blog is ridonkulous tho
http://inklingsofreality.blogspot.com/

so um ya. I don't like my uncle!
never really have. they have like three kids, and they're super-sheltered and homeschooled and one of them is like eight or some stuff (I really have no idea) and acts like she's five...
ugh
anyway that's it

Off Topic / Got cats, meow.
« on: January 24, 2013, 10:43:56 PM »
they're cute. of course, a German Shepherd would be better, imo, but we can't all have what we want
and like I've said a billion times, I don't dislike cats, I just prefer canines

anyway, pics
this is like, within a few minutes of when they first got into the house

a little while after. I'm not sure why, but the dark cat is a lot more shy than he was when this picture was taken. weird. my sister probably forgeted with him or something, she's a richard to them sometimes

light cat on my messy bed

dark cat behind the couch (that my mom pulled out for him... I honestly don't see the wisdom in condoning his shyness so much)

the light one is Allen, and the dark one is Luke. strange names for cats if you ask me, and we're considering calling them something else. just dunno what

Off Topic / do I have terrible taste in music?
« on: January 14, 2013, 03:37:57 AM »
so I've been wondering about what people, in general (not sure if the users here classify as people...), think about the kind of music that I happen to like
also I wanna mention that, from any particular artist or group, I will probably only like a couple of their songs. and that I very rarely care about the words in the songs, it's just the notes and stuff that I enjoy. if a song is one that I like for the lyrics, I'll mention that specifically

first off, britney spears!
I hate her voice. not sure why exactly but I can barely stand it. the only reason I still listen to any of her music is because of how much I like the music when I do. for example, I like:
Womanizer
Circus

lady gaga!
honestly I really don't like her songs, when she performs them. I like the music, played well by other instruments, but that's kinda hard to find so I'm not gonna bother with examples. use your imagination! or, I guess, your search bar. or your address bar depending on what browser you use

owl city!
basically just fireflies. if it helps, I hate good time. carly rae jepsen has some skill imo but she's wasting it :/
Fireflies

speaking of carly rae; carly rae jepsen!
once again it's just one song, call me maybe. super overplayed and all but honestly I enjoy the song. still wasting talent imo, but w/e
Call Me Maybe

prguitarman!
so if you know anything really you already should have guessed exactly what this is about. yes nyan cat. it's just the same damn thing over and over again but oh god I love it and it's so cute
Nyan Cat

loituma?
this song is loving crazy man. I don't understand a word. but I'm not finnish so that's probably understandable. also it's levan polkka, or eva's polka, somethin idk what
Levan Polkka or something

that's about it for now
there's a lotta stuff I could mention but it's like damn late and I'm not gonna even right now
