When you get past the small cast, poor character models, and terrifying conversation system ("Lol assassins attacked my sons, and I'm next :D"), Oblivion is simply better than Skyrim.
Maybe it's the nostalgia, or maybe it's because Bethesda was too busy feeling proud of their Radiant Story to put Oblivion's effort into Skyrim.

It's a lot easier to say truthfully that you've witnessed the experiments firsthand and make it sound convincing, than it is to read it from a script.

The Nords aren't intolerant of everything that breathes, the Altmer aren't arrogant douchebags, the Dunmer aren't treated like trash, and the Imperials are actually trusted in Oblivion. It's wonderful.

After six and a half months on the market, Skyrim has lost a great deal of its intrigue.
Oblivion, after six years on the market, still has the same luster it used to have.

I think I'll go back to Oblivion for a while.
