Are there plans for free movement? Or will we be restricted to 8 directions?

Sorry for not posting patch notes for the recent update, but it should have free brown townog movement now.

There's still a few things I need to iron out with it but it functions pretty well.

It has brown townog movement for most things, but when you aim it locks you to 8 directions to make it easier to hit things.

I'm still recovering from PAX sadly, managed to get sick again this year which took me out for the past week.

While delirious though I did some doodling and made a few new cute monsters:

Might have to change the slimes a bit even though I love them, came out a bit too much like dragon quest

Also the interview with guude from Mindcrack went up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUn2N_JjvaE

Came out really good, this made me realize I need to put up some up to date gameplay footage that feature the new graphics.

...also in the interview perhaps I should have mentioned the new graphics lol.

Help / Re: "Server could not verify your Blockland ID"
« on: May 04, 2016, 08:27:56 PM »
Ok so I used my non-steam version of Blockland and checked it's cmd, it showed up this.
%
Binding server port to default IP
UDP initialized on port 11589
Starting client authentication...
Engine initialized...
WARNING: authTCPobj_Client - got non-200 http response "403"
WARNING: 4xx error on authTCPobj_Client, retrying
%

Not sure if that is anything useful or not.

Thought about it some more, try doing:

trace( 1 );

Then, auth_Init_Client();

trace( 0 );

then post the results.

I appreciate what you're doing with the being able to attack using primary attack thing but being able to put objects down on the ground right in front of you is a little important too.
If you're really attached to the new way that it works, you can still make that possible as a function of the secondary attack key, since it currently doesn't do anything while you're holding an object.

B is the new cancel button on the controller, on keyboard you may have to bind it.

Going to write a thing in the next update to reset controls per update if I need it, since right now there's no way for me to wipe players prefs.

Edit: Default bindings update only when writing a new set of prefs and configs.

Seems like you had a lot more people over at your booth.
Which i honestly can understand since it is a multiplayer game so naturally you will see more people over at one time.

I think it was just when the picture was taken.

Just put an update out for the beta.

Which adds in all the things from the PAX demo, as well as a few damage tweaks here and there.

Going to be some oddities in the update most likely, as I made a bunch of quick big changes for the PAX demo itself.

quitting the game just crashes it

I sincerely have no idea what I could have changed, but this does seem to be more common now.

what if the character creator was a canvas in a room and you paint the canvas when making your character

and then when you're done, your character pops out of the canvas and cheers or something. just some idea that popped in my head

I was thinking of doing something like this a while ago, just having the ability to make the character then have him instantly walking around would be really fun.

Also this would be a cool thing to have an automated gif maker thing for, showing the drawing of the character then him popping out and posing.

Love the new soundtrack!

P.S. You can still use the Jetpack if under the effects of sleep, good strat to not be totally vulnerable but I doubt it was intentional.

Yeah I'm really digging the new music as well, hyperunknown is super talented I really lucked out finding him.

I'll write down the jetpack glitch, thanks for reporting it.

Alright so PAX is done, I'm starting to get back to work on things now.

Going to fix a few bugs and update the ice world to fit with the new damage/mechanics.

Next update will feature all the fun new items/secrets from the PAX demo, and a few touches to the ice world.

After that I'm going to work on the Mac port some more, as that's fallen behind too much for my liking.

Edit: Managed to only get mildly sick from PAX, also here's one of the few pics I found of people playing the game.

Sadly my tv was a casualty of exhibiting at PAX East, it survived the whole experience just to get destroyed during move out or when being transported back in my car :(

RIP in pieces. #2soon

In good news there's a lot of exciting and big things potentially happening for my game, that I can't talk about at all publicly!

PAX is over, things went really well.

I am tired, and my throat hurts like all hell.

Not actually from PAX however, I drank scolding hot tea yesterday at lunch.

I did a few interviews, and talk to some news people so you may see things pop up in the coming weeks.

People were really excited for both our games, it was really great to see.

Booth is setup, pictures will be posted tomorrow or the next day if I'm not dead.

Edit: Slightly better map

That's why I'm studying game dev and music, so that if my game dev career fails, I can be a starving musician too

This comment is great, I seriously lol'd when I first read it.

Ok boys and girls, whoever is in the steam beta can now try the demo I'm going to be showing at pax if they so desire.

If you want to give it a shot, go to Forgettable Dungeon in your library.

Right click Forgettable Dungeon -> properties -> betas

Input the password, turtlesAreGreat

Then you should get the update, you may have to restart steam since it's fresh on the repo.

The demo is the first area of the game, with all new revamped gameplay, new music, items, and a buncha tweaks.

If you find any bugs or weirdness please report it to me.

Edit: You may need to raise the volume of the music, and lower sfx. Still need to fix some ogg stuff

Edit 2: Also you can press in the left brown townog stick to toggle between a heart container gui and the health bar, and toggle the right brown townog stick to make a green triangle appear above your head.

This is to test a few things live in person.

Are those pins the only ones being given out? Or will there be different designs?

Badspots giving out the same ones he had last year, but I ran out of last years and only ordered one design this time.

Is there anything new with Perennial?

There's actually a lot new with Perennial, it's just Badspot doesn't keep super active with his dev log.

Here's a link to it, http://perennial.ninja/Blog.html

Sadly he hasn't posted stuff on the new levels yet.

does badspot wear iron man pajamas

He wishes, those are my iron man pajamas.

That's also the only pic I had on hand of his card.

Now that things are slightly less on fire I figure it's a perfect time to mention that we're going to have a booth at PAX East again this year.

We're going to be showing The Forgettable Dungeon, & Perennial again.

We'll also be giving out Forgettable Dungeon & Perennial trading cards & pins.

We're booth number 11241, Happy Box Games, in the top left corner of the map.

Be sure to come down and say hi if you're at PAX, and as always please don't try to kill us.

East, darn that's too far from Los Angeles.... hoping you go west one day.

Also I think the game needs a new themed section... how about a mechanical dungeon area? With circuit board imprints, rivets and steel, maybe with a a bit of rust here and there, something like what you would see in a cyberpunk rpg esque game.

That'd be neat, I think I have the main default themes set but that would be a really cool secret theme.

with every new gif comes more and more spelunky references

also the bug with fillcan not working properly in the editor window is still there.

Spelunky is the greatest game evarrr, which is why you will see it's influence a lot in my game.

Fill can works more like a replace, I should probably change it to actually be a flood fill sometime.

I originally did it the other way because I needed it to work in a week, and replace is super simple to code.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwAO6bX7Mlc

Made a new teaser trailer for the game, so I'd have something to show on the steam page launch.

Since the old trailer doesn't have the shiny graphics.

It also shows a few new things you may have not seen.

Also this song was composed just for the game, how neat is that.
