WHAT IS THIS?
Welcome to my humble mini-roleplay based on games like Mount and Blade and similar. Players will control knights and pledge allegiance to whichever nation they desire and engage in glorious COMBAT and CONQUEST and COLOGNE! Align yourselves with a king and rise through the ranks, assembling a band of hardened souls and marching to victory!

WHAT'S THE STORY HERE?
The collapse of the First Empire plunged Realm Astor into a state of disarray and betrayal, precipitating the creation of six nations and the invasion of another. In order to restore peace, one of the seven rulers must be crowned High King through an asinine voting process involving themselves. As a result, the only way to bring peace is for one nation to conquer a majority of the nations present.

HOW DO I JOIN? HOW DO I PLAY?
Just simply state you're joining (please name your character and give a brief bio). You may pick what nation to begin in. All players will start as men-at-arms, a mercenary. From there you can visit villages (small dots) and recruit men to assemble a warband. You may then either remain a sword-for-hire or pledge allegiance to a particular king. Only as a vassal to a king may you be granted fiefs (villages, castles, and cities). If you want to conquer a fief and try to found a new kingdom, may the gods have mercy on your soul.

If you wish to release yourself from a pledge of allegiance, speak with your king. He will confiscate your fiefs and you will be freed of your contract.

RULES

1. Battles between players are settled through either a single or a series of posts by myself and the battle's affiliates. The players' choices in troop composition and strategy will influence the outcome of the battle as well as limited RNG.
2. Technology will progress as a result of events controlled by me. Don't worry about it.
3. Map edits that are not included in the OP are not final unless identified as such.
4. Act within reason (that includes omniscience/metagaming/powergaming).
5. You may not sell fiefs. You may only exchange them (1 village for 1 village, etc.).
6. Naval combat will be handled similar to land battles.
7. If you are pledged to a certain country, you must follow calls to arms from your king and respect defensive treaties made with other countries. Failure to do so may result in exiling or execution. If you wish to break a pledge, you will have to renounce your fiefs to your king.
8. You cannot RP for vassals you do not control.
9. If your character dies, you may make another.
10. Try to stay within reason of the era.
11. Do not personally insult another player for their actions in the thread. If you wish to berate them, do it in-character.
12. Do not argue with the OP unless the OP explicitly asks for criticism regarding a particular update or result.
13. If you have a problem with a battle's outcome or king's decision, suck it up. That's the way the dice roll. I consider myself a fair "dungeon master" and will not bend my rules to suit your tantrums.
14. If you feel something is amiss or could be improved, privately message me.
15. You are allowed to enter "stasis" where the OP will control your character for as long as you are gone (ex. you need to go to camp for a week).
16. Attempting to loophole my rules will result in your removal from the roleplay.
17. Amendments to the rules are possible. Be aware.

The reason this thread exists is two fold: 1. For me to collect data on where the forums stands on various political issues and 2. To raise consciousness and political comprehension for the everyday child/teen/adult on here as best I can.

(chances are the issues I present and how I present them will revolve somewhat around the United States, so please be aware)


HOW'S IT GONNA WORK?

I'll post 3 issues pertaining to a specific category for your guys to discuss and voice an opinion on. Just make a post in this thread of your stances to be counted. If you wish to elaborate on what you believe and why you believe in it, I would appreciate it.

Questions in blue at the end of each subsection will be the ones I'm looking out for, so please make sure to at least touch upon them.

After I've received a decent number of responses on the current set of issues, I'll compile the results and toss in another rotation for you guys to give your two cents on. Sound fun?

ON THE SUBJECT OF: IMMIGRATION ISSUES

Today we'll be handling immigration issues--that is to say, issues relating to immigrant emigration, xenophobia, and constitutionality.


BORDER SECURITY

The border between Mexico and the United States is nearly two-thousand miles in length (over three-thousand kilometers). Of this border is the American-owned, operated, and supervised half--the only half to it, actually. Mexico does not maintain a border with the United States. The refugee crCIA in Europe is bringing up new issues across the pond as well in places like Germany, Hungary, and the United Kingdom as to how secure their borders should be to prevent immigrants from entering, whether it be legally or illegally. As per usual, there are two positions:

PRO-STRONGER BORDER SECURITY PLANKS:
- prevents immigrants from entering illegally
- prevents immigrants from smuggling paraphernalia like drugs in
- reduces the number of new immigrants occupying jobs
- gives displaced Mexicans nowhere else to turn, thus catalyzing reform in Mexico

ANTI-STRONGER BORDER SECURITY PLANKS:
- costs an exorbitant amount of money to construct, maintain, and monitor
- if immigrants still get past after consolidating the border, it invalidates the entire project
- immigrants will just find new modes into the country
- we should help Mexico with their problem instead of blocking it out

My questions to you, OT, are these: Where do you stand on border security? Do you think the government should make it stronger, weaker, or leave it the same? What kind of border security measures do you think are appropriate to employ?


BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP

The Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution reads as follows: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." This clause has led to a phenomenon known as anchor babies, in which illegal immigrants have a child in the United States, thus making them a citizen, and guaranteeing its parents amnesty so they can care for said child. The recent influx of Mexican immigrants has sparked debates on whether this amendment should remain as-is, or if it should be revised so that only children of legal citizens receive citizenship.

PRO-BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP PLANKS:
- decreases illegal immigration numbers (people are less inclined to travel in family units)
- increases the population of the affected nation
- does not require another amendment
- reduces stress on government-subsidized functionaries like healthcare

ANTI-BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP PLANKS:
- allows anchor baby-ship
- making a distinction of parent citizenship would open up a new can of worms
- preserves the cultural identity of the affected nation
- removes incentive to cross borders if citizenship can't be option through a loophole

My questions to you, OT, are these: Where do you stand on birthright citizenship? Do you think that children of illegal immigrants should be given citizenship, or not? Do you think children should receive birthright citizenship only if their parents are citizens?


CULTURAL ASSIMILATION

Cultural assimilation is when an immigrant adopts the customs and language of their new residence. The United States does not have a national language, although English is understandably the benchmark. The influx of Spanish-speakers has diluted many previously English-dominated environments, leading to a large language barrier between employers and their employees, or other scenarios.

PRO-CULTURAL ASSIMILATION PLANKS:
- improves communication between all involved
- reduces the chances of grief or incident from differing cultures/religions
- creates stronger sense of fraternity
- preserves the cultural independence of the affected nation

ANTI-CULTURAL ASSIMILATION PLANKS:
- increases violence due to lack of tolerance for foreign cultures/religions
- sacrifices the uniqueness of a foreign culture
- increases xenophobia
- makes populace more narrow-minded; it only supports cultural homogeny instead cultural heterogeny

My questions to you, OT, are these: Where do you stand on cultural assimilation? Do you think immigrants should culturally assimilate to the nation they're entering, or not? Do you think people of different cultures should totally abandon the nuances of their old culture (Mexicans don't eat Mexican food or celebrate Day of the Dead, for example)?

In August 1945, during the final stage of the Second World War, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two bombings, which killed at least 129,000 people, remain the only use of nuclear weapons for warfare in history.

The two bombings killed an estimated 129,000-246,000 soldiers and civilians. Despite its fearsome destructive potential, the two bombings are not the most lethal bombing in history. Operation Meetinghouse, which took place five months before Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is credited as being the most lethal (and it used conventional explosives, to boot). The firebombings and conventional bombing sorties against Japan killed many more than the atom bomb ever did, although the outset of the Cold War has inflated their lethality.

Survivors of the atomic attacks are known as hibakusha, "explosion-affected people". These survivors endured many harsh effects of radiation such as burns, vaporization, irradiation, and blindness. Among the most horrifying of the atomic bomb's effects is the creation of anime and manga.

Anime and manga was invented in 1976 when Otomo Astuffaka of the Otomo clan first made contact with the Portuguese Nanban traders on the island of Tanegashima. As such, anime was first called "tanegashima". Following a series of revisionist accounts of the atomic bombings, anime developed into a grand display of Japanese culture, creating heroic and politically-charged shows such as Magical Girl Sailor Moon and My Little Sister Can't Be This Tight in protest of the blasts. These shows argued that the bombings were unjustified war crimes.

Looking 70 years beyond, Japan has developed into the world's third largest economy and lead exporter of socially-handicapped NEETs. The American occupation of the nation has instilled a great sense of national pride and identity.
