Off Topic / Router goes offline after changing any setting.
« on: May 14, 2011, 02:43:43 PM »
I have changed nothing on my internet that would have done this, first thing.

Suddenly, my port forwarding no longer works.

ipconfig /all does not show ant DNS servers, only my default gateway.

If I turn off get ISP default DNS in router settings then back on, it turns into 0.0.0.0 for both.

The DNS servers are not the default gateways on the router, those for some reason don't work though.

If I try to port forward, my router freaks out and goes local-only and doesn't go back until I do a bunch of other stuff to fix it completely unrelated.

The router is up-to-date. It's a Belkin F7D4302 Play Router.

Also, if when I try and do the computer part of port forwarding, it gives me an error saying that multiple default gateways are made to have redundancy on a network, like on internet and intranet, what does this mean?

NEW ISSUE:

Any time I change any kind of router setting, it goes offline. What..?

example:
Enabling DMZ for my computer makes it go offline and the IP that's supposed to be my computer's gets set to 1.0.0.1.

Tell me of any bugs that there are for some reason. It's pretty straightforward.

Have an admin say /togglePrintGun to toggle it on/off.

hey, look, another nexon game that has been here for a long time.

Mabinogiworld Wiki

Mabinogi is a 3D RPG game by Nexon. If you can get past the lag at busy times, being run by Nexon, having bots, and the various annoying bugs, it's a pretty darn good game.

It's online, so you can have parties and crap like that.

The storyline is set up in Generations (Currently at G14, Romeo and Juliet) which are in little phases of Mabinogi, the current being Shakespeare.
Generation 1: Advent of the Goddess
Generation 2: Paladin
Generation 3: Dark Knight
Generation 4: Pioneers of Iria
Generation 5: Elves of the Desert
Generation 6: Giants of the Snowfield
Generation 7: Ancient Secrets of Irinid
Generation 8: Dragon
Generation 9: Alchemist
Generation 10: The Goddess of Light
Generation 11: Sword of the Gods
Generation 12: Return of the Hero
Generation 13: Hamlet
Generation 14: Romeo and Juliet

ottosparks' money making methods
1. go to rana in iria
2. get an l-rod
3. look through Maiz Prarie for treasure using L-Rod
4. find treasure chest and possibly kill slates protecting them
5. sell your bounty at Dunbarton or NPC it if you want to.

1. get free ciar beginner pass from Rbrown townd in Tir Chonail
2a. run through ciar beginner and pick up any gold you get, also any items that you could sell
2b. sell any items you got at the end you don't want
3. repeat until you need it.
Notes: This is my favorite way to get easy money since you get EXP and also a nice bit of money.
Hint: If you get gems, you can use the gems to finish quests you get from the inn girl.
Collect formor scrolls from monsters and finish gathering quests (e.g. 10 mimic scrolls for 6k from Duncan.)

1. Go to Zardine.
2. Mine sulphur (or flint if it's raining, maybe golems if you're confident about it.)
3. Collect things from the rocks if you want, but be sure you get all the fossils you can.
4. Go to the Calda Exploration Camp and give the fossils to Belita after restoring them.
5. Repeat as needed.
Notes: Sometimes you get items (e.g. Ring Bow), and you can sell these to players or use them yourself.

There are currently four servers you can play on.

General Discussion / Ottosparks' Landscaping Method
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:24:33 PM »
I've recently gotten into terraforming on Blockland, and I love it. c:

I use a method I call the "Progressively Decreasing Size Landscape Building Method", or PDSLBM.  :cookieMonster:
It uses only default bricks, or rather, only needs default bricks, so it's very good for builds.

As the name implies, it involves creating the biggest bricks first, then progressively going to smaller bricks. I normally use cubes, since they are easier to use than normal bricks and count as baseplates.

Step One
For step one, of course, you need to place ground. This can be some cubes or some baseplates or whatever, as long as it's completely flat.

Step Two
Place the biggest bricks you will use first. This is where you'll start mapping out basic landforms if you haven't already. Place them as well aligned to a grid as possible, this makes thing a lot easier later on. I normally use x16 cubes, and no bigger. The bigger the brick, the more bricks you will use to make it look neater.

Step Three
Get the next smallest size you will use and surround the bigger cube with it in realistic looking ways, leaving gaps ever so often, never completely surround the larger brick, it looks horrible almost all the time. Repeat this step until you can go no smaller.

Step Four (optional)
If you used cubes, you can go back and add ramps of varying sizes on the sides of the cubes to make it look even better. This adds to realism, but can be very time-consuming and brick count increasing. If you did everything before this okay, it should already look great.

I'm not saying this is the best method out there, this is the way I make landscapes and people seem to like them, so I thought I'd just post this here.

Example of Results:

sorry about pagestretch

I'll go back and add pictures to better illustrate how to do this later on, until then I hope you understand pure text.

Off Topic / what the heck, computer
« on: April 24, 2011, 01:59:13 PM »
well i opened my computer up to get ready to swap my graphics cards and i forgot to plug the old ones back in after i decided "i'll wait until it gets here"

the computer made a loud angry beeping noise when i plugged it in and i figured out why and fixed it

then my computer failed to POST when i started it up, the first time I just continued and nothing seemed to be wrong, in fact it seemed to run better than before.

the second time i went to setup, did nothing, exited discarding changes, started up again an hour or so later.

the computer started up normally

Modification Help / Ottosparks' Mod Topic
« on: April 22, 2011, 02:18:19 AM »
Since I never really have had a mod topic, I decided to make one.

Since people have been PMing me instead of a more instant way of communication, if you want to talk to me about something add me on Steam as ottosparks.

A lot of these have been finished and privately released. A lot are still in development but have had stable builds.

TsuEval -My first long-running server mod. Like any old eval mod, only special thing is that it plays a neat little sound. Currently in version 7.

Builder -Originally planned to be a major update to TsuEval, it ended up being its own standalone mod. It is a multi-line eval server mod and allows scripting for as many lines as you want. Currently version 2, in version 3 there will be compatibility for editing and saving scripts.
--BuilderLoad
A small client script I made in about five minutes that loads a script from a .txt file then puts it into Builder.

Chatty -My chatbot mod, in the first version, it worked by sorting words into noun, verb, adjective, and prepositions. It was very hilarious. Currently in v4. Now it links them by chains.
Very basic up-to-date base code. -Use this to learn more about how it currently horribly works. Infer to find out what everything means and how to use it properly.

v2/v3 Changelog:
Recoded the chatbot.
Somehow it says a ton of words now instead of only 5.
In addition to the above, it no longer leaves annoying spaces in its chat.
EXTREME simplification in the code.
Fixed the issue where (namely dedicated hosts) could not use chatbot commands because isHost didn't work.
All chatbot preferences are on RTB prefs now.
New default insults replacing the old ones.
Fixed sillies placed in the old code.
The chatbot no longer can say more than one line at one point.
The chatbot no longer talks so often it's annoying. (sorry if you liked that)

v4 Changes:
-Completely redid the brain yet again.
--It now links together words by word chains.
--It is no longer limited to only five or six words. Maximum is now 25. Adjustable via RTB prefs.
--Much more funny.
--Still auto-learns.
--Completely lowercase to prevent any word linking issues due to capitalization.
-Say /forceChatBot to force the chatbot to say something.
-RTB Prefs still here.
-Old RTB Prefs will not be compatible with this version, sorry!

OttoOS -More recent mod, it is a clientsided chatbot-like mod which was made mainly to help beginners in making client mods have a place to test client scripts and also learn from others. It is in v2, and v3 is coming out soon (just a bugfix).

Assassin -A gamemode project I've been working on for a bit, there is a king, guards, and assassins. You use clever or non-clever ways to kill the king or protect him. Some ways to do this are by poisoning his food or drink, suffocating him, or simply killing him like a maniac.

Congregation -A very recent project. What it does is divide one server into smaller divisions as if they were other servers. It has compatibility for adding your own "modes" to it.
--Congregation Modes:
Empires
CityDistrict/City
Minigame Modes (random, organized, rotation, etc)

TRP -Abandoned generic RPG mod inspired by DRPG.

NOVA -Abandoned ingame scripting language, somewhat revived in OttoOS in a much simpler form.

TsuSO -Abandoned stupid project that made no sense at all. Basically just a test to see if I could make script objects.

MiniEmpires -A mod that handles mini empires, pretty self-explanatory. There are 'empire files' (.empFL) that contain information on a type of empire. What they can research, all they can do, etc. Built-in timers, handling money, food, etc. Basically makes mini empires more an RTS and less an RP. Brainstorming lalala...

PuzzleMod -It is what it says. Zelda-like puzzles are able to be made. Switches connect to output bricks through a 'tether system', handled by eventing.

MoneyMod -Money mod created for Destiny/Zack0Wack0's scripting competition, uses events and player variables to pay for services. Adding onto it with banking, business, etc.

Gimp -Requested by The Talker, makes a person's chat come out as a random message.

Landscape -Various landscape generation things. Client-sided.
Current code.
islandGenerator function does not work. Feel free to try and fix it.

prepareLandscape(x, y, h) -Makes a rectangular prism.
generateCliff(diameter) -Makes a shape that resembles a cliff.
generateCircle(diameter) -Makes a diamond-like shape. I don't know why it's called circle.
cloudGenerator(magnitude, x, y) -Makes a cloud layer. I'd suggest a magnitude of about 1000 for a nice day outside. The lower, the more clouds.
Picture of end result after used cleverly:

Projects I plan to release or am debating releasing them publicly:
-Congregation
-Assassin
-OttoOS
-PuzzleMod
-MiniEmpires

Projects I am brainstorming:
-Minecraft-like mod.
-others i can't remember at the moment
-Mining mod thing of my own (since that's never been done before!)
-Puzzle Mod
-reHacked

When making mods I try to always pay attention to a few things:
Can people learn from what I make?
Can people add onto what I make?
Is what I make useful?
Is what I make logical?
Is what I make realistic?
Will people like what I make?

If it does not meet these criteria, the project more likely than not will die.

Not listed in this topic are small projects friends have suggested I make for them and I make them.

Topic where you can see some of the things Chatty says at this point

Testing:
i test all my mods on my own server, which is public almost all the time.

Off Topic / last night in Alabama!
« on: April 16, 2011, 03:09:54 PM »
A HUGE group of supercells went across southeast US last night, in Alabama there were over 75 tornadoes, at least 10 injuries, at least 5 major injuries, and at least 3 deaths.

This storm lasted in my county from ~11:30AM to ~12:00 AM.

the storm of course was also on Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, and other states.

at one point the strike count was over 2000. :cookieMonster:

anyways my town was safe somehow, we didn't really even have much rain or lightning either. just a lot of wind for the most part.

discuss the storm and if you went through it how it affected you

Greenland floats off the Earth's surface and is heading to the moon!

Today at 7:56AM people of Denmark reported their territory, Greenland, has floated off the Earth's surface and will be on the moon around July 6, 2011.

People of Greenland who did not escape quickly enough went into space and died.

Scientists are trying to see if they can get most of Greenland back to Earth before it gets out of reach. Stay tuned to hear more.

Danish reporters have said things such as:
"det er værdiløs anyways"
"hvem dælen cares"
"hvad grønland"

If we cannot get Greenland back, all world maps will be modified to fit with the world, we will have to recalculate a few things in the Earth, etc.

Denmark's prime minister is very unhappy with this loss.

Modification Help / File I/O Tutorial
« on: April 12, 2011, 05:38:52 PM »
Since threads about these have recently been popping up, I thought I'd make a neat little tutorial about them.

Contents
-Introduction
-What is File I/O?
--Uses of File I/O
-Basic Use
-Writing files
-Reading files
-Miscellaneous Information

Introduction
In this tutorial, I'll be teaching you how to read and write files in Torquescript using fileObjects.

What is File I/O?
File I/O stands for "File Input/Output". This means you can read and write files using this system.
Uses of File I/O
File I/O can be used to read and write files. This is done through objects called "fileObjects". Some examples of when this is needed or could be used to make things easier:
  • Saving data and reading it after the server closes and opens back up.
  • Dumping data from objects.
  • Saving a list of words or values.

Basic Use
To start off, we need to know how to use them.

Code: [Select]
%file = new fileObject();

This creates a fileObject and the variable %file represents it in script.

To close the file after reading or writing, do this:

Code: [Select]
%file.close();
%file.delete();

This closes the file and deletes the fileObject.

Writing Files
To write a file, you use the functions openForWrite, which overwrites anything already in the file, and openForAppend, which simply adds onto a file.

Files should be specified like so:
<parent folder(s) seperated by forward slashes>/<filename>.<fileextension>

An example of openForWrite:

Code: [Select]
%file = new fileObject();
%file.openForWrite("blah/blah.blah");
%file.writeLine("blah");
%file.close();
%file.delete();

blah/blah.blah:
Quote
blah

You can do this as many times as you want and the file blah.blah will not change unless you change %file.writeLine("blah");.

An example of openForAppend:

Code: [Select]
%file = new fileObject();
%file.openForAppend("blah/blah.blah");
%file.writeLine("blah");
%file.close();
%file.delete();

After the last one, the file should now read:

Quote
blah
blah

If you do this more, it will add more lines containing whatever is in openForAppend.

Reading files
For reading files, there are a few functions you will most likely use.
openForRead - opens a file to read
isEOF - checks if we're at the end of the file or not.

These work together to do something like this:

Code: [Select]
%file = new fileObject();
%file.openForRead("blah/blah.blah");
while(!%file.isEOF())
{
  echo("Lines read:" SPC %lineCt);
  %lineCt++;
  echo(%file.readLine());
}
echo(%lineCt SPC "lines read total.");
%file.close();
%file.delete();

Basically, what this does is open our blah.blah file for read and as long as we haven't reached the end of the file, it echos how many lines we have read so far and echos the line. Once we reach the end of the file, it should tell us how many lines were read in all.

It would do something like this:

Quote
Lines read: 0
blah
Lines Read: 1
blah
1 lines read total.

Miscellaneous Information
This is a good reference for more information on File I/O.
http://docs.garagegames.com/tge/official/content/documentation/Reference/Console%20Functions/TorqueScript_Console_Functions_7.html

The add-on execution system works something like this:
Code: [Select]
function loadClientAddons()
{
for(%i = findFirstFile("Add-Ons/*/client.cs"); %i !$= ""; %i = findNextFile("Add-Ons/*/client.cs"))
{
echo("Loading: "@strReplace(strReplace(%i, "/client.cs", ""), "Add-Ons/",""));
exec(%i);
}
}
function loadServerAddons()
{
for(%i = findFirstFile("Add-Ons/*/server.cs");%i!$="";%i=findNextFile("Add-Ons/*/server.cs"))
{
echo("Loading: "@strReplace(strReplace(%i, "/server.cs",""), "Add-Ons/", ""));
exec(%i);
}
}
Using findFirstFile and findNextFile, it executes every single addon with the proper packaging.

The function save(object, file); can save data from an object to a file.

Hope this helps, if any questions or comments, say so.
