Modification Help / Re: Custom loading screen for your server
« on: July 13, 2016, 01:17:04 AM »
honestly there needs to be a mod that allows for server-made GUIs to be shared to clients (securely, of course)
one of the pitfalls of having an engine that lets you so readily create and run code is that it makes things like this pretty difficult to secure and moderate

the closest thing you could get is a platform like RTB or blockland glass that would let server owners put up a mod and say "hey!! please download my client mod through this trusted, quality-controlled service." when a player joins (obviously an optional thing because autonomously downloading strange files to a player's computer is not something you want to do), similarly to how minecraft does (used to do? not sure if it's still a thing) with its server texture packs, albeit the way that works is a lot less secure because you literally just put in a URL for the file you want to download

it's not great, but it's leagues better than giving server owners the ability to send foreign code to a client for them to run, and the only security measures you could put in place would be to make things so incredibly restrictive that nobody would want to use the system anyway

i think it's safe to say that there are going to be a lot of unhappy people come mid-november and there's not really any way around it at this point

here's hoping that in four years time we roll the wheel a bit better

i wouldn't want nor trust the president for 4 years of one of the largest developed nations of the planet who has blamed white people for violence from african americans, or gives non-cleared people access to classified information

admittedly, i'm not fond of Annoying Orange's thing about climate change at all either, but i'm fairly sure it's something that will be debated if he actually reaches presidency, if he still believes it or even believed in what he said at all. and i have checked over every twitter post zealot posted, and, unless i missed one of the links, only a few have come from 2015 and the majority are during or before 2014, with none in 2016

if Annoying Orange reverses his position and promises to actually take action i imagine he'd alienate a fair bit of the republican vote, and if he continues taking such an aggressive stance against it then he'd have trouble with the democrats. the smartest action for him is to avoid it during the election for as long as possible, and i imagine that's why he hasn't been so vocal about it.but yeah, he can't keep avoiding it forever and i'm willing to bet he's going to maintain his previous views, though i would gladly be proven wrong on that. i still disagree too much with his politics to justify voting for him over hillary. i think he has a lot of bad ideas, but he's certainly better than most of the other republican options.

also i'm still fairly confident that a hillary vs Annoying Orange election would probably go a lot worse for Annoying Orange than the republican primaries have. there's definitely a difference between appealing to a thoroughly right voter base, becoming increasingly ideological, and appealing to the whole of the american people. hillary has the advantage of being an establishment democrat with fairly tame, familiar ideas, who is highly experienced in US politics and in the executive branch of the federal government, also being someone that has been close to previous presidents. on paper it sounds like Annoying Orange wouldn't have a chance, but he's proven people wrong plenty up to this point. ofc there's the whole fact that a very significant number of people have negative opinions of hillary, but the same applies to Annoying Orange

a four year presidency in one of the largest developed nations on the planet is enough to put into motion measures (or remove existing ones) that will have an effect reaching beyond that president's term. if we have a president that adamantly believes climate change is a hoax and takes action to undo measures we have in place, that is going to affect us past their presidency and into at least the next one if we're lucky.

not to mention the idea of a president that thinks he knows better than scientists all around the world is not particularly appealing, but i guess if it were all a conspiracy then it wouldn't matter

it's fine until the wrong person uses that ability. once you've let govt poke at your rights a bit, it's generally hard to reverse that decision. we should not set the precedent that government is allowed to monitor network traffic or the contents of any privately owned devices, because that means the government could essentially claim a right to all digital information, on their terms, at their convenience, and that is not something you want to happen.

3715
Not really in any way whatsoever. As far as I've followed and seen, the trending hashtag was made in the first place because some black chicks weren't happy with the Men's Wearhouse Spokesman case verdict and took to twitter to complain about how black people don't matter in society and how they're being systematically slaughtered by white people, and it started to trend enough to where Law and Order: SVU made an episode inspired by, I stuff you not, Paula Dean and Treyvon Martin supposedly.

Then between social media outrage, news outlets reporting every little thing that happened within the movement and the convenience it gave disenfranchised black people to complain about how life sucks, it sort of snowballed out of control from there.

Every single bone in the body that is black lives matters is an unreasonable line of thought that started from blowing everything out of proportion. Then it got to the point where it perpetuates a lot of racism towards white people and entitlement for those in the movement because Us vs. Them bullstuff

Nothing about BLM helps the black community and actively divides them from the other racial demographics by alienating and antagonizing them. It is a huge step backwards for the social justices
right ok, this is why i said "in theory" and why the rest of my post was saying "it hasn't turned out well." you're talking about the means, i was talking about the ends. BLM exists because people saw real problems, and i don't think it's done much on its own to actually bring about real change in those areas. it theoretically has a legitimate end goal, and that's all i was saying

3716
I was drawing a comparison between the arguments
the audience was bad for that particular comparison, the only way it could've gone was to start another topic

in any case BLM is, in theory, a completely reasonable movement about issues in law enforcement. the fact is that these issues have caused tensions that have led to riots and violence (as well as plenty of unpleasant rhetoric) which isn't justifiable and isn't right, and in all this smoke BLM has always been in the middle. it's no wonder people doubt the intentions of the movement when keeps finding itself in the middle of chaos. there's still the possibility of peaceful protest for the real issues here, but people aren't going to take those protests seriously if these things keep happening. and that's a sad thing, because i do think that there are legitimate problems that need to be addressed with law enforcement.

obama will def veto rofl
obama can't veto anything that doesn't get through congress

i'm assuming he could issue an executive order to the state department but the most likely thing is that no action will be taken on the petition. cus this isn't a referendum, nobody is voting on anything

no, it's the name for a movement to kill cops
Oh like in Mike Brown's case lol
i was just saying what the movement is about. whether or not i or anyone agreed with the movement was irrelevant

3720
it's just a name for a movement against police brutality, particularly in cases where race seems to be a predominant factor
