Off Topic / How Science Saved my Soul - I Almost Cried

It's beautiful, he's so right. The universe is the single most beautiful thing, and the creation of life and atoms and people, it's so complex and intense. Yeah, there's religion bashing, but he's so right. Religion smears and distorts and contorts and obscures the natural beauty of science and progression. Suddenly, life becomes so much more meaningful and deep when you realize that you exist because of the single most chaotic event - a supernova. The material that comprises your skin and bones and teeth and hair, all atoms forged in the fires of an explosion greater than a billion atomic bombs.  Ahhh. I think I'm going to be a better person.

Basically you start in a small town with a few other people, and the goal is to work together to survive for as long as possible my scavenging during the day and then surviving the attack at midnight. It is a browser-based game, but not entirely text-based.

Off Topic / What in the living hell are these bugs?
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:29:58 PM »

Here's a little background:
I live in MI, and I was down in Hudson at my acreage, hunting. I was sitting by the treeline when I see these forgeters all over the ground. The property I own is about 25% farmland, and they were right on the edge of the woods, more into the farmland, and the most recent crop was soybeans, but the farmer also plants corn. They're about as thick as my index finger and a long as my thumb. They're black, with a sort-of grey/dark aqua iridescence. Their abdomen had little diamondlike shapes running along the side, and they didn't appear to have wings. It didn't look like they had pincers or stingers of any kind, and they moved relatively slow, I think they were eating the leaves. My two guesses are:
They are the female/larval form of those huge black wasps that burrow into the ground
or
They are some sort of larva?

I don't have much knowledge of insects, mostly because they creep me right the forget out, but these in particular baffled me. They're fairly large and I've never seen them before. Any ideas? (sorry for the stuffty cellphone picture, it's all I had at the time).

My PC will seize up frequently, but it really takes a stuff when my monitor flickers and artifacts appear all over the screen. Occasionally, I'll get a bluescreen error about watchdog.sys or my video drivers (which I've reinstalled numerous times). Other times, it'll lock up, artifacts will appear, and the screen will flicker repeatedly without going to a bluescreen. What the richards is going on?

I have yet to complete SR2's co-op, so I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out. I'm on the last portion of the game, and I'd really liked to finish some activities.

You must have all the DLC, anyone interested?

Off Topic / Jaegermeister Tour last Friday
« on: October 20, 2010, 03:26:45 PM »
I haven't got around to posting about it, but last Friday I went to Jaegermeister Tour. Is it a boozefest? Is it about Beer?

Nope, it was a PG christian service. And by that I mean it was Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer all in one concert. I'm sick so instead of doing the whole paragraph thing, I'll make a list:
1. Joey Belladonna returned to sing for Anthrax (their original singer), and had the best stage presence out of them all.
2. Dave Mustaine's hair is loving glorious.
3. Megadeth had a guy in a Vic Rattlehead costume come out during a song, they played the entirety of "Rust In Peace".
4. Dave Mustaine's hair is loving GLORIOUS.
5. During Megadeth, some drunk fat lady was pushing everyone around next to me and kept bumping against me and I'm like "aaaugggh you've got beer all over you ewwwwww".
6. I got an autographed copy of Rust In Peace and two picks they threw into the crowd.
7. I had to carry said album in my back pocket the entire concert. It was easy until...
8. Slayer opened up and the whole crowd turned into a mosh pit.
9. Slayer had a WALL of amplifiers.
10. Slayer's lead singer looks like Lucifer. If this is what Hell looks like I'm totally there.
11. Some richardwad punched me in the stomach during slayer. I would have turned around and broke his nose but I didn't see who it was. I proceeded to go into the bathroom and spit up blood for a few minutes before returning the the hall where...
12. The hottest girl I've ever seen stood in front of me. Holy christ her legs were loving perfection and her skirt was short and she had heels with kneesocks and short-ish blonde hair and I can't even put into words how amazingly hot she was.
13. I'm not sure if it was Slayer or that chick that gave me a boner.
14. Stole a poster.
15. Afterwards we went to our hotel and lurked around for some ladies. There were some but we didn't go meet them because they were outside and we couldn't see if they were hot.
16. We found out the next morning that they had a party upstairs and were bored (it was just them girls).
17. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
18. On the way to the concert some guy asked us for pain pills.
19. GOD DAMNIT THERE WERE DRUNK CHICKS UPSTAIRS
20. Friend used deodorant. While in Meijers. He put it back on the shelf.
21. WHY DIDN'T WE TALK TO THEM SHIIIIIIT
22. Dave's Hair. Fantastic.
23. We yelled at Dave Mustaine: "WHAT SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?". He did not respond.
24. My neck was sore from headbanging the next day.
25. I copped a feel from some chick in the crowd.

Off Topic / NERF Thread; AKA "Back in 'nam... Darts everywhere" V2
« on: October 17, 2010, 02:04:49 PM »

BAM.
NERF is a brand that produces dart gun toys, and are the leading innovator in dart gun technologies. The word NERF has been disputed as an acronym for ages, the most common being "Non-Expanding Recreational Foam", but the truth is that there is no official terminology behind it. These ain't your childhood NERF guns anymore, they now utilize magazines, drum magazines, and even ammo belts.

Ammunition:

"Streamline" Clip-System Darts:

Whistler Darts:

Basic Suction Darts:

Sonic Micro Darts:

Glow Darts:

CAMOFLAGE DARTS SO THEY'RE EVEN EASIER TO LOSE

Weaponry:

Pistols

"Maverick" Revolver:

Basic 6-shot revolver. Hard to jam typically, but a design flaw tends to cause it to jam.

"Spectre REV-5" Revolver

A remake of the Maverick, supports the new extended barrel and rail systems, better cylinder, folding stock and overall improved design. Comes with a suppressor. Design flaw with the Maverick fixed entirely by making the cylinder rotate when pumped rather than when the trigger is pulled.

"Recon CS-6" Carbine/Pistol:

Utilizes magazines, has interchangeable stock and extended barrel with rail system.

"Reflex IX-1" PD Pistol:

Nothing too special, single-shot manual-reloading pistol, only comes in this pack of 6.

"Nite-Finder EX-3" Tactical Pistol:

Built-In Laser sight, single-shot, manual-reload.

"Element EX-6" Tactical Pistol:

Comes packaged with some rail attachments. Single-shot manual-reloading pistol.

"Barricade RV-10" Semiautomatic

Semi-automatic flywheel operated pistol.

Rifles

"Longshot CS-6" Midrange/Assault rifle:

Attachment doubles as barrel extender and emergency sidearm. Utilizes scope and bolt systems, built-in tripod.

"Longstrike CS-6" Sniper Rifle:

Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle, range of over 35 feet, storage for 2 extra mags.

"Stampede ECS" Automatic Assault Rifle

Fully automatic assault rifle, the first of its kind. Comes with frontmount shield and extended magazine.

CQC

"Hornet AS-6" Shotgun(?):

Shoots 6 darts at once.

"Magstrike AS-10" SMG:

Powered by pressure, much like a squirtgun.

"Firefly" Compact Revolving SMG

When it fires, it emits a flash of light to charge the glow darts as they fire.

"Rapid-Fire CS-20" SMG:

Multiple fire modes, pressure controlled.

"Deploy CS-6" SpecOps Assault SMG:

Top-Loading, built-in flashlight, suppressor/extended barrel attachment thing.

"Barrel Break IX-2" Double-Barrel shotgun

Two barrels can fire almost simultaneously, with a double-action trigger. Comes with rail ammo mount.

"Alpha Trooper CS-18" Compact Shotgun

A smaller, more compact version of the Raider, uses the same pumping action and a smaller 18-round drum magazine. Also compatible with stock extensions.

Special

"Vulcan EBF-25" LMG:

Uses an ammo belt, can be fully automatic or manual bolt action.

"Raider CS-35" Assault Shotgun:

Drum Magazine. Can either be pumped and fired like a typical shotgun, or you may hold down the trigger and pump to fire semi automatically.

"Titan AS-V.I" Shoulder-Mounted Rocket Launcher:

Can come bundled with the Hornet like this, site says it's sold separately. Fires a 12-inch missile.

"Secret Strike" AS-1:

Compact pressure-operated, single-shot weapon. Virtually useless.

New Clear Weapons:

N-Force Melee Items:
Longswords:

Claymores:

Other:

Buzzbee
Buzzbee is another brand of dart guns, generally considered to be a knockoff brand. However, they are a legitimate producer. Their guns are weird as all hell, but some are particularly neat.

Accessories:

"Pinpoint Sight"

Oh goddamn, a holographic sight?

Tactical Scope

We're giving kids ACOG scopes now.

Tactical Light

Green Light attachment.

"Flip Clip"

I'm thinking the designer watched DIE HARD 2...

Ammo Crate

Bandolier Kit

Grenade

Tacticool vest

Dart Tag:

Like laser tag, only nerf.

That's pretty much NERF, aside from the footballs or whatever.

Games / Pokemon: Black and White Versions
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:58:14 PM »
The other topic was stupid and made me angry.

Quote
Pokémon Black Version and White Version comprise the upcoming fifth generation of the core Pokémon series of RPGs. The games are set to be released on September 18, 2010, in Japan. As of August 2010, there have been a total of 28 new Pokémon officially announced, two of which debuted in the thirteenth Pokémon film in Japanese theaters on July 10, 2010. The games will be released outside Japan in the second quarter of 2011. As of August 2010, Black and White are the fastest DS games to reach one million consumer pre-orders in Japan.

Quote
A new region was introduced for this generation. The Isshu region is known to be far away from the regions of previous generations. The temporal setting for the Generation V games is also unknown, as it may or may not be contemporaneous with any of the previous four generations.
Quote
The Generation V games will be able to communicate with the five Generation IV games, probably much in the same way that the Generation II games could communicate with the Generation I games, with trades being possible between them of Pokémon and Pokémon with moves that were present in Generation IV, with event Pokémon distributed to Generation IV games already known to unlock special events in the Generation V games. It is unknown if dual-slot mode and Pal Park, integral to Generation IV's communication with Generation III, will be present, though Pokémon caught in a Generation III game will be able to move forward to Generation V at the very least by passing through Generation IV games.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Zorua_(Pok%C3%A9mon)

Features:
Quote
-Weather conditions and the current time are now displayed on the bottom screen during battle when making selections as to what to do during the turn.
-Pokémon now move constantly throughout battle, with animations reminiscent of those of Pokémon Crystal, rather than the two-sprite distortion method that has been the standard since Pokémon Emerald.
-The in-game camera is capable of switching angles at will, rather than being locked depending on the location as it is in Generation IV, showing off more 3D areas.
-Triple battles are now a part of gameplay.
Quote
In addition to the improved graphics, a number of aesthetic changes have been made from previous generations, including an altered battle scene containing fully animated Pokémon battle sprites as well as a dynamic camera that changes focus to highlight specific parts of the battle. Also, when talking to people in select environments, like a Pokémon Center and Poké Mart, speech balloons for dialog will appear over people's heads.
Quote
The games also have the capacity to connect to the internet; players can upload their save file and play online.

Media:
All screenshots are from a PRE-RELEASE build.

I want Zekrom because Reshiram looks like a friend.
Also I apologize for tons of copy-paste.

GOD DAMN MOTHER forget stuff

I was so excited about Rare putting Perfect Dark on the LIVE marketplace because they updated the graphics and improved the visuals and added online play and some sweet-ass co-op extensions, then I realized they made Goldeneye. Now it's for Wii instead. This pisses me off for a multitude of reasons, namely, I do not like the Wii. I own it sure, so I can get goldeneye, but the fact that it's for Wii is such a turn-off. What could have been another Arcade game with awesome improved visuals and whatnot is for an inferior system with less power behind it. Now I'm going to have to deal with virtually no anistropic filtering (jagged lines n stuff), lower-resolution textures, I realize it was for N64 originally but regardless, it's supposed to be a "remake", and lower-poly models. That and I wanted achievements and the ability to, you know, play it with my friends.

I want to cry.

No you're not. Or you're really goddamn socially inept. You hang around with kids who are just as dumb and awkward as you so you're never faced with the realization that everything you're doing and saying is stupid and pathetic. You probably wear black clothes or Naruto headbands or stuff like that, and I wouldn't be surprised if you tailored your own trenchcoat and go LARPing on the weekend. You probably frequent Gaia online and reiterate Portal references because you think they're still funny, the same with your Chuck Norris references, but if you stepped outside your circle of outcast 'friends' you'd notice that no one uses them anymore aside from 8-year-old children who discovered the internet. I'd also bet that you have watched all 3 Twilight movies and read all of the books, or has friends that have, numerous times.

You are not a vampire. You're just a friend.
