The Medieval Youse is a remake of the very first server I ever hosted. (Youse is just a name for my server) The first server was basically a minor medieval rp (mostly just a community build). I have redone it 2 other times, both relatively unsuccessful in going anywhere past a general community build.. This is still one of my favorite servers and I feel like I haven't done it justice yet, I have not turned it into the full Medieval RP I once wanted it to be. And now more than ever does Blockland need a new creative server!
ConceptYou don't actually have to read this unless you care; skip to how to help build if you don't care.* Most of these ideas are subject to change and open to suggestions. I have never done a server like this before and would gladly accept help and balancing ideas. This server will be completely about exploring and adventure. The build will be split into three different realms. "The Village, "The Forest," and "The Troll Caverns."
Villagers will spawn in The Village with nothing. They will have to explore the village and find treasure, weapons, and other assorted upgrades. Once they have upgraded themselves to a confident level, they are free to explore more dangerous areas like The Troll Caverns and The Forest. (they are still free to explore these areas beforehand, but without a sword they probably won't get very far)
Villagers may travel to The Troll Caverns. The Troll Caverns consists of a completely different set of quests and is inhabited by the other team of players, The Trolls. (I don't really want to use bot events, I feel like it would be less dynamic and would feel more like a cheap blockland rp). Villagers may explore the caverns at their own risk of running into defensive trolls who want to keep them from taking their things.
Trolls spawn in the Troll Caverns and may not go into The Village. They spawn ready to defend their caverns, already with a good set of inventory. Trolls can do quests and explore their own caverns, or they can defend it from villagers. (or both.) Obviously, being forced to stay in the troll caverns and defend from villagers that might not even go in the caverns is pretty boring, that is why Trolls can also explore the forest.
The Forest is an untamed realm where both Villagers and Trolls are free to explore. It will have many secret caves, hidden builds, and other areas to explore. May or a troll or a human run into each other here, they are obviously free to fight it out and claim their treasure. *(The Forest's setting is subject to change, because honestly, that many trees sounds kinda spammy)
Miscellaneous ideas I would like to include but not have fully fleshed out yet or would need help developing:
- An arena (most likely in the forest) where players can battle each other, possibly win something for it.
- Other kind of minigames. Completely open to suggestions on this one.
- A "dungeon" that a player can explore every 15 minutes and the end result is turning them into a dragon that terrorizes the village
- Setting the TDM mode to CTF and have different "Lost Flags" Scattered about The Forest for players to bring back for points as quests.
Arena/Gladiator SystemdUMBELLS is currently working on a custom Arena mod for the server that players can play as a minigame. Arena works much like Trigun's, players challenge each other to a duel and they are taken to an area to fight each other. We are trying to expand on this area and turn it to a full mini-minigame system, where players can do a number of things other than just duel
- dUMBELLS wants currency that you win from Duels to upgrade your armor and weapons. I agree with this idea, but upgrades on your armor and weapons shall not transfer into the main adventure mode, it is only relevant in duels. Currency will also not be usable in the adventure mode, there will not be a shop where you buy your way through the game.
- I came up with the idea of wagers. Original currency reward idea was that there is a preset currency award and the winner took that reward. Wagers work like this: Two players who agree to fight also offer a wager. Each player offers up an amount of currency from their own collection and the winner takes all. They could even offer up everything they own!
- I also came up with the idea of bets. When two players set up a duel, it is announced to the entire server and other people can choose to spectate the match. Before the match starts, spectators can place a bet on who they think will win.
- I think currency should be usable in other minigames, possibly some kinda gambling game in the tavern or something like that.
Rules and Guidelines You can help the serv by joining and building something.
- Build on a 64x plate in my server. (You can go bigger if you want, but it's easier if you keep it on that).
- Build something that is interesting an fun to play though. If your build doesn't have some kind of adventure in it then it's just useless and probably won't be used. Most builds' rewards are a Treasure Chest brick. Anything else should be ran past Jirue.
- Don't make your reward so easy to get, there should be some kind of puzzle or process that goes into getting it.
- Do not "narrate" your builds. Notes that tell you where to go and text events that say what you're doing completely cheapen builds and they are cheesy.
EX: If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to your average Click-RP Adventure. Almost anything you do is narrated like "You open the drawer, you find a key!" or "Hmm, the door is jammed, maybe a
Sword will open it" These cheesy narrations don't do anything but spoonfeed the player and they make things suck.
- Give your build variety. Having to do the same thing over and over to complete the ultimate task is boring. Also do not copy other build's concepts, because that is boring too.
Ex: One of the builds literally had no adventure qualities to it at all. You clicked on a note and it gave you an obvious clue like "Under the overhang." Then when you found a new note under the overhang it gave you another obvious clue. Each spot gave you an obvious clue (5 times) until you ultimately just found a key to open a door.
- Try not to make your build heavily terrain based. It's just a little bit harder to find a spot for it in the build if you have to account for terrain.
There is one build so far that has been perfected: Jaxx's Watermill. It has notes on all of it's high points, use it as a reference for what to do and what not to do.
