Off Topic / Christmas/Holiday Gifts

I know a lot of you probably haven't opened your gifts yet, but post what you got here when you do!  Also post what you got for other people.

My dad is like a little kid too, so Christmas usually comes a day or two early because he can't wait to open presents.  So we got to open ours tonight :D 

I love all my gifts, this is easily the best year ever.
First off, I got the thing I picked out myself on Black Friday.  My parents said they'd pitch in some money+ what I had saved up for a new guitar.
I got an ESP LTD EC-1000 Deluxe :)  I got it in the Amber Sunburst finish.


Then I got a Zelda Edition 3DS

My dad got one of these on Black Friday and I thought it was pretty cool for a DS :P  My dad snuck everyone's DS Lites out of the house and traded them in.  He got my mom one too, hers is pink.

Then lastely..  I got a tablet/laptop! (a laptop where the screen flips around and locks into a drawing tablet)  It is so awesome and I'm typing this post on it right now.  It's seriously the most unexpected awesome thing ever.

General Discussion / Castle Wall Texture Glitch

I was honestly not sure where to post this..  I know there is usually a Bug Report thread for new versions but I couldn't find one since the new updater.

Anyways:  I was building a ladder behind a Castle Wall and discovered this glitch.


If you can't tell what's going on, bricks hide their faces when that face is completely covered by other bricks.  A brick from the ladder thought it was being covered by the castle wall so it hid itself, but it's actually visible through the window. 

Just a relatively minor bug, not sure if it's easy to fix or not.

4 different Boxes.  They must be bots not vehicles.  Siba was making these for me but he kinda dropped the ball (or should I say... box)  I drew exactly what they are, what they look like and stuff so that the next person to attempt them has a very easy time and knows exactly whats in my brain.






I would really love these.  You may be thinking they're entirely useless but here's why I thought of the idea in the first place:  Puzzles.

A lot of people make puzzles (specifically, Portal puzzles) in blockland.  Right now the only interactive box we have to work with is that godawful Companion/Weighted cube vehicle.  Vehicles are horribly glitchy with bricks and don't have any events for them that are completely flawless.  Vehicles also don't collide very well with players.  They spaz all over the place and really they just suck for this kinda thing.

BOTS on the other hand collide perfectly with players and bricks.  Bots have 100% functioning events.  Bots can be resized and edited (could be useful for some creative puzzles.  Resizing the cube to be a bridge and walking over it, ect.)  Bots do not glitch or spaz out on bricks, they just stay put and be perfect for you.

I'm assuming these are some of the easiest things to make (especially regular ol' cube..) to an experienced modeler (or maybe even a beginner).  They can all use the same exact coding except for their health values.  It's simple: A bot with no mounting points and 3 different healths...

Edit: Since they are bots and are probably defaulted to have the "Ouch!" pain and sound effect... It'd be kinda nice if you got rid of all that crap so that the boxes don't scream and emit "ouch"  :cookieMonster:

Thank you for reading and I really hope someone jumps on this and pumps it out.  I'm pretty ignorant to modeling but I'm going to guess these are something you could make on a lazy sunday.

General Discussion / Terrain Build: Demo Ruins

Demo Ruins is a terrain build featuring all your favorite Blockland builds in a whole new light.  See old default saves and other classics old, destroyed and in ruins.



Demo Ruins came about in Badspot's Block Party.  While flying around I saw a small hut overgrown with grass and vines.  It was rather spammy looking and I do believe Ephi deleted it, but it made me think about Portal 2...  In Portal 2 you see a lot of the old chambers in ruins after 100s of years.  Then I thought, wouldn't it be cool if I tried that with a Blockland save?  Being in Badspot's server, I thought the Demo House would be the easiest, and most recognizable, thing to recreate.

I didn't just want a stupid demo house though, that's boring.  I also wanted it to lead into an adventure by rigging up a nice event sequence in the house.  I started by making the "Try clicking on the light" text flicker onto your screen and dim out after you click the light.  Then editing the light to flicker on and off until it short circuits and breaks the floor below you.  This lead into a series of Mines that I carried on from the build beside me (which featured the "Ye Ol' Mines".  

Apparently, my work was inspiring B), and DarkScropion started work on a ruined Pong build.  It's pong projectile bounced around and broke out of the frame, the alarm was broken, and it was all out of whack.  I loved it.  I'm_AFK being my faithful companion through the server decided to make Demo Fort from the kitchen in ruins near my house as well.  I loved that too.  

I loved all these builds and thought almost all the default save files would look great in ruins!  So I saved up Badspot's server and went back to mine.  I destroyed everything but the 3 ruined builds (and some wonderful terrain by jediman in front of my house I just couldn't bring myself to remove).  So here we are, and we need your help!

(TL;DR: I thought it'd be cool to make a demo house in ruins, people made other demo builds, and then I started this server)

General Discussion / How to play Rock.ogg

I figured out how to play the Rock.ogg loop on guitar :3  I was not quite sure if this would go in Creativity, Off Topic or General Discussion, but I chose General Discussion for now and it can be moved if needed.

This is super easy to play on guitar.  It's in Drop D tuning (DADGe) and consists of regular power chords.

Creativity / Danger Zone: A Thrilling Novel By Jirue

When I was little I had a crapton of Jurassic Park toys that I loved to take pictures of, so one day I made a book out of them.  I thought about posting this a while ago but yesterday I found some thrilling deleted scenes and behind the scenes photos, so I thought this would be the perfect time to share this wonderful piece of art with the forums here today.


Danger Zone by Jaiden


A raptor was climbing on a electric fence.


And he jumped down on the ground.


He walked over to the jurassic park jeep.


He got in front of the jurassic park jeep and...


He jump on the jurassic park jeep and the people got very afraid!!!


He roared at them in a meanly way!!!


He ripped the windshield right off!!!


A guy ran away and he ate dr. Malcom instead!!!


And the raptor looked somewhere else and went away and the fun was over for the raptor.


But someone else got some fun.  A spinosaurus. The spino busted out of the fence!


He walked over to the jurassic park truck.


He sticked his head inside the truck.


The spinosaurus saw a T-Rex!



The spinosaurus and the T-Rex are having a battle!


And the spinosaurus won the battle because he broke the T-Rex's neck.

Off Topic / Off-Topic Key Only? Vote Here!

Well folks, here we have it.  After many years spent in this community I've come to the conclusion that most people are useless.   How about we try to filter out all the useless trolls, jerks and fad lovers and make this forum once again relevant and a somewhat nice place to be. 

I see so many useless jerks here on these forums today who have never done one good thing to benefit this community, or even seen in game.  A classic example would be people like ßoltster.  I don't want to sit here and start a fight with ßoltster (like I know he will try to do if he reads this) and I'm aware that he has a key, but hes just one of these examples.  I've never once seen him do anything good or useful, hes constantly arguing and insulting as many people as he can.  We need more people like.. lets say Kalphiter.  Yeah, Kalphiter.  Not everyones too fond of Kalphiter, but look at him!  Hes a relatively active member in game, hes constantly doing useful things for the community, and I rarely see him blow up on someone just for the sake of being a douche bag. 

We need less ßoltsters and more Kalphiters.  If we replaced every off topic dwelling useless jerk with a mod making, server hosting nice kid... Then this community would easily be amazing.



So here's the plan, maybe, just maybe if we get enough votes on this, a moderator will see it and make Off Topic a key-only place to be.  I know it won't completely fix the problem with jerks in he community, there's obviously a lot of useless jerks who own keys as well..  but I think it will be a step in the right direction to clean this place up.

You may be thinking, why must we make off topic Key-Only?  It's off topic, why must we talk about Blockland?  You have a wonderful point, but I'd love to see you prove why we need all these random people who do the community no good floating around in our airspace.  There is no reason to have users from /b/, My Little Pony fanclubs, Anime fan clubs or WHATEVER.  This is the Blockland forums, why would we want anyone but Blockland key owners?  There is no reason that we should have people signing up for these forums just to talk in the My Little Pony thread, that is ridiculous.  That's just one more member we don't need whos supplying fuel to a fad that is currently causing a crapton of Drama, along with any other fad that may sprout and bring more useless members.

SO: TL;DR:  Make Off Topic key only because we don't need all the extra members not helping anyone out.  It just clutters up the community and makes it a less enjoyable place to be.

An event that will repeat an event somewhere in your string.  It has 2 text boxes, the first one you specify what event(s) you would like to repeat.  The second text box lets you list the times when you want this event to repeat.

Example:  Lets say I want the event "onActivate > Player > setVelocity [10]" to repeat several times for a ladder.  Obviously I don't want to rewrite this event several times, that would take forever (And we don't have a copy and paste event line, which would also be quite useful)

So lets say that event was the first event in the menu (number 0).  Next you would punch in the following event to repeat that setVelocity event, lets say.. 10 times every second.
"onActivate > Self > ResendEvent > [0 ] [1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 6000 7000 8000 9000 10000 ]"
BAM, you just repeated that event 10 times, each at 1 second intervals.

This event would save a lot of time. :D  
What would be a good replacement/alternative to this would be a client sided Copy and Paste feature in events.  whichever you guys wanna make B)

Our family was cleaning out the garage last weekend to get ready for a garage sale, and I stumbled across the price gun my dad was using.  It looks just like the printer but black ;o



Is Badspot running out of creativity??  Can the printer secretly price things??? Stay tuned for another episode of "The Secrets of Blockland"

Suggestions & Requests / Fade On/Off for Rendering and Color Change

Have you ever noticed that when you change a brick's color that the colors fade into each other for just a second?  And that the same happens when you turn rendering off of a brick or use the "Disappear" event?'

There should really be an option where you can turn that off and make it instantly change colors or instantly turn rendering on/off.  The fade effect is very nice looking in a lot of cases (including the Spray Can) but in some cases its just ugly.
 Me and Brickman were trying to animate a brick but the fade just totally ruins the effect.  We were also trying to make a brick rapidly change colors but the fade also ruins the effect.  (In case you were wondering, we were trying to replicate this video)

I figured the best way to do this would to have a check box next to SetColor and SetRendering that when turned on, would enable fade and when turned off would disable it.  There could even be a little text thing that says "Fade:" Before the box to keep new players from being confused. 

I am not sure if its possible for a regular player to do this, but maybe there's a chance that Badspot reads this and decides that its actually a good idea and fixes it for next update.
Which is slim to none.. :(

I got a good idea for Space Guy's TDM mod earlier today.  It came about while I was thinking of how you could pare 2 teams together in a way.

It would be called Allies or Groups.  Basically, it would be a little button in the team options menu labeled "Manage Allies" or "Manage Groups"  In it you could pare teams together.

You might be thinking: Why would I want to pare 2 teams together, thats why I had seperate teams!"  Well theres lots of reasons, you can have 2 different playertypes or teams working against one other team, it would be perfect for Class TDM's.  To pare teams together, you create a new group and edit it much like you do a team, but the options would be different.  You would have a text box where you write down which teams are allies.  (Example:   Allied Teams: [1, 2 ]  OR Allied Teams: [Red, Blue ])  You would also be able to name the group (and possibly assign it a color)

Then there would be other options like "Share Equipment"  Share equipment would be a little tick box, that when ticked, allies could share equipment.  Equipment would reffer to items, vehicles and spawns that are originally for just one team.  (Example: You set teams 1 and 2 to be allies, and put Team 1 Spawn Points and Vehicles in a base.  Team 2 will be able to spawn in there and use the vehicles)

Another option would be "Share Sorting".  This would also be a little check box that when ticked would cause teams to share the same team sorting.  It would also have a sub option (that would be greyed out if Share sorting is off) called "Free Teams" which when checked would allow players to join any team in that allied group, even if uneven, freely. To explain this better, I'll set up an example:
-I join a minigame with 2 teams and autosort on.  I would normally be thrown into one of those 2 teams to make them even.  
-I join a minigame with 4 teams.  1 & 2 are allies, and 3 & 4 are allies.  Their "Share Sorting" options are all off, so I am put into one of the 4 teams to make them all even.
-I join a minigame with 4 teams.  1 & 2 are allies, and 3 & 4 are allies.  Their "Share Sorting" options are all on, but "Free Teams" is off for both teams.  I am put into one of the allied groups to make both allied groups' total players even, and make each Team inside that allied group even.
-I join a minigame with 4 teams.  1 & 2 are allies, and 3 & 4 are allies.  Their "Share Sorting" options are all on, and "Free Teams" is on as well for both teams.  I am put into one of the allied groups to make both allied groups' total players even, but I am able to join any team in that Allied Group freely as I want, despite the players being even or not.
Sort Weighing options would obviously be available for each group, and come into play for each team as it usually does.

"Share Scoring" Would be another good check box.  This ones pretty self explanatory, when enabled the groups will share the same score.

This mechanic would be perfect for Class TDMs, RPs, and many other games.

I am not sure how this mechanic would work with games like Cops & Robbers or Seige, those would either need modification or this mechanic would just not be available for all gamemodes that don't support it.
