Basically the same thing as F8 and F7 but you can still build and use tools.

Admin only, obviously.  And you could bind your own keys to it.

Help / No Pong or Clearspam
« on: May 22, 2011, 11:01:00 AM »
There are 2 things for me that appear to be completely dysfunctional..  The Pong projectile and the Clearspam commands

I use /clearspambricks a lot and I would like to not have to delete crap by hand like I used to.  I use the Pong Trail emitter even more and it would appear as if I can't have this if Pong isn't working either.

I tried reinstalling blockland but that didn't seem to fix it.  I cleared out my add ons and deleted all the crappy crap that I don't use, that didn't work either.

Anyone else have this problem / have any ideas?

Modification Help / White lines on Textures & Decals
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:26:22 PM »
Well I've had this problem for a while and I'd really like to know a good way to fix it.

I don't remember ever having this problem when I first started making decals, but it's started to really get on my nervs.  I don't notice this with any of the defaults or a lot of other decals.  White lines always appear on whatever I make, almost always if it's a black outline of some sort.

I really wanted to fix this problem when Siba was making a box model for me and I made some textures for him.  It is a cardboard box so I thouht some "THIS SIDE UP" and "FRAGILE" type things on it would be fun.  But the "THIS SIDE UP" one got this lovely white line problem on it.  I'm sure the Fragile one does too but it isn't noticeable at all because it has an actual white outline to start with.

I also noticed it completely ruined 2 of my face decals that I really kinda loved before they did that white line thing.

click for full:

I use Adobe Photoshop to make my stuff.  I've never tinkered with the anti aliasing options or anything.  I'd really love to know how to get rid of this crap, or if there's another program I can use that won't give me this problem (that is free)

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I've never used the Modification Discussion boards before, but I was pretty sure this was the place to go.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

Suggestions & Requests / onDisactivate
« on: May 07, 2011, 07:57:44 PM »
Ever need a door or something to stay open while you stand on a button, and then need to to close when you leave it?

onDisactivate!  Triggers whenever something stops being triggered (heh)

Seriously we need this and I can't figure out why it doesn't exist yet.

Suggestions & Requests / setNoOwnership
« on: May 07, 2011, 03:18:44 PM »
A lot like that SetBrickOwnership event, but you can set a brick to have NO ownership (or an update on that mod to have no ownership)

Good for lots in community builds and other stuff.  Could also be used for events, there could be a set of events that everyone could look at and copy so there is a standard in some kind of event.

Or a small template build that anyone could duplicate.

Lots of uses of course, could be abused if people use stupid but that's the admin's problem.

Suggestions & Requests / Ping Tool
« on: May 02, 2011, 10:10:15 PM »
Ping tool like in Portal 2 co op.

Something that when you shoot it on a surface, it creates a small little "look here" emitter and disappears after a few seconds.

I know, I know, theres already a Portal 2 suggestion thread, but nothing little like this is going to get made from being suggested in this thread.  I know this is an easy mod to make, and it really doesn't have to be Portal 2 related at all.  It's useful for any teamwork stuff.  Team leaders could have it in TDM to lead a squad.  It's useful for a lot more than Portal.

Maybe an option that will send a little "look here" message on the side of a player's screen if they're in the same team or squad or whatever as whoever sent the message.

Suggestions & Requests / Box and Ball Playertype
« on: April 16, 2011, 03:06:08 PM »
What to make
Just 2 playertypes.  One a box, and one a ball. Pretty much no textures (maybe side brick textures for box).  Obviously you should be able to color them.  I'd say an ideal size for them would be about Standard Player's size, maybe a bit smaller.  If possible, sphere playertype should be able to roll.  Idk if that's possible at all, but it would make it useful. (if rolling isn't possible then it should probably just not be made, as it'd be exactly the same as the box, just with different shape.)

Why
Now that I've explained what to make, I'll explain why.  Because I'm sure a lot of you are thinking "That would be a bunch of useless trash..."

Puzzles... Yes!  Puzzles.  Thats all they are really good for, puzzles.  Obviously playing as a box or ball would be really handicapped, but for puzzles, they are the most useful thing in the world!.  The reason I say playertype instead of vehicle is because of this:  Vehicles suck for puzzles.  The events for vehicles don't work/ are very quirky, stable vehicles (like Weighted Companion Cube, for example) often fall through bricks and do other stupid glitchy things.  Vehicles are glitchy messes, they always seem unable to stand still and chatter around, they fall through bricks and terrain, they have poor collision when you stand on them, and just a bunch of other stuff that makes them impossible to work with for puzzles.

Bots, on the other hand... Have perfect collision when you stand on them, never fall through bricks or terrain, always stay in their place and are VERY easy to event!  Bots have whole packs of events just for them (Amade's bot events) and respond perfectly.  They are still useable with the Gravity Gun and all that.  They are PERFECT for puzzles and challenges!  While you can always use a standard bot, this looks quite silly.  It also doesn't ever click in a players mind that "This bot means something interactive that I should pick up and stand on".  Most people don't think of bots that way.  When they see a player-like bot they usually want it to help them or just assume its for scenery.  But in general, unless you teach them, they aren't going to use it as a prop and stand on it or anything from natural instinct.

Not only that, but they can be easily modified in-game with events!  ex: SetPlayerScale to make the 2 shapes bigger or smaller.  and I'm pretty sure someone made a advanced version of that event so you can set wider and taller parameters too, this way you can make rectangles!

I know for a fact that this is the easiest 2 things in the world to model and script... they are literally the 2 most common geometric shapes ever... Any basic scripter / modeler could make these two things.

TL;DR:  Someone make a Cube and a Ball/sphere playertype.  They are ideal for many puzzles and work better with events/in general than vehicles do.

« on: April 15, 2011, 05:20:54 PM »
http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/

If you one of these games, you can help get Portal 2 released early! But don't leave 2 potato sack games on at the same time.  If the meter reaches the end before the timer does, we get Portal 2 early!

Potato Sack Games:
1... 2... 3... KICK IT!
AAAAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Audiosurf
Bit.Trip Beat
Cogs
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Killing Floor
RUSH
Super Meat Boy
The Ball
The Wonderfull End of the World
Toki Tori

If you have any of those games listed above, please play them in the background and we can have Portal 2 early! :)

Thanks for your help guys :)

Edit: apparently you can't just run them you have to play them.

Suggestions & Requests / Minigame Rotator
« on: April 09, 2011, 01:02:20 AM »
Bushido was running something kind of like this a while back I think.

Basically, it's a mod compatible with Space Guy's TDM/other gamemodes.

You'd set up a loop of different minigames to be shifted through every time a round of a gamemode ends.  In this gui you'd have several (lets say.. 10?) little options to shift through, obviously you wouldn't have to use all of them.

When you set up game, you would choose what save file from your saves you want to be loaded, what map you want and all the minigame options for this round.

Every time a round would end, the bricks would clear and the setup for the next minigame in your que would load.  The map would change to whatever you set it, the build you chose would load and the minigame you set would be started.

Also things to keep in mind:  If the same map is chosen twice in a row, don't make people reload the map, that is silly.  So some kind of variable that doesn't reload the map if, for example, slate is set in the options several times in a row.  It should be compatible with all the major gamemodes (TDM mods, Rot Zombies, ZAPT)

also maybe a little option where you can choose how many times to play a certain game?  Like play CTF 3 times and THEN reset, and so on.

TL;DR:  You set up your stuff and when the round of a minigame ends this resets everything and rotates to the next minigame you had in your que.  Example:  Round of Cops and Robbers and RESET.  Round of Seige and RESET.  Round of Zombies and RESET.  Round of Capture the Flag and RESET.  Round of DM and RESET.

Just sounded like a really good way for a server to always be interesting and fresh.  The only downfall I can think of is having to enable all of the mods for each minigame.  But if you keep a general style of build and use the same weapons, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Suggestions & Requests / Pirate Cannon Boat
« on: March 22, 2011, 05:37:18 PM »
Was working on my Pirates build and I thought "How awesome would it be to have a large Rowboat that had a mounted Pirate cannon to the back?"

Pretty awesome...   I'm thinking it could be a larger boat with a larger and raised back end, that is where the Pirate Cannon could sit.  It would obviously be able to fit more people being larger, but I think the best way would be for the Driver in front with 1 passenger on each side in the back to seat 3 more people (plus the cannon shooter, obviously)  Possibly a passenger or 2 that could sit UNDER the cannon?

could look like this :)

Edit:  Heres some pics of a demo boat I built.

Also, Treynolds told me he was modeling this, so we really just need a scripter (providing that his boat doesn't suck ;P)

Suggestions & Requests / Event Remover
« on: March 20, 2011, 04:05:35 PM »
Ever get that one handicapped kid who thinks it'd be funny to hide a soundspam brick in your massive build?   I did :D

I think it'd be a great idea if you could type in a string of events into a gui and then hit "remove" and it would remove all bricks with those events from the server.  (or remove the events from those bricks)

It could look just like the events menu with some modifications:

General Discussion / Pirates: Cops and Robbers. Help Wanted!
« on: March 19, 2011, 02:09:21 PM »

There is a massive lack of these 2 elements in Blockland servers.  Pirates, and Cops & Robbers minigames.  Even though a good portion of Blockland's default content is pirate related, there's only a couple pirate themes that come around once in a great while.  I've also never seen a Cops and Robbers build, EVER, even though the minigame option has been with Space Guy's TDM since it first came out.  I always thought that Pirates would be a cool theme for that minigame.  Pirates invading the british colony and stealing their booty just sounded fun.  So with the release of my new Pirate decals, and inspiration from THIS Lego build, I decided that I would take this project on!

As most of you know, I rarely finish a project, thats why I need your help!  If I did this by myself then it would never get done.  I usually just do things by myself because people usually can't complete the same style or layout that I want.  But with the basic layout of the build all completely built and a few good references, I am confidant that this project can be finished with the help of some talented builders!

Guidelines - Follow these or walk the plank!
I need good builders who can replicate the style of the build.  Available baseplates to build on are Green ones, other colors will be built by me or someone I request special.

Size
Size is determined on what baseplate you want to build on.  Some baseplates are near walls, which would require that you build a basement to go up to that wall.  If you can't contact me because I'm afk or something, check what size you preferred baseplate is and build on that same size elsewhere.

Height
Height is not that important, as a vary in heights will make the build a lot more interesting.  But the standard height is the white building with the red roof (as seen in the above photo).  Try not to build much lower than this, low builds look odd.  But do not tower your build so high that its a huge focal point.

Style
Style is one of the most important parts of your build.  If your build doesn't have the right style it will be removed.  (if its still cool, though, I will save it in a special area.  There it can be appreciated but still deleted later when the real server is finished)
Steps to get the right style:
 1. Color your baseplate at Greyscale #5.
 2. Build up an interesting looking stone base with Greyscale #4.
 3. Create little accent details on your base with Greyscale #5
 5. Put 1x2 ramps with the color Greyscale #8 along the top of the front of your build, equally spaced with about 4 studs in between them.
 6. Put a baseplate (or plates) along the top of your first section (with Greyscale #8)
 7. Make black poles on top of the area where the ramps (from step 5) are.
 8. Fill in your poles with a light brown color or white.  Make these sections about 2 bricks high.
 9. Put a black plate on top of all these lighter sections.
10. Fill up the blank spots with that same lighter color to the top of your black poles.
11. (Optional, do this step to increase height of your build) Repeat steps 6-10.  This will create a second story of your build.
12. Make roof by: Making a first layer of 25o ramps. Along the top, extending out 1 or 2 studs from your build.
13. Put 45o ramps on top of these ramps until they meet in the center.
14. Fill in the empty sections on the side of your roof with the same pattern as your "wooden" floor.
15. Congrats!  If you did this correctly, you made a good build!!
These steps can be varied

Detail
Your build should be detailed, but it should use as little bricks as possible.  You can do this with things like arches over windows and doors, and other architectural details.
Example:
This window has an arch over it, this looks nice.  Notice how around it, it uses large bricks.

Notice how around it, it uses large bricks.

This is a good way to get that "1x2 brick detail" without all the spam of actually using all 1x2s.

Don't: use a lot of bricks (like 1x2s or 2x4s) to get detail.
Do: have interesting architecture to get detail.

Other Don'ts
No interior, no events, no secrets.
I know the above three things are a lot of fun, but please do not add them.  When the build is finished, I will remove events of doors and windows/other things that let the players get inside of your build.  If there is no interior, then there is obviously no need for events or secrets.  The reason for this is that I only want users to be able to get inside places that have objectives.  If I want the Pirate team to go and steal gold from the British, I do not want them to get lost/distracted on the way by entering and exploring every single build that's built.

Don't waste bricks! use as little bricks as possible!! Remember: this is a TDM!  any kind of minigame with too many bricks can cause tons of lag, we don't want that! We want as many people to be able to play this as possible.
Also: I have longer ramp bricks, please use them for your roofs to make my life easier (I'm currently changing all roofs to use long bricks :V )  I will soon DL some kind of 2x height set of bricks so we can cut down even more bricks, since a ton of builds have spots that could use that.

Updates

British Town: 96%

Pirate Town: 10%
These percents are very rough, based upon the amount of builds completed compared to the amount of spaces needed to be filled.

General News
March, 19: General Discussion thread put up after build being hosted for about 5 days.

March, 28: The basic layout for Pirate Island has been drawn (during Jirue's Study hall) so progress on it shall start speeding up.

I host almost every day after about 3-4 PM Central Time.  Your help would be very appreciated! :)

Gallery / OWB App: Old Building
« on: March 11, 2011, 11:25:04 PM »
I was working on my Pirates build and I finished this building and I was pretty proud of it.  I added some more detail to it and a second little side "tower" of sorts to boost the brick count and make it a bit more interesting just by itself.  I thought I'd submit it as an OWB app :D

^^^ Click for full images ^^^

There isn't really much of interior.  The side tower has a ladder and the main building has 2 flights of steps.  I was going for a Classic-Lego feel.
Go ahead and rate it and leave comments.

Edit: its 1,064 bricks.  I know OWB has a 1,000 brick minimum, so ya.
