A fanfiction I made for a creative essay. i hope you enjoy it!
The city was beautiful.
This was the observation Faith made, staring at the futuristic bleached-white buildings. I love this job, she thought, outsmarting the evil that has come over this place. Of course, she remembered, glancing down at the 50 story drop to the pavement below, there are the downsides; pain, fear, and death.
She put all this beside her, however, when she stopped standing and started on what she actually needed to do. She ran around the balcony of the building she was standing on, sliding down slopes and jumping off ledges. She came to a billboard, and disturbing the birds scattered around it, and slid across its surface. After a second, she made no hesitation to jump at the crane on the next building. She waited for it to be directly in line with her, and jumped. Everything seemed to slow down as she arced through the air toward the crane. Any normal person would be scared to death of the space of air between them and the ground.
Runners are obviously not normal people.
She hit the sloped surface of the crane running, sliding when she reached the bottom. The ducked for extra speed, and fell a few feet before sliding on another board at the foot of the crane. She ran the remainder of the distance to a few boards that had been piled up, and used the springboard tactic to get over the barbed wire fence behind it. Again, time slowed as the flew through the air, llight as a feather.
“Faith” She ignored the sound coming from her communications unit. “FAITH” The second, louder command shook her from her daydream, and she landed hard on the next rooftop.
“Yeah, yeah, Faith, I’m sure the birds are real impressed. Now can you stop playing and get some actual work done?” She obliged, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, vaulting fences, climbing small buildings, and balancing on a pipe that spanned an in jumpable distance between two buildings.
“You’re taking your sweet time getting in position” Faith heard from her earpiece, “Celeste’s getting ticked; get over to the comm. tower” She jumped another impossible jump, but was saved by two pipes protruding from the building. As she entered the building, she heard a helicopter from behind her. She didn’t worry about that, and busted through the red door.
“The wires are shaking, looks like a news chopper tipped the Blues off. They’re headed your way” Faith wall jumped onto a ledge, and grabbed an air duct to pull her up. There she found the Runner’s bag. She took it and headed into the red marked air duct. She heard a radio, and thought nothing of it. She regretted that as she dropp into a room with 4 cops armed with pistols.
“Stay where you are! Drop the bag and put your hands where we can see them, or we will fire!” Faith was momentarily confused, but a split second later ran in the opposite direction, heading up the red-lined stairwell. She thought she was safe; then the first bullets zinged around her like bees.
“Just get out of there” Merc urgently said from her comms. unit. She smashed open two doors and found herself outside again. She slid under a few stairs, while more than one voices were talking in her ear.
‘Alright, I’m patching Celeste in.” “Faith?” She heard Celeste say. “What’s going on? I hear shooting and that bird looked way too nosy.” She jumped off the roof, rolling as she hit the ground 1 story below. She slid down about 3 feet and climbed the side of a building.
“Blues ahead; you’re going to have to fight to get through them. She took the first one down easily, disarming him forcefully at the right second. She shot the second cop in the shoulder, bringing him down. She discarded the gun, and jumped the distance to the destination building. She climbed the ladder, and saw Celeste on the building next to her.
“Give me the bag!” She shouted. Faith took the bag from her shoulder and threw it to Celeste. “Be careful, Celeste. They aren’t playing nice” Faith said. “Alright… Oh god, look out!” She said, pointing behind Faith. Faith turned around and saw 4 special ops, armed with assault rifles. She ran toward the opposite edge of the building. She saw the helicopter that had spotted her in the first place. She had a crazy idea. This bird got me into this, and now it’s gonna get me out. She thought. She gritted he teeth, and jumped off of the building.
She grabbed onto the red rails onto the underside of the chopper, and looked around, hanging by one hand. She saw herself in the reflection of the windows of the building. Then, she dropped down 25 stories onto a large pile of soft boxes, designed to stop falls from killing.
“This was a low key job, why the heck were they shooting? Faith, what did you do?!” Merc shouted angrily into her earpiece. “Nothing, they just stared shooting!” She replied with confusement. “Whatever, just get back to base, and we call it a day” She gladly tarted walking towards the door, to go back after an exhausting day in the life of a Runner.
