Delicately crafted, finely evented.

LateralWorks 44 Key Professional Digital Upright Piano
This is probably the most advance event build I've ever made, and one of the most advance event builds in Blockland's history. It is probably first proper working upright piano built, capable of playing real songs using a special sound pack and making up for the ability to only use 1 hand by allowing you to record and store up to 26 keys of music using onboard memory. I have spent months making this on and off, and its got over 13000 events so I've had to do a lot of manual save editing, I'm not ashamed to say.
Like a real instrument, I've crafted this with care and put so much work into it. I had the idea about the memory system and didn't think it would work, but after a whole week of painful trial and error re-working hundreds of events over and over I've finally done it.

Technical specs:

- 44 keys focusing on C chords
- Stereo playback with dual chord plates
- Sustain mode (vibrato)
- Open / closable lid to protect keys
- Clean black case
- Custom grand piano soundpack designed for this piano specifically with 88 sounds
- Onboard memory with 25 key storage, free space monitor, overwrite protection, and erase function
- Loopable playback with auto-timing and two tempo settings
- LateralWorks "A1 CPU" with 3 groups, & integrated 25 block memory

This build includes a total of 13,724 events. A true, proper piano for Blockland and musical fans.

This save includes the variables mod, the custom soundpack, and the save with readme. Everything you need to run the build! This is version 1.1, thanks to Slezak for reporting a CPU defect that is now fixed.

Installation & Download Information

Your download is 4.49mb and is zipped. Unzip the file on your desktop. Drag the files "Event_Variables.zip" and "Sound_LateralKeyboard.zip" and put them in your addons folder. Put the rest of the files (except for the readme) into Saves > Slate.
Enable the add-ons, load slate or construct, and load the save. Supports default LAN schedule setting.

About LateralWorks

I've owned and operated Ascii, MicroBlock, Lime Events, IcyElectronics, and other "brands" and groups since 2008 specializing in eventing. So what makes Lateral special?
LateralWorks is not a clan or a group-- event clans never make gallery quality builds. Its just me and my vast eventing knowledge. Good event builds take creative ideas and lateral thinking. Its about figuring out how to build entire event systems in your mind only. Its about taking an idea and making it work with the events you have.
LateralWorks is what represents my best events. Lateral is where I showcase my ideas, and dedication to revealing the raw power of events and creating some stunning and delicately crafted event builds. Few people have such strong passion for events, and I want to offer inspiration to people while providing some really remarkable and enjoyable builds to play with, pull apart, and learn from. Maybe one day, people will see the name "LateralWorks" in the gallery and click it knowing it'll be something good.

Thanks for visiting this topic. I sincerely hope this is as enjoyable for you to use as it was for me to make it.

Off Topic / i3-370m vs Intel Pentium P6200
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:58:26 PM »
I'm looking at two budget laptops. Which of these is better, focusing on graphics and CPU?

i3-370m 2.40ghz 3MB L3 Cache
ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 DDR3 512MB

Intel Pentium P6200 2.13ghz 3MB L3 Cache
Radeon HD 6470M Graphics Seymour XT 1024MB DDR3

I've heard the i3-370m is much better performing than the Pentium, but graphic card comparisons also show the Radeon HD 1GB card provides faster FPS (although not much faster considering its double the memory-- I think its stuffter than the ATI make in general). I'm more inclined to go for the i3 right now, what do you think?

Note:  This is direct comparison of two separate computers based off decent findings I could pull up of laptops that fit my budget. Please do not suggest a desktop which is grossly unsuitable for my needs, nor bitch about how these setups are no match to your 3.0ghz gaming rigs with Nvida cards. Any jokes related to this note as a result of the message will make you look like a douche. :U

General Discussion / Why are variables being bitchy?
« on: March 01, 2011, 09:06:51 PM »
I know how to use VCE quite well. But is it just me, am I doing something wrong, or is there something iffy here.

Why can't I test a variable and have 3 events for VariableTrue? If I do:

ifValue > <var:nb_brick:variable> = 1 > 1 2
onvariabletrue > Lol
onvariabletrue > lol2

^^ that works fine, but if I go

ifValue > <var:nb_brick:variable> = 1 > 1 2 3
onvariabletrue > Lol
onvariabletrue > lol2
onvariabletrue > lol3

^^ that only does the first two

I don't see why its incapable of having more than one action occur if true. Furthermore, if I have this..

ifValue > <var:nb_brick:variable> = 1 > 1 2
onvariabletrue > Lol
onvariabletrue > lol2
ifValue > <var:nb_brick2:variable2> = 1 > 1 2
onvariabletrue > ohai
onvariabletrue > ohai2

The variables don't work at all.

Is VCE really this stubborn or what. I'm sick of having to work around this.

General Discussion / FakeKill button event
« on: February 28, 2011, 04:27:32 PM »
I've seen people do that fakekill effect which makes a brick look like its a button being pressed. I want to do this in a build, but the brick always disappears and respawns which looks stupid. What is the workaround for this, I've seen it done before.

Suggestions & Requests / Request: Death Mod
« on: February 19, 2011, 04:34:17 PM »
I have a request. On one of my servers death is something that people are taking too lightly. I need to emphasize that when someone dies, they are dead. No magic respawn. I would like a mod  that notes down users who die (to a text file perhaps) and for a certain amount of time stops them from respawning.

  • Death would show text on the screen explaining how they will not be alive for the amount of time in a bottom print
  • Users who die would become "ghosts" who can only move around the server as if they were using F8 (minus the orb)
  • Users could only talk to other "ghosts" in a team-like chat
  • Users would re-ghost if they disconnected and reconnected
  • This could be toggled in a GUI, and the time and death message could be changed by host

This has uses for RPs (a player dies, they are permanently gone, making random killings less prominent) and could be good just in general servers if you want the feature there.

Off Topic / Help me find this computer online, need official specs
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:05:30 PM »
I have an old Compaq computer and it hasn't turned on after damage. I wanted to find its specs online, but its impossibly hard to find.

Its a Compaq Presario M2000. I can find a similar model of this computer that uses Intel graphics and a slower processor, but I had one of the less common models. Mine featured an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M graphics card and had an AMD Mobile Sempron processor. I think I got it in 05'.

Please help me find an official spec listing. Its a bitch, all I can find are the Intel based ones which are not my model.

Off Topic / Find me 5 things, and you shall win...
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:28:08 PM »
... a crap non-existent prize.

Find me a Blockland clan, that is not international.

Find me a drama topic, that ends better off than it started.

Find me a host, who has never banned.

Find me free build, that has never been spammed.

Find me a veteran, who never played v8.

Tell me, do you see the bold text slope?

Music / IcyPegLegs - Hidden Loop [Dance track :D]
« on: February 12, 2011, 08:09:17 PM »

About
Noticed there were a lack of decent dance tracks for Blockland. A few badly looped songs people have chopped up which give you 10 seconds of music to enjoy, but nothing made specifically for clubs in Blockland.

Here is a song called "Hidden Loop" that I made which is energetic and great for parties, clubs, or just playing on an evented radio.

Wtf IcyPegLegs?
IcyPegLegs was a 1 person band made in 2008 for a short Blockland music video (picture above) where I made a small techno-ish song called Nakamal. I now use IcyPegLegs for any custom songs I make for Blockland, such as this.

Download & details
This loop is a quality 1 minute and 29 seconds long, so you can really enjoy listening to it while in a Blockland club without it getting grossly repetitive.

It is 640.7kb in size. Download it here from MediaFire.

To celebrate the release of AfterBlock in 2 hours NAO, I would like to setup a bit of a stunt in-game.

The Idea
People post here that they want to be part. You are added to the list. In exactly 2 and a half hours at 23:00 GMT time those who are taking part will open their server with the server name as "Afterblock.com Release Party". The aim is that the server list will be flooded with servers of the same sort, making a massive "party" over many many servers. Other users will see this and wonder wtf is going on.

So lets go and invade the server list! >:O

The Profit
You will be part of what is probably one of few stunts like this done in Blockland. You will be mentioned at Afterblock.com, and also in a video.

So what do I do?
1.  Post here you will do it
2.  Get ready to host at 23:00 GMT, we all need to open our servers at the same time for this to be noticable!
3.  Host for a while, 15 to 20 minutes at least
4.  Post an image of your server on the list in this topic (if you want)
5.  Be acknowledged  :iceCream:

Check what time it is here! Less than 2 and a half hours to go. :u

The list of people participating in the stunt so far
Thanks to those who want to be a part of the lolzy server list invasion, that'll hopefully get AfterBlock more noticed and provide an interesting game experience for many players...

... and you? :u

I'll be visiting all the servers too. c:

Update 1.2 is out, please read here.

Please note, AfterBlock version 2.0 is in development, a re-write of the main system. Feel free to ask questions here.

Quote
If you're STILL getting a startup error, the cause might be that the name you input is different than the one you wear on the BL ID. Change the BL ID nickname to the AB one, and you might get it to work. Otherwise, ask Sheath.

Music / IcyGamma Clones Elevator Music
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:19:05 PM »

Celebrating over 1 year since the IcyGamma clones appeared!  :cookieMonster:

This is a loop of the elevator music featured in the second IcyGamma Clone video where a man is trapped inside an elevator with several clones.
The loop is perfect for elevators of course, and also great for background music in shops.

Gallery / [AE] Ascii Events Build Catalogue - Latest: Alarm by Honytawk
« on: January 21, 2011, 05:57:36 PM »

Welcome to the Ascii Event clan build topic. Thank you for visiting. c:
Main clan topic here.

Ascii is much like a group of builders who gather every few days and hang out. So all members tend to get up to their individual projects.
This topic is where Ascii members only may collectively send in and have their builds displayed alongside other creations from clan members. Whether its a group effort, or an individual creation, it gives all Ascii members the opportunity to have their work released and formatted nicely, where others can download it. Enjoy. :D
Click a build image to select.

At Ascii, we are all the same. Whether you think you rule Blockland, or you are the kind of person that thinks they are useless at everything and couldn't possibly join a clan, you have as much chance as the next guy. So give it a shot. c:

Help / Why is cache downloading stuff for my MacBook?
« on: January 20, 2011, 03:09:11 PM »
I am on my MacBook. Download files via cache is slow and bleh. Not particularly fast. Yet on my EeePC netbook in the wireless home connection, I can download 1300 files in a matter of moments.

Why is this?
