General Discussion / CityRPG Business Concept
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:03:12 PM »
I was talking about this to Custard earlier, figured I'd share.
I think people should be more involved in CityRPGs and offer realistic RP. I was saying how, people should start "clans" in which they have a franchise, where other members can join and then build the brand of shop over all CityRPGs that appear. You could then teach those in the franchise about the service you offer, how to treat customers, the pricing values. It'd be like starting a business in game.

The idea:
- You develop a brand that is recognized over CityRPGs all over Blockland
- You compete with other franchise clans
- You setup service rules, so those who run the shops can offer a realistic and more indepth service to customers
- You agree on a build theme, to keep consistency throughout the CityRP worlds (but not clone buildings necessarily

This way, rather than just whipping up a store and cheaply selling items, you could create a real quality sense of RP within established grounds.
For example, when I was in Tapes RP, I created a shop called "IcyItems" in which I literally greeted each customer, gave advice on items, spawned items on a fancy glass case, and offered insurance. I didn't just show up to my store occasionally, I literally spent hours just hanging around the shop so when people entered they wouldn't see an empty counter like you always get in CityRPs. This kind of service could be taught and replicated within an organized CityRP business.

I myself couldn't possibly co-ordinate such a thing at the moment, as I already have enough to keep me busy. But I'd like to see people try something like this. Custard said someone had a go at a similar concept, but I think it should be taken further to a more common and competitive level.

Drama / Avoid Paradox, or RelliK's server
« on: November 02, 2010, 02:18:03 AM »
Went to the CityRP RelliK is hosting. It was okay. RelliK is fine, but his admins are idiots. Specifically Paradox. I played the CityRP for many hours, slowly earning education and getting a job. Then someone shot an admin, and I got a few thousand dollars. I spent that money improving the City, building a shop. It looked rather nice if I do say so. So then Paradox appears in police uniform asking me about the money. Since I played the RP fairly, I tell him "I just got the cash, its not my problem he lost it" and the admin didn't care either, it seemed. I continued "I am not a criminal, you can't do anything about it.". So then suddenly, Paradox resets my CityRPG account. My many hours spent getting education are lost. I remove my build. The host tries to give me cash to make me stay, but Paradox has not only wasted my time there, but punished me, one of the few players who were actually contributing positively to the RP and not freekilling.

This guy is a fool. Don't admin him, and don't go to that RP unless you want utter frustration.

AfterBlock Beta Scheduling

Will be needing 2 people to test a pre-release of AfterBlock during early 2011. I am finding people now so I don't get whored by the few people who know what it is later on.
I've already had people ask if beta testing will happen, I declined it but I've since decided I need to get a few features tested on different platforms before making a public beta.

Requirements

I am in need of 1 person who runs Windows Vista (any of the later versions) and one person who runs Windows 7. You will need to own a legit copy of these operating systems, no cracked beta releases because you were too cheap.

- Must be competent at computing, beyond the average user
- Must be able to respond quickly to the testing when it is ready in the next few months
- Must be trustworthy, I can't have leaks of potentially buggy software
- Must not be an idiot, anyone who thinks they are somehow amazing for testing this is a fool
- No butt kissers, or "IcyGamma clone" fans. I'm not that great, so go away.

The testing will commence when the program is ready (as I said, early 2011). You must test the features described, then instantly report back on your experience. I may have to resend a fixed version and get you to test it.

- No time wasters, if I send you the beta and you don't respond for days, I'll be mega pissed
- I need people who can test an update immediately

Do note, the public release will come very shortly afterwards if you find the specified features work, so this isn't a way to get the program earlier than everyone else, and if thats your motive, go away.

You will be credited.

Erm, AfterBlock?

Its a better version of a program I made for myself in 2008. I decided to remake it for compatibility with the later Blockland. I decided if I'm going to spend so much time on it I may as well polish it and let the public use it. Good for motive too.
Get infomationized here. :3

It is not a Blockland addon. It is an .EXE program.

This is not another BC, or RTB clone. Its just a multipurpose Blockland themed program.
EDIT: Heres a better sum up, since DrenDran wants it apparently lul:

AfterBlock is a multipurpose Blockland themed program, that includes games and entertaining Blockland themed tools for Blockland fans. Additionally, it includes content creators to help you create limited content for Blockland and your user (such as the brick creator, the name generator, and so on). It also allows for limited management, such as changing settings, or backing up precious content like addons or configs.

Aren't you busy enough with other things.

Greekgeeker asked me yesterday if I was just being self-righteous with some of these things. My response:
"I create a lot of crap mostly for the learning experience and as a creative output. Just so happens the Blockland community (being the only online game I actually play much) is a good platform for getting people to try my things out, and give frank feedback."

Also if you aren't interested in beta testing, don't bother posting. This isn't a Q&A session beyond testing questions. If you want to bitch about it go to drama and have fun.

General Discussion / Thereafter [Blockland Movie - "IcyGammas Best Work"]
« on: October 31, 2010, 12:12:26 AM »

When Dennis Hubbard discovers he has a terminal illness, the prospect of going through uncomfortable treatment in what will potentially be his last few months on Earth is not a good one. Rejecting to seek medical help, and suffering from past trauma regarding darker times in his life, Dennis attempts to take his own life to escape it all. But things don't go quite to plan. When he wakes up in a mysterious, surreal, dark, isolated world he has no idea he'll be stuck here for what could seem like eternity. With strange happenings, torments, puzzles, and intimidating events regularly occurring, its not long before the loneliness and fear sets in. Dennis must get out of this world, wherever he is. But he'll have to learn the ways of this empty wasteland in the meantime. And along the way he might just realize how fortunate his life really was before.

Info
This movie is a drama. Its not a joke video, so if you are the kind of person that suggests for people to kill themselves online, enjoys trolling, and averts seriousness with internet memes and fads, you might not enjoy this. :P
A few people who have seen this trailer believe this to be my best work.

If you watch it and don't understand the story, here is an explanation-- only read it AFTER WATCHING!

Other Cool Things

- Each character is moved by a variety of players or bot events. The main character was acted by 4 players!
- The movie was originally called "Hereafter" but in a shocking (and frankly pissy) coincidence, an actual movie later used the name. It was changed to "Thereafter" since it pretty much has the same effect.
- This movie lived through a 7.1 earthquake
- This movie was filmed in 4 different versions of Blockland
- The movie was written backwards, the ending was conceptualized first, then the middle of the movie was thought up. The only physical script written was for the beginning scenes of the movie, the rest was slowly developed and improvised, and locked up in IcyGammas head.

Drama / Anyone know of a good server? Because so many of them suck.
« on: October 22, 2010, 08:50:35 PM »
Wow, so many servers to chose from, so little that are any good. Anyone recommend a place that isn't handicap? Already today...

I visited CCA's logic gates, where you create... uh, logic gates I guess by duping smaller segments of each gate and rearranging them to create a new one. No documentation on how to do it. Random bricks and symbols. I had a rough idea of how it worked but it seemed few other people figured out anything complicated either. Decided to make the word "LOL" light up. CCA watched over me and proceeded to mock me when I didn't use dupe an appropriately, and then deleted a piece of the build "accidentally". Ditched that place.

Went to a Jail RP. The build was half finished, everyone was complaining how stuff it was including me. I was stuck in a cell for a few minutes before the build was cleared and a new stolen one was loaded. Ditched that place.

Joined Blurs server. A small RP was going on, seemed fun. Then the DM ended. I got deadmined, along with others. A massive chunk of players were kicked so Blur and a choice pick of uh, 2 others, could have some failure RP. He patronizingly implied I was crap at RP, then said I could stay if I "didn't interrupt" and then proceeded to mute chat. Ditched that place.

Joined Triguns I think it was... Lord Tony and Paradox were there, among others. Tony, in his troll-jokish way called me a friend on joining. Paradox seemed to take this personally for some unknown reasons and then started whoring about it to defend me. He then banned me for reason "no u" in a failed attempt to ban Lord Tony (yep, he selected the wrong player).

Holy forget. Is there anywhere I can go today that isn't a poor excuse for a server, won't have idiots roaming around and banning, and isn't boring?

General Discussion / [AE] IcyGammas Premium Jail RP
« on: October 20, 2010, 03:55:18 PM »
Posted here to educate people on the server prior to or post joining it, and to get the word out.

Welcome!
And thanks for taking interest in the [AE] Premium Jail RP, hosted and built by Ascii Events clan leader IcyGamma. When hosted, those who join the server take part in a structured roleplay environment in which officers look after and monitor prisoners. Unlike most other Jail RP servers, officers are made to treat prisoners with a more realistic approach, resorting to guns only when appropriate. As for prisoners, escaping the building thus scoring a win for the prisoner team is just one aspect of the RP.
The idea is that, other smaller RP stories may develop. Each character acts their role, and can influence the overall story of the RP. For example, a Blocklander "hauntis" became a high security prisoner and became a priority cellmate who was escorted everywhere he went. He would cause trouble, letting prisoners free and causing havoc within the grounds. On a separate story, player "Fate" decided to act in good behavior. She would spend her time staring at walls, eventually befriending the officers leader and gaining access to offlimit areas for more wall staring.... a great way to get to places around the prison and smuggle items.

You will have less fun if you don't have the IcyBot soundpack. It is a vital addon to the Jail RP. This greatly improves gameplay and creates a more cinematic experience. Downloading sounds on connect is slow for both the server and you, so its best to get it manually, install it, then restart Blockland and reconnect. Download it here.

What Do I Do?
Officers:  Your role is to monitor the grounds, ensure prisoners are allowed access to applicable rooms, and keep an eye on suspicious activity. The officer team leader may give out orders to help keep the jail running smoothly. Cameras and alarm systems are setup to help monitor the area and alert other officers of where the danger is at, in the event of an emergency.

Prisoners:   Your role is to live your life in the cells. The officers will let you out, but you'll be watched closely. You may roam the grounds, socialize with other prisoners, dine at the kitchen, take a shower, or look for clues and search boxes to see if anything of use comes along. If it all gets too much, you may wish to flee the prison with an escape plan-- but you don't have to.

Code Of Behavior
You or others may be removed from the RP if:

- Officers start to freekill or randomly attack with little reason
- Officers or prisoners harass players
- Officers or prisoners have poor RP skills, i.e, dying constantly, screaming about things, ruining the storyline with attention seeking antics
- An officer repeatedly sets off false alarms within the building
- An officer tries to use the prisoner escape (new players who are officers may test the escape system, only if they abort the escape with the nearby red button)
- As a prisoner, you begin to beg to be let free from a cell or spam the chat with shouting

Player Procedures
Officers have the right to kill if:

- A prisoner possess a weapon or item that he / she shouldn't, and is refusing to drop it even after being prompted several times
- A prisoner attacks an officer
- A prisoner refuses to move from an off-limits area
- A prisoner persistently refuses to follow reasonable orders from an officer
- A prisoner runs after being told to stop
- A prisoner attempts to leave a cell when he / she is under lockdown
- A prisoner is caught in area 9, the outside escape route

In the event of a major breach of protocol, i.e, a prisoner has a gun or is attacking others, officers should hit a nearby alarm system with their keys (which looks like a floating button with a question mark below it) which will set off Code Red, alerting all officers to come and give you support. All officers are expected to attend Code Red alarms, unless they are already occupied by an important job (such as monitoring a high risk prisoner).
In the event of a prisoner escaping, all officers are expected to run to the offices and get to the exit, shooting down any prisoner in the area or any prisoners that try to get in their way. There is a 20 second window to catch the escaping offender.

Off Topic / @IcyGamma Video Viewers: Should I Include Canned Laughter?
« on: October 12, 2010, 09:03:43 PM »
I was considering working on a newer "sketch" type show for my channel, I wanted to know what you thought of using canned laughter to make it seem more realistic as a show. Something to think about:

- It might sound corny
- It might look gey
- It might seem more professional
- We all know we laugh more when others do

Is it too cheesy to try this? Vote.

Drama / "Kalphiter" Named Spammer Conspiracy
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:17:12 AM »
Got onto Slicksilver555's server. A person named Jetproof was spamming it all over. Over 1000 bricks of red, misaligned crap. He was speaking in troll chat too. I did an ID lookup, and Kalphiter was the previous name. Is it him, or is it some troll who somehow got it.

Suggestions & Requests / Earthquake Mod
« on: October 08, 2010, 07:16:30 PM »
I was talking about this on a server in September. Heres my ideas for an earthquake mod.

- All buildings participating in the game are placed on earthquake mod baseplates
- At a random time in a mini, an earthquake occurs of a random magnitude and depth, i.e, 5.4 magnitude earthquake hits at 70km deep (you probably wouldn't feel it IRL, so in the mini nothing would happen but users would be alerted)
- If an earthquake big enough hits, all buildings on a earthquake mod baseplate have random bricks fakekilled. The bigger the earthquake, the more bricks fake kill. All players are tumbled.
- If you are hit by rubble, you are stuck and can not move, like in the zombie mod. A user must come and click you to health. Your voice chat is limited, and acts like a radio mod where only close people can hear.
- Afterwards, after shocks occur, that are a random amount but lower than the initial quake (for realism)
- Any water bricks now kill players, they are polluted. Additionally, a flood mod type concept could now come into play, where burst river banks or pipes flood the steets. Any people who are stuck and not saved drown, and thus lose.
- All survivors may help the hurt, or have to get to a safehouse. Those who get to a safehouse win the minigame.

How possible is this?

Modification Help / Soundpack Annoyance
« on: October 05, 2010, 06:28:40 PM »
I was whipping up a sound pack. I converted the audio from MP3 to WAV and compressed it and made it mono, to lower file size. I then changed the cs to this...

datablock AudioProfile(Example_Audio)
{
   filename = "./example.wav";
   description = AudioClosest3d;
   preload = false;
};

datablock AudioProfile(Example_Two_Audio : Example_Audio)
{
   filename = "./exampletwo.wav";

};

datablock AudioProfile(Example_Sound_Cake : Example_Audio)
{
   filename = "./cake.wav";

};

The datablocks load fine according to console, but when I made a brick and evented it to play a sound, Blockland would lag slightly and play no sound. What did I do wrong, this is suppose to be easy. :I

Suggestions & Requests / Clearbricks On Leave
« on: October 04, 2010, 09:10:57 PM »
I'd like to request a script that clears vehicle bricks, empty baseplates, and lone bricks of a player as they leave.
For example, a user connects, they make a single 1x1 brick and a single vehicle spawn. When they leave shortly after, the brick is detected as not being connected to anything else and is destroyed. The vehicle brick is also automatically removed.

This'll help clear jokers who make spawns and then leave.

General Discussion / Download An Old Version Of Blockland

Is it possible to download v16 for Mac? I tried getting it from the main site, but it just gives me v17. I need to downgrade for a dedi server, because v17 has server problems for Mac.
