General Discussion / VCE_ifVariable For Named Brick? Help! *Solved*
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:45:08 AM »
Is it possible to do something (outside of a minigame) such as...

onRelay > Named Brick > VCE_ifVariable> Test <= 5  [1 2]

Because checking a on a different brick doesn't seem to work, it just does nothing. :o

General Discussion / Blockland Related Dreams
« on: September 28, 2010, 02:54:00 PM »
Occasionally I have the odd Blockland related dream. I figured I'd write the ones I can remember out.
So last night I had this dream...

Quote
That I was on these forums, but it had the RTB forum theme on it. Badspot was editing all my posts on the podcast topic to: "YOU BETTER NOT MAKE ANYTHING THATS GOING TO PISS ME OFF" in caps. Then I found a list of all these people that were banned with hacking, at the bottom of the screen (below the activate users). The only name I could make out was "TaopeX" or something rather. So I left the forums, and went to a book shop, and Ephi and Badspot were roaming it looking at the books. I quickly fled the store just as they saw me.

A while a go I dreamed of this...

Quote
Badspot was holding a convention at some old hall. I decided to go. I was greeted at the doors by him, and went inside. Ephi was there, so was Iban, Duck Invaders, and someone else that escapes my memory... Colten? Anyhow, we were all standing talking. It was like some sort of convention that few showed up to. Very soon, Badspot and the rest of us get in a car, drive to my old house, and start throwing eggs at the bedroom windows.

Many months a go I dreamed...

Quote
I am in the 3D world on Blockland, on a massive map thats hilly, with huge mountains, pine trees, and snow. There are Blockland minifigs walking around, and they are suddenly dying and falling into the snow.

Usually people assume this means I'm a computer nerd (which I won't deny hurr durr) but its probably because I play Blockland its often on my mind.  :cookieMonster:

Post your Blockland related dreams, if you have any....

About
This is a working television and video player by IcyGamma. Because, Ascii Events believes in making good events for people to use in their builds.
Includes one screen, one controller, a promo video tape, and a video player.

Tech Specs
- 42 pixel, 7x6 glass screen with automated glow and refresh
- Projectile / relay video player compatible with tapes 2x2f in size (2 blocks wide, 2f high)
- One single button controller with toggling
- One 2x dual plated tape
- True 3D display

How Does It Work?

www.asciievents.co.cc

The screen lights up, and it chimes. Then, a relay is fired from the video recorder into the tape. The tape activates. The tape then prompts the video player, which fires a projectile and hits the bottom plate of the tape. The tape then renders an image on the screen with SetColor, and using onProjectileHit prepares the videos subtitles (this breaks the event limit that onRelay possess). After the image appears and the subtitles roll, the bottom plate fires a relay upwards which hits the top half of the tape. The top half then, using delayed onRelay events, begins to animate the movie, and optionally loops it.

Demo video + explanation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JjPF-ENy5Y

Functionality
The Opaque TV can...

- Play correctly evented 2x dual plated tapes
- Render subtitles (when in mini game)
- Has a chime and logo on startup
- Animate to medium definition
- Comes on invisible plates, ready to be duplicated and moved into your build
- Has two speakers, for your audio needs (generally one is all thats needed)
- Runs on entirely default events, for universal use-- default colorset is recommended, colors may vary with 3rd party sets

Make A Tape
Event your own tape and share it here! I'll add it to this post for others to download.
- When creating a tape, both of the tapes bricks must be called aeo_video to function properly.
- Ensure you event onProjectileHit > Projectile > Delete or the tape will go wild reading itself
- Remember, you only have to animate the specific pixels you want to change-- you don't need to re-render the entire screen each time
- The tapes can handle 200 events collectively
- If you need to fire the projectile, just send a relay to aeo_project brick.
- Ensure you get a thorough idea of how to create tapes, and look through the promo tape we have provided

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to add I am happy to post the tapes in this post if you share them in this topic.

Download
Download Here (Mediafire, 80kb, Zipped)

Install to C:/Program Files/Blockland/Saves/Slate or Macintosh HD > Applications > Blockland > Saves > Slate

Instructions
Follow these first before complaining its broken.
Remember, use a minigame for subtitles, and dupe the brick in correctly. All you need to do is to press the activate button and away you go!

Off Topic / The "its extremely abusive" argument is terribly invalid.
« on: September 26, 2010, 03:42:53 PM »
I thought it might be nice to discuss this..

All the time, I see good ideas or addons ignored because of the logic "it is extremely abusive". I think we need to seriously reconsider this logic, but its just bogus. Here are some points...

  • If its easily abusive, there is no reason we can't let the user toggle whether the feature is for admins only-- if you have an abusive admin, your server will be trashed anyhow
  • Everything is abusive in Blockland, the very eventing system can be abused in so many creative ways
  • People who chose to abuse players are not going to stop because you don't let them access a certain feature. They'll do everything they can to invent new ways to abuse players, and there always will be a way
  • We have moderation on our servers, if someone does abuse something you give them the boot
  • If abuse becomes a problem, you simple remove the addon. You shouldn't make the decision for me, if I want a perfectly good addon I should be able to have it. Restricting it over a hypothetical is foolish.

I'm interested to hear others views.

Help / My Server Is Invisible - v17m
« on: September 26, 2010, 02:20:42 PM »
Whenever I host a server on my Mac, after the v17 update, my server seems to be invisible to some. Two people reported my server not show on the list-- I ended up giving them my IP address and they joined that way. Later in the day, I hosted again and nobody would come. I asked someone on IRC to check, and my server wasn't there. I then open a second Blockland runner for myself, and couldn't see the server either.

- I'm on MacOS Leopard
- I hosted with RTB installed
- I don't have many addons, compared to most
- I have forwarded my ports using DMZ, and disabled UPnp

Any ideas? I'm gonna try and host again. But its annoying.

Clan Discussion / ≈≈ Ascii [Æ] - Perfecting the art of eventing ≈≈
« on: September 25, 2010, 02:41:34 AM »

Welcome to the Ascii topic, and thanks for taking interest.
There is ongoing policy change as Ascii goes through a relaunch after laying effectively closed for the last couple of months.

Click here for our promotional video.

Click here for our humorous promotional video.

Ascii (aka Ascii Events) is an eventing clan created by event specialist IcyGamma. Formed on the 10th of August 2010, Ascii is a clan for event enthusiasts and a brand for publishing event builds.
Ascii is run by the creator of MicroBlock, Blockland's first eventing clan (thats right, pre-Blockintosh and iEvent) which was popular in v9. A successor to MBLK, Ascii is aiming to become the face of eventing for 2011.

Ascii was closed in 2011 in February the 18th due to what was considered disbanding by unmotivated members. Ascii then relaunched on the 17th of April that year in attempt to redevelop the group by focusing on membership and community aspects.

Ascii focuses on using default events and the VCE mod, to create new, fresh, innovative, and unique events, purely for the purpose of fun, and to make builds more interactive overall. Other than VCE, it is encouraged members use as little custom events as possible, and stick to the default range (for universal use). However, rarely Ascii will use other events only if deemed necessary.

Ascii appreciates smaller, more technical builds-- but only in concept and design. We are an innovative bunch that love the use of default events, and simple but effective systems. Unlike many other event clans, arrays of tedious events aren't necessary (although that'll get you extra points ^_^). Finding simpler ways to execute complex functions (without overuse of third party events) is something we look out for.

Ascii is all about taking what events we have, and blowing out the boundaries of what is believed possible. Ascii is associated with the creators and developers of:

  • Blocklands first public evented computer
  • Blocklands first public Internet server
  • Blocklands first generator (powering an entire building and lights)
  • Blocklands first video tape player (default events)
  • Blocklands first genuine upright piano with virtual memory

These events have been significant to the world of events. In Ascii, you'll work with the minds behind such ideas and eventing.
Event builds like that change peoples perceptions of whats possible. And thats what we are all about. Because at Ascii, eventing is an art. And we are perfecting it.

You can download builds made by members in our "catalogue" here. Hope you enjoy them.

At Ascii, we are all the same. If you think you can build, or you believe you have good base knowledge of events, you have just as much chance as the next person to get in. c:
Please note:  you must be understand and be able to upload images and Blockland saves to file hosting services.

Gallery / Post Your Ban Graveyard [Possible Page Stretch]
« on: September 23, 2010, 12:52:50 AM »
Ban Graveyard!

About
In Version 8 I was testing this idea. Now with events and all, its much easer to do. The idea is simple. Each time you ban someone, build a grave for them, with either their name or ID on it. You can then event the ban time and reason for ban on the gravestone when clicked. This symbolizes their "death" from your server. People can then go to the graves and, if they liked the player, can build candles or flowers for them. Additionally, graves could be vandalized with spam or horrible gifts, if the person is infamous. If the ban is revoked, the grave could be reused for another player. OR, you could open the grave and pretend there was a zombie escape. Its a creative way to ban players, while enhancing your server, and throwing a bit of casual RP in there. And for those with big banlists, it could become a very neat project.

This Topic
Create your own grave, and populated it. I am going for the plain old boring yard, as seen here with Lesrock mourning over ID 4155.

You could even be really creative with it, and theme it, or go wild with events. Its up to you.

Purpose
To create a fun, new attraction for servers. Its also an amusing and creative way to share your banlist. Hopefully you can do better than my build effort...

So, lets see your variations...

General Discussion / Replacing The Bedroom Poster
« on: September 20, 2010, 09:36:19 PM »
I was wanting to make my own bedroom poster, but it would be much more interesting if others could see it rather than it just being client side. Is there a way to change the bedroom poster and let clients download it, without having to dupe the bedroom map files and get people to redownload it?
