Gallery / The Blockland Show: Necrophilia Fun (Sir Herg1 Spoof)
« on: May 12, 2012, 02:54:02 AM »

"Sir Herg1 visits a Jail RP, that he decides must be a love RP. He proceeds to kill and rape players."

This is filmed in a real server with real unsuspecting people.

A parody of Sir Herg1's 'The Blockland Show'. Sir Herg1 voiced and acted by IcyGamma. I suggest you watch a Sir Herg1 video first, because this will make more sense then.

Thanks to Sir Herg1 for giving permission to use his intro title, etc.

Its where the moon comes close to the Earth and appears brighter and bigger. Depending where you are depends if you see it and how big.

Adena - Ancient City

Ancient city build by Zealot & co. It was intended to be a Halloween TDM but was not finished in time. Here is the build so far.

*Since this build ignited a bit of interest when I posted a photo earlier, I have since spoken to Zealot and now I can post the whole thing. I have not built this, I'm just posting it; credits below.

IcyGamma's Screenshots Of Interest [2012]

When I'm online, I snap images. Some look cool, some are intriguing, and others just show the nature of the BL community. The purpose is to preserve what it was like during those years / versions in Blockland.

Here are some photos I've taken on servers over the last few months. Hope you find them interesting.
None of these photos are staged, pre-planned, or tweaked (excluding the subtitle overlay).

This collection is from 2012 (in GMT+12 NZDT). Feel free to use and / or edit these photos in videos and graphics.

Discuss these photos or post your own "screenshots of interest".

Add-Ons / Russian Cyrillic Mod [Россия] [1.1]
« on: May 02, 2012, 07:16:26 AM »
Russian Cyrillic Mod
(experimental, please report bugs)

About
Client_Cyrillic is an add-on designed by IcyGamma that allows players converse in Russian using cyrillic texts.

"Client_Cyrillic" - это русификация игры Blockland созданная IcyGamma и Lugnut, позволяющяя писать на Русском языке.

______________________

All you need is the client mod. You can then chat with anybody else who has installed the addon on any server! Please be sure to ask the host or supervising admin permission to chat using this mod, as people who don't have it installed will see gibberish and may think it is spam.

Please note:  this add-on only supports typing in capitalized letters and only supports 3 standard chat settings due to limitations out of our control.

Warning:  if you are on a server that has other chat mods, please consider disabling this add-on or refraining from using it as cyrillic messages may not print as intended. Due to texture handling this mod must be considered experimental and it still in testing so please report issues.

Usage
Type ^ in normal chat, followed by your message based on the Russian keyboard layout. The characters will be converted to cyrllic when you post the message.

FAQ
What is cyrillic?
Cyrillic script is an alphabetical writing system. There are variations of cyrillic used in a number of languages. This mod specifically focuses on the Russian alphabet.

What is the point?
To allow for natural typing in Russian. Writing using the English alphabet can be confusing, and it looks rubbish. Blockland currently does not support cyrillic.

Do I need to have a Russian keyboard?
You do not need a Russian keyboard, Russian keyboard stickers, or a Russian keyboard layout. The mod simulates the keyboard layout-- it helps to know where the keys are though.

If I don't have this mod, what will I see?
Gibberish letters.

I don't speak Russian, do I need this?
No. But you may like to download it to add cyrillic symbols to your events to pretty things up. Or better yet, go learn it.

Drama / Daprogs Falling Platforms: Lex & Predator Abuse
« on: April 22, 2012, 07:21:04 AM »
Predator (ID 215) and Lex (ID 177) decided to ruin DaProgs falling platforms today.

The server was great before they screwed with things. The server was running fine until Pload and Predator managed to jump out of the arena and find a safe spot in a door that was glitched.

I left the server to have a snack and watch TV.

I come back about an hour or two later. The server game is out of control, malfunctioning. Lex and Predator have managed to gain over 15k score each in the round. Each time the platforms fall, a player gets a score of 1 if they are participating. My score seemed to be locked from a previous game that I was forced to leave when Pload found the glitch and delayed the game.

I'm not sure what they did, but they exploited a way to get out of the arena and some way or another the server is going wild spamming them points.

Why do people have to ruin good servers? The fun in this is participating, not having a high score. You would assume this was trolling, but the server seemed nearly empty apart from a couple others who visited at the time I passed through. They seemed to be alone, and must have been doing this for at least an hour.

I'm not aware of who Lex is, but I really liked Predator up until this point. There was a lot of chat trolling by various players before everyone left, so I have suspicion that Pred and Lex's actions were encouraged by the atmosphere the server had during this time; it was almost like a 'Annoying Orange' of the trolling from before.

Below is an image where all the platforms were going wild. I have a video if anybody cares that much to see it. It was an interesting sight. You can imagine the chat spam.

I don't usually drama for server antics but this server abuse was extra disappointing because it was a decent place before they ruined it.

Help / Average Data Use Per Client Per Hour?
« on: March 23, 2012, 06:38:22 PM »
Does anybody know what the average data use would be on an Internet connection for the server per Blockland player?

I was thinking about hosting, but we are capped at 20GB per month. I wanted to host something 24/7 for a wee while and I'd like to know if there is a rough average of how much data the server has to receive and send per client. I'd like to calculate a good number based on my upload & download speed.

Does it vary depending how many people are on the server at once, or what packet setting each player they has? Is there an "average" at all or is it impossible to tell?

Thanks in advance.

Off Topic / What is "Adventure Time"?
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:10:23 PM »
What is Adventure Time?

I saw two episodes by accident on Cartoon Network when my siblings were watching television one night.

It was very strange, and very random. The first episode I saw was where Finn finds this weird little musical monster thing and it starts dying and oozing this liquid.

The second was where they find these business men that start making what they do more efficient and taking over for them.

Then I saw it one day while passing the TV and there was this weird entrepreneur le plant he was fighting.

This show confused me. At first I thought it was a kids show. It was kind of abstract and slightly disturbing. Some of the underlying themes and references seemed to be adult orientated too. I've seen people post about it here suddenly.

I don't get it? What is this show? It kind of scares me. Someone explain it to me better.

CrossBitch [HD]

Haven't made a short in a long time. So to salute four years of making pointless videos and arguing with people on the forums for no reason, here is a video I hope you can enjoy.

Loosely based on RT's CrossTalk show. For Blockland. In HD.

Comedy short where a political / news talk show gets fiery after two guests go out of control on live television. Contains mature themes. Discretion advised.

Thanks to all who helped, and those who applied for the voice acting.

Voiced by Raeyok, VerticalHorizon, Swholli, and IcyGamma.

Off Topic / [Wanted] Voice Actor
« on: March 18, 2012, 01:20:58 AM »
Thanks everyone.

I appreciated all of the recordings, the turnout was the biggest I've ever witnessed. My inbox has exploded.

The roles have now been filled. The four characters in the video will be played by:  Raeyok, IcyGamma, VerticalHorizon, Swholli.

All of the voices I received were very good. People should be more confident with recording in Blockland. We could do with more dialogue in BL videos.

Alas, some were better than others. Mostly just in the passion in their voice and how well that matched up to the image of the character in my head.

Thanks again.

Needing a voice actor for a very small, one off video.
Male voice, preferably teenager or adult (no squeaky kids). No voice FX over recordings please. Needs to be able to act out a scene where there is a public structured debate. Needs to have a good quality microphone, and understand how to record clear audio, handle audio files & package them in zip, and upload them.

This is a role with a single small script, and several lines.

Please PM me the following line:

Motivation: You are passionate and having a verbal argument. But its getting a bit heated and personal. You react.
"That isn't the problem. The focus needs to be on the source of the issue, which is not direct trading of those supplies."

Please note the above line is just for demo purposes and is not part of the script.

Clear credit given. A good opportunity if you want to dabble in BL machinima without a massive job, or just want to be involved in something fun.

research project given $790,000

Quote
Auckland researchers have been awarded almost $800,000 to study research.

The $790,000 study by University of Auckland staff will look at the relationship between researchographic movies and people's real lives, examine our views on it, how it reflects and impacts society, and will include studies on young men and women, an art exhibition, an interactive website and a public symposium.

The project is one of 88 nationwide to receive a slice of $53.8 million handed out in Marsden Fund Grants last month.

The fund is regarded as a ''hallmark of excellence'' which allows New Zealand's top researchers to explore their ideas.

Drama / IcyGamma: Biography of an Eventer [BOOK]
« on: November 23, 2011, 05:13:31 AM »

70 pages, 25636 words, 22 (short) chapters.

This is the official biography of IcyGamma. It was written by one of IcyGamma's closer friends, who got cold feet after writing it and demanded it be destroyed. Luckily, IcyGamma convinced him to release it anonymously. So now Icy has to post it himself like a loving oaf (thanks, you know who you are). Due to these circumstances, I apologize if the editing is iffy.

Anyway I was working with a player who wrote this about me after I asked him to. I had little input other than I did create the front and back covers and the names for the chapters. But otherwise I wrote nothing, though he quotes me heavily.

Everything in this book is 100% true. I made it a biography and not an autobiography (which frankly I regretted not having done half way through) to make it more objective.

A large PDF talking about all of IcyGamma's projects over the last three years. A revealing, intriguing, and honest door into the perspective of IcyGamma, hated by some and loved by others, the very person who risked his key to upset Ephialtes, dedicated far too much time to eventing computers, ran everything from a radio and a magazine to a news blog, and created hours of Blockland video purely because he could.

Quote
I was asked to write this by IcyGamma. At first I thought he was taking the piss so I asked him why, and he said that he wanted to have his own 'Blockland story' or 'book' about what he did, like some other players have recently been doing. He told me he wanted it to be like a biography. In particular, he referenced Steve Job's recent book that he explained he had read. He said that a lot of his in-game inspiration for Blockland event computers was drawn from Apple. Even his last build looked unashamedly like the iMac G3 released by Apple in 1998 or so. He said, much like Job's book, he wanted it to be similar in that he didn't want to stop me from writing it my way and posting negative information. In saying that he did send me a tonne of links and snippets over email, some of which I lightly skimmed over due to them being too big. But for the most part I feel I did a good job by myself.
His reference to Steve Jobs perhaps vindicated the feeling that IcyGamma had an ego bigger than Blockland itself. It also reflected another aspect about him; his strange desire to build or create mock-realistic services, builds, and tools. Its as if Blockland was another reality for him. Another world to hide away in.
When I asked IcyGamma what he meant by the whole 'Steve Jobs book' deal, he said to me “I want a mock-book with the same vibes of his biography. In the world of Blockland, I think I may be fitting for someone who makes an interesting read.”
Someone asked me, why did you write this anyway? Privately, I like IcyGamma. I don't agree with how he acts (sorry Icy haha) but I was a fan of his videos and his builds. When I was asked to help I felt honored (but I kinda expected it due to being somewhat close to him for a while). However I feel I should remain anonymous to the wider community, as after having read about IcyGamma and seem some recent topics about him I now realize a lot of people hold contempt for what he did. And I don't want to be dragged into it. To those of you who overheard me and IcyGamma on servers or know who I am, please have some respect for me and don't blurt it out.
IcyGamma and I spoke for pretty much all of November during 2011. Through email, on Skype, and over Steam. Even sometimes we had voice chats, though IcyGamma regularly shied out of them. At one point he got a cold and demanded I leave him alone, then later apologized and spammed my inbox with “<3 <3 <3 luv joo”. But over time, through both talking to him, being sent information, and conducting my own research, I actually had real fun doing this. So without further ramblings, I welcome fans and haters to the Blockland life of IcyGamma...
