Off Topic / Things you did that got you in stuff as a small child.
« on: July 17, 2011, 06:27:19 AM »
I'm talking between the ages of 4 - 7 at best.

Specifically, things you were told you once did (or if you manage to remember them) when you were really small that caused a lot of stuff but you were too tiny to take the blame.

When I was 4 I'm told my father finally got a new motorcycle and I threw rocks at it for fun, damaging his paint work.

I did a handstand on a sofa, fell and my foot hit a irreplaceable blue glass sculpture that smashed, a deceased relative gave it to my father, he was so angry he punched a hole in the wall apparently.

When I was 6 we looked around a house some friends of ours were building, my father told me to go tell them we loved their house so I went over and said that we thought their house wasn't nice.

I've always lol'd and felt bad about the things I did, I've no idea why... its so unlike me now but I was a real richard that way as a small child apparently.
I've always wanted to know if anyone else has any stories of things they did or were told they did when they were small.

This has kept me amused all day. I slowly find more variations.

What is the original face, and why am I seeing more mustache edits of this and other avatars?

I am requiring 4 players to join my server and be extras in a scene immediately.

You will need to be able to operate a vehicle slowly and effectively.

Time wasters will be banned. We have a brick count of 70,000 so be aware.

If you are interested IRC 'IcyGamma'.

Thanks to those who came. Sorry if you lost out because of the slow load, remember the pass and you can be in another scene.

LateralWorks 60 Key Acoustic Pianola 1
Last time, LateralWorks brought you the 44-key digital upright piano with sustain and inbuilt memory. Now, I bring you the 60-key acoustic Pianola, or "player piano". These have been around for a long time (at least 100 years) and allowed people to watch their piano play itself by inserting a piano roll into a mechanism. You had to buy a piano that could do this of course.

The Pianola 1 not only has 60 keys using a split keyboard to save space (making it 14% smaller than the last piano) but has relay activated keys, so anyone can create a piano roll by merely sending a relay to the specified key to make it play a sound and move.

The Pianola 1 comes with one piano roll to test, its Scott Joplin's great Maple Leaf Rag.

Technical specs:

- Pearl White traditional upright casing (footprint 8x wide, 8x high, 24x long)
- Quad Stereo sound plates (4x soundboards)
- Toggle based lid
- 60 keys, water FX animation, relay activated (25 black, 35 white, 5 octaves two down and two up from middle C octave)
- Pianola player with relay firing (accepts standard 2x4x3f formatted piano roll)
- 60 key purpose built soundpack, mono WAV 32.000khz files (92kb per key, approx 3.00mb compressed & 5.00mb non-compressed) non-sustain

This build has no event dependencies and uses default events only. However you will need to install the included sound pack.

Quad Sound Boards
Four sound emitting plates turn mono to stereo and provide a richer sound.

60 Key Keyboard
Using an organ like design, 60 keys have been spaced into the smallest footprint ever for a Blockland piano of this caliber. The Pianola 1 provides more octaves than any of LateralWorks pianos, yet is 14% smaller in length (4 studs) than previous models, making it the most compact piano yet.

Relay Touch-Sensitive Keys
Each key is built using relays, creating a more realistic sound experience. Each key has water FX animation for authentic press movement, and is rigged to respond to relays both on click and from an external source, allowing the potential for controllers and additions.

Custom Made Sound Pack
The Pianola 1 requires just one add-on; the LateralWorks custom made grand piano soundpack, featuring 60 authentic grand piano key sounds using top quality recordings, covering a variety of low and high octaves, an add-on custom made for this build. Each LateralWorks piano comes with its own audio pack.

Automated Playing with Piano Rolls
Using evented piano rolls, the player can duplicate or copy a roll into the slot provided and use the play or stop buttons to toggle playback. Piano rolls not only authentically play a song of any difficulty on the piano, but they also activate the animation to make the keys move at the same time. The brilliant 'Maple Leaf Rag' by Scott Joplin, a ragtime composition from the very early 1900's, is included as a default piano roll for your enjoyment.

This save includes the custom soundpack, and the save with readme. Everything you need to run the build! Version 1.1 fixes a sound board disconnection, a "manufacturing" error if you will-- thanks for pointing that out Slezak!

Installation & Download Information

Your download is 3.56mb and is zipped. Please install the file Sound_Lateral60Keyboard into the Addons folder in your Blockland directory. Insert the files LateralWorks Pianola 1.png and LateralWorks Pianola 1.bls into the Saves > Slate folder in your Blockland directory. Enable the soundpack in your addon dialogue in-game, and load the file in a server.

Piano Roll Creation

To create a piano roll, you must create a 2x3x3f brick stack. The bottom brick must be flat, and contains the start of the song. The brick should fire relays to the keys based on delayed timing. The entire brick pack must be named lwpia_roll or it will not respond to the Pianola 1 playback buttons.
You can use the table below to convert notes to brick names.

About LateralWorks

I've owned and operated Ascii, MicroBlock, Lime Events, IcyElectronics, and other "brands" and groups since 2008 specializing in eventing. So what makes Lateral special?
LateralWorks is not a clan or a group-- event clans never make gallery quality builds. Its just me and my vast eventing knowledge. Good event builds take creative ideas and lateral thinking. Its about figuring out how to build entire event systems in your mind only. Its about taking an idea and making it work with the events you have.
LateralWorks is what represents my best events. Lateral is where I showcase my ideas, and dedication to revealing the raw power of events and creating some stunning and delicately crafted event builds. Few people have such strong passion for events, and I want to offer inspiration to people while providing some really remarkable and enjoyable builds to play with, pull apart, and learn from. Maybe one day, people will see the name "LateralWorks" in the gallery and click it knowing it'll be something good.

Thanks for visiting this topic. I sincerely hope this is as enjoyable for you to use as it was for me to make it.

In the middle of a forest build, sitting outside in pitch black under a green glow, watching a TV spewing static and a shadowed bot face to the sound of an air raid siren, the host Dread, Ghoul, and I became genuinely frightened of the build and are hiding in a dimly light tower in the forest because we are all now too scared to go near the TV. THERE ARE FLOATING EYES EVERYWHERE! Pics..

General Discussion / The Blockland Bulletin [News Blog]
« on: July 08, 2011, 06:12:12 PM »

Project Synopsis
The Blockland Bulletin (TBB) is a news blog built for Blockland for the purpose of news, reviews, and opinion, which can be read by players to inform and entertain.
It is designed to offer a quality journalistic perspective on Blockland current events. This concerns forum happenings from videos, to clans, to drama, to general information regarding add-ons, RTB, or Blockland in general. It also covers in-game events such as server stories, like New Years parties and other happenings.

This blog was built on the 7th of December 2010 and has been in trial up to January 1st 2011. The response to articles is growing, and the interest in reading the blog has been increasing steadily. I believe this may offer a better insight into the world we know as Blockland, and even surprise you with how in-depth some aspects of the game are. While Blockland is just a game, it has its own micro-community where SHEET HAPPENS.

Interesting stories we broke in the past:

BREAKING NEWS: RTB Services Go Down, Blockland Servers Drop
RateBlocklanders Forced to Improve Security After Password Scandal
Its Official: 1 Million Off-Topic Posts
RTB Wiki Shutdown Permanently: "No one is asking us to do crap!"
CityRPG & ZAPT v3 "Indefinitely Suspended"

TBB took a break for a few months after some authors fell out of sync and some mess needed to be sorted. We have returned to service. As opposed to last time, we are no longer operating 'stock market' updates, or any other features that are grossly specific to servers.

I didn't want to start a new topic but the other one is too old to edit.

Contribution
We are open to contribution again. Please PM me for details.

Q&A

Do we really need a news source? Isn't the forum good enough?
While the forum is a good resource, it doesn't necessarily cover the information you need, and is less convenient when you are trying to inform yourself about recent happenings. The community is no doubt good for sharing and receiving information, but doesn't always cover an in-depth brown townysis of events. TBB rounds up relevant information, that isn't watered down by forum discussion, something the forum can't provide.

How do I know what I am reading is factual and unbiased?
We do considerable research into our topic, and often contact the people involved to get better backgrounds on stories. We present the information we find. For those concerned, all interviews conducted are archived and quotes are written out word for word.
TBB does not tolerate bias, and will not write a story if it poses an extreme conflict of interest. News articles are kept separate from review and opinion. We follow general journalism practices used globally.

I have a concern about the content published, what can I do?
TBB will receive and investigate all complaints, taking every message very seriously. Please contact Sheath on the forums via PM, I almost always ignore emails, and don't bitch in the comments form about the site if its unrelated to the article.

The link
Was thinking of buying a proper domain but the blogspot one worked for long enough, so a co.cc in comparison is fine. Who gives, just read the site lelel.

Suggestions & Requests / Realistic Damage Mod
« on: July 04, 2011, 07:10:03 AM »
I am in need of a mod that causes realistic damage.

Basically, I need a server-side script that destroys any brick that is fake-killed. This is so weapon and explosion damage actually damages a build. I've wanted this for a while to create realism with weapons, its quite core to an RP thing I'm wanting to do soon.

Would really appreciate it if someone could program it. I don't know much about Torque, but surely there is some way to detect a fakekilled brick and delete it after its run its animation?

EDIT: Might be best to reserve it to mini-game if including all bricks to stop abuse.

Off Topic / A fact about Roblox
« on: June 07, 2011, 06:40:08 AM »

Did you know....

If every single account registered on Roblox was owned by an individual from New Zealand, roughly 92% of the country would play the game.

Just sayin'.

There are roughly 4 million accounts on Roblox, and New Zealand has a population of 4.3 millionish.

Drama / "Can I Have Your Key"
« on: June 06, 2011, 10:04:23 PM »
Blockaium is usually pretty cool, but after telling him yesterday I was going to be online less, he randomly sends me an IRC with the following...

For some reason, he got the wrong impression when I told him I wasn't going to be hosting much or visiting servers. "If I don't play anymore"? UH, why do you think I'm on IRC in the first place. Jeez.

I can't believe the nerve of him. Of course, my answer with a big fat GTFO. MAH KEY BISH, I'm still playing BL.

Has this ever happened to anyone else before?

Drama / Boltster: An obsession with IcyGamma
« on: May 02, 2011, 01:18:25 AM »
Boltster, already pinged in the past for being un-necessarily hateful, has been on my case ever since he joined for no apparent reason. I've never done anything directly rude towards him, in fact the last time I met him was in-game in 2008 and our interaction was very healthy.

I have no clue why he insists to be so hateful towards me; he was never around during my douchey moments and from day one after making an alt he has been hounding my where ever I post, trying to bring down my topics and cause me to get angry randomly. He spends extra time responding to my posts.

He said his behaviour was the result of not wanting to step on egg shells anymore; in other words, he is spewing out hate in an exercise of free will. I find that, from him at least, almost all of it is un-deserving, often trying to bang on about my ego in a hypocritical fashion, or slagging off anything I make or dedicate time to in pure bias.

Jaydee was completely right in what he said to begin with. He's not being condescending, you are. Take it to drama if you feel you've got that much of a case against him.
Boltster trying to blame me for being condescending randomly after I accused someone else of being patronizing. This might seem perfectly reasonable, but he regularly appears trying to mediate what I say or find a problem with it. He always tries extra hard to disagree with me and oppose what I post.

Holy stuff just get over it.
You made the website as a juvenile protest, and now you're not willing to face the music. You brought this on yourself.
Boltster trying to imply I am protesting about a ban on RTB, even though I made it clear I didn't care. Often twisting context of what I post or intentionally writing things that aren't true to engage in a fight.

Quote from: ßoltster
But if someone makes it before him, he might loose precious publicity! Secrecy is imperative!
Boltster trying to enrage me when I was simply asking for someone to help program a mod for me, with details I innocently didn't want to release to everyone at the time. The topic was orderly but he had to jump in and try to derail it with an unfounded insult.

It might not look like much when I quote it, but its quite hard to quote since most of it ends up in arguments that are only understandable when in context with the topic. The point still stands, and I know I'm not the only one who has been put on Boltster's baseless hate list.

Like, what? Why am I the target of his constant drama loving. He seems to side with a bunch of major douches on the forum and takes it out on everyone else who, if not for his random acts of anger, would have probably appreciated his return to the forum. He tried to brush it off saying I was confusing being targeted with having engagement with him, but I virtually never engage in arguments with him and often avoid responding to his posts until he starts being aggressive towards me, its always him and his strange obsession with starting stuff with me... :c

I do retaliate to what he says and I can be cruel in response. But, if you view any conversation between Boltster and I, you'll see it almost always starts with Boltster being an angry moron.

I don't care if he doesn't like me, but why Boltster do you have to harass me where ever I post. Why did you have to allegedly chase Yndaaa out of the forum. That is not normal, even for the people who are generally bewbs on this forum. You have issues. :I

This isn't your forum. I know you like to walk around like you are superior king who can say whatever he likes, but you are clearly trying hard to look like an Internet tough guy. Major fail.

Off Topic / Converting .VRO [Solved]
« on: April 20, 2011, 01:19:10 AM »
I have a 100 megabyte VRO file from a handheld DVD video recorder on minidisc. Tried converting with VLC on my Mac, the output loses some of the video and the audio is horribly out of sync too. Want to know if there are any free programs for Mac or Windows that allow me to convert VRO to MP4 or perhaps MOV.

You all have a reason to mock New Zealand now, for a legitimate reason.

The Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill bans file sharing. It would allow copyright owners to ask for a six-month suspension of the internet accounts of those who repeatedly infringe.

Now I don't know if I am just reading this wrong, but it looks like our government is trying to pass through stupid laws everyone opposes by using the earthquake in Christchurch as some sort of excuse. If I read correctly, the political morons have decided that file sharing should be banned... I don't know exactly what they define by file sharing, but it sounds to me like uploading and downloading individual files from file hosting websites will be made illegal now..

I don't even...
