Generally, reinstalling Blockland solves this problem.

Help / Re: Where can I find how to make a dedicated server?
« on: August 24, 2010, 06:37:49 PM »
On Windows, run C:\Blockland\dedicated.bat. On a Mac, run /Applications/Blockland v16/dedicated.command. When you have the dedicated server running, you can run Blockland by running Blockland.exe or Blockland.app in that same folder.

Are you sure you have Blockland installed to your desktop? You probably just have a short cut on your desktop. Try either C:\Blockland\Blockland.exe -mod editor or C:\Program Files\Blockland\Blockland.exe -mod editor

Help / Re: How to not be called a noob

Get out.
I'm just trying to help the people who are new to Blockland. When I first started, people called me a noob for not having those add-ons on my server.

Help / How to not be called a noob
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:15:53 PM »
Hi, everyone. This is meant to be a tutorial on not being called a noob while playing Blockland. First, here are a few add-ons that you should have enabled if you want to be taken seriously:

1. RTB - a "system" that adds lots of convenience to the game, e.g. more server control in game and an IRC channel for users
2. JVS Content, JVS Door Pack 0, JVS Door Pack 1 - JVS is a collection of doors that everyone has and everyone needs
3. Duplicator - The duplicator allows you to duplicate bricks to make building large structures much easier.

Of course, if you're an amazing builder like Badspot, you don't need add-ons, but I suggest that you at least have those three. Many people who are called noobs, however, do not host servers. Here are some tips for not being called a noob on other people's servers:
1. Be patient.
2. Don't build in all red.
3. Change your name from BlockHead.
4. Change your avatar.
5. Try not to build boxes. Always put windows in buildings and don't make them too square.
6. Do not ask for admin. People always get annoyed by that and it will likely get you banned.
7. Do not go around shrinking lots of people with the shrink ray or "horsing" lots of people with the horse ray.
8. Only have one vehicle spawn and make it invisable (No rendering, no collision, no ray casting)
9. Don't purposefully crash into people.

Hope this helps

Help / Re: Dedicated Wha?
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:07:13 PM »
This usually happens when you have an add-on that unsuccessfully tries to re-define a Blockland function. Try disabling all add-ons but the ones that come with Blockland.

Also, when you start a dedicated server, it will be on Bedroom. To change it from bedroom, press Ctrl-A and click Change Map to select your map. Also, RTB is helpful for changing the server info and the dedicated loader is helpful for loading saved bricks faster.

One more thing. You should definately buy the full Blockland. The game is extremely open and has lots of possibilities. Buying Blockland was the best $20 I ever spent. Also, there a few add-ons that you should download upon getting Blockland that everyone has:

Also, here are a few tips to keep from being called a noob:
1. Be patient.
2. Don't build in all red.
3. Change your name from BlockHead.
4. Change your avatar.
5. Try not to build boxes. Always put windows in buildings and don't make them too square.
6. Do not ask for admin. People always get annoyed by that and it will likely get you banned.

Hope this helps

ok, is there any topic that you can link me to so I can learn a little bit more about the events?  I would love to find out how to script!
Scripting is very different from eventing. Eventing is when you apply actions to a brick that will happen when certain other actions happen. Scripting is creating an add-on with TorqueScript, the language used by Blockland's game engine (Torque), that people can download to enhance their gameplay.

Here's how to make lava:
1. Create a baseplate and paint it red.
2. (Optional) Paint the brick with the Blink FX paint (far right of paint pallete).
3. Click on the brick with the wrench tool.
4. Click the "Events" button.
5. Enter the following events:
    a.
  • onPlayerTouch>Player>BurnPlayer>3

    b. [3] onPlayerTouch>Player>Kill
6. Click OK and you have a working lava brick!

Help / Re: Graphics card issues

Have you restarted your computer? If not, my only other thought is to install the graphics drivers that came with your computer or graphics card.
