Your ISP was likely talking about megaBITS per second. 5-6 megabits per second = 625-750 kilobytes per second, which is congruent with those speed test results. No ISP that I know of uses Megabytes per second to rank their connection speed because megabits sound like a larger number.

speedtest uses megabits/second.
