I have a TV by Samsung. Samsung often has an 'enhancement' feature that when the majority of the picture is darker, it makes the backlight less bright and decreases contrast. You should be able to turn it off. Hope that helped. lol.
How do I turn it off?

It might just be your eyes not used to the darkness (or something) so you start to see things darker
