Suggestions & Requests / Church build needed
« on: October 22, 2011, 04:59:33 PM »
Title pretty much says it all.
I'm looking for a big-ass church (cathedral), but I can't be bothered to build one right now. It needs to be really big (preferably 48+ studs wide and 30+ bricks high). I looked on the forums, but I couldn't find a save. Could someone be kind enough to share his build with me/link me to a publically released save?

Help / Music Packaging?
« on: September 30, 2011, 10:43:07 AM »
Is it possible to package several music-files (.ogg) to a zip, kinda like for sounds/prints/other addons?
I want to include many ambient files into a zip, so that I don't have to select each and every one of them individually before starting a game.

Gallery / "The Aristocrat" - evented harpsichord!
« on: September 18, 2011, 04:13:25 PM »

One of the most magnificent instruments ever is now available for Blockland!

Get out the powdered wigs and monocles, gentlemen!

About the harpsichord: The harpsichord is the piano's older brother, and was used from the late renaissance untill the end of the baroque era. Prominent composers for the harpsichord include J.S. Bach and Antonio Vivaldi. Harpsichords have a different sound than pianos, mainly because the strings are plucked instead of hammered, kind of like on a guitar. That gives the harpsichord a much sharper sound than the piano.

About this particular instument: We in King Leo Instruments always seek to deliver high quality instruments. This instrument is therefore carefully built to meet our custumers needs:

  • Modeled after a french harpsichord from around 1750. This includes a beautiful casing in black wood with golden linings, red velvet on the inside of the case and around the manuals, and inverted keys.

  • Two manuals for easier playing. The lower manual ranges from C2 to C5. The upper manual ranges from C4 to C7. The overlap allows for easier switching between the two manuals.

  • Chord-mode: Play chords with only one finger! Select Major/Minor or Single-Note-mode with the built-in buttons.

Pianola function:
The harpsichord also comes with a pianola-like function. This means that it can play classical masterpieces by itself while you sit and enjoy a lovely cup of tea.
The harpsichord comes with 15 pieces of music for your listening pleasure: (click the links to listen to audio samples)

   - J.S. Bach: Prelude no.2 in C minor, from The Well Tempered Clavier (BWV 847)

    - J.S. Bach: Prelude no.15 in G major, from The Well Tempered Clavier (BWV 860)

    - J.S. Bach: Bourree in E minor (BWV 996)

   - J.S. Bach: Prelude in D minor, from "Klavierbüchlein" (BWV 926)

    - J.S. Bach: Variation no.1 from the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988)

   - J.S. Bach: Little prelude in C minor, from "Six Little Preludes" (BWV 934) (certainly not for morons!)

   - J.S. Bach: Invention no.13 in A minor (BWV 784)

    - Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 14, 1st mvt. AKA "Moonlight Sonata"

    - Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 9, final mvt. AKA "Ode To Joy"

    - Joseph Haydn: Symphony no. 88, final mvt.

    - Francois Couperin: Le Tic-Toc-Choc ou Les Maillotins

... among with a couple of not-so-classical tracks by Metallica, Billy Joel and King Leo.

So, what does this cost, you ask? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Just click the download link below, and you're ready!

 Except for the soundpack (which is included), no additional addons are needed.

Download!

Feel free to give constructive criticism!

Help / High datablock count = lag ?
« on: September 14, 2011, 02:32:31 PM »
Title says pretty much it. I'm wondering if having a lot of datablocks will lag your server more than having less datablocks enabled.

I'm building something quite big, but I want to keep the brickcount low. So I was thinking about using many additional brickpacks to achieve that. Instead of using 2 5hight bricks, I would download a 10hight brick, for example.

Off Topic / At least 91 people killed after amok-run in Oslo
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:34:42 AM »
A friend just told me that a bomb has exploded in Oslo, the capitol of Norway. According to the news, a carbomb (or several) exploded on Regjeringskvartalet. Thats the political center of Norway, cause all the branches of the government are situated here. The number of wounded and killed are uncertain, but many people have been confirmed killed already. The bomb broke windows up to 2 km from the initial explosion.

Norway has never been target for terrorists before. No terrorist organization has claimed the attack as their own.

watch a video of the atfermath here: http://www.nrk.no/video/store_materielle_skader/6073854C1A446E1A/

This is very tragic. I'll hope all my friends are okay, and that the number of wounded stays as low as possible. Let's all send some thoughts to the wounded and killed ones. For those of you who are religious, add a little word for them in your prayers, will ya?

Suggestions & Requests / change pitch of music using /settimescale
« on: July 13, 2011, 12:07:44 PM »
When using the /settimescale command, all sounds on the server change speed and pitch. So I thought: Is it possible to use the /settimescale command to create an event that changes the pitch of music on a musicbrick?

Suggestions & Requests / Event with key inputs
« on: July 10, 2011, 06:19:10 PM »
I recently wanted to event something with a lot of different triggers on different bricks. Specifically a piano. It is kinda hard to use the mouse to click the different tangents, so I wondered if it was possible to remake it somehow. I came up with this idea:

On a trigger, let's say "onActivate", the player freezes and the key configuration locks. A message appears on the screen saying: "You are now in keyboard mode. Press Q (reconfigurable through RTB or something) to snap out of keyboard mode."

Then, you could use an event called "onKeyPressed -> [(scrolldown menu with all available keys except the one needed to snap out of keyboard mode (Q))]" to remap all keys on your keyboard to do certain things through events. Let me give you an example of how this would work, in this case with the piano:

0. onActivate -> self -> StartKeyboardMode [1
1. onKeyPressed -> ["A"] -> self -> playsound [C4]
2. onKeyPressed -> ["S"] -> self -> playsound [CS4]
3. onKeyPressed -> ["D"] -> self -> playsound [D4]
4. onKeyPressed -> ["F"] -> self -> playsound [DS4]
5. onKeyPressed -> ["G"] -> self -> playsound [E4]
6. onKeyPressed -> ["H"] -> self -> playsound [F4]
etc.

While KeyboardMode is activated, the keys cause some event to happen, instead of what they would normally do (ie. ASD wouldn't cause the player to move). This might require some new, static playertype.

Why would BL need such events? Like shown above, this could be used to create event based instruments. It would also become handy for making event based arcade games or advanced password-protected builds.

I don't know if this is possible, but I think it can be done somehow with new playertypes. Do you think this is a good idea? Did you even understand what I asked for? :P

Help / While mousefire
« on: July 10, 2011, 05:47:30 AM »
Is there any way to simulate a "onActivate -> while mousefire == 1 -> output" with events?
I want to make something like this:
0
  • onActivate -> self -> setmusic [something]

1
  • onActivate -> whilemousefire == 1 -> [2 3]

2
  • whiletrue -> do nothing

3
  • whilefalse -> self -> setmusic [NONE]

I know there's a mix between brick and client, but I hope you get the idea.
Is there any way to do this with variables, relays or elsehow?

Gallery / "Rialto bridge" and "Il Campanile di San Marco"
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:14:13 AM »
I think BL has too few famous landmarks, so I decided to rebuild two semi-famous landmarks from Venice; the Rialto bridge and St. Marks belltower.
Here are some pics:

Ponte di Rialto:

Il Campanile di San Marco:

The tower turned out too small, in my opinion, so I built it bigger:

Feel free to give critCIAm and/or rate X/10.

Also: what other landmarks do you think should be rebuilt for Blockland?

Gallery / The Maestro - now with 100% more saves
« on: May 25, 2011, 11:21:30 AM »
Are you tired of small, boring, musical instruments?

Do you want to use your creativity to make music on an evented instrument inside a game, instead of playing the real deal? (which is much easier)

Then this might be the solution!!:

King Leo Instruments presents:

The maestro

This is my most recent creation. It's a full-size (maybe a bit too large :D) keyboard with 4 full octaves (C2 to C6).The piano is fully functional and comes with a number of features:

Features:
- Comes with a record feature. Record your playing! The current piano can store 32 notes, but this can easily be expanded to 128, if the customer wants it. (I think 32 notes is more than enough for the average user :P)

- Listen to your record with the built-in playback feature! Jupp, not much to say here.

- Choose between 5 different playback speeds. Again, this can be modified if wanted. Playback currently only supports full beats (4 notes if the time signature is 4/4)

- A lid to protect the keys.

- For all you lazy folks out there: Chord mode! Play Major or Minor chords with one finger ('cause chords are hard to play with only one mouse)
Future versions may include support for Add7, Sus2, Sus4 or Diminished chords.
(if requested)

As a nice feature, the piano can also play a couple of songs. No, the songs don't play via musicbricks, but are actually played by the piano!
Since all keystrokes are shown, you can use this feature to learn the songs!!
Songs include mostly classical pieces such as:

    - J.S. Bach: Prelude no.1 in C major, from The Well Tempered Clavier (BVW 846)

    - J.S. Bach: Prelude no.2 in C minor, from The Well Tempered Clavier (BVW 847)

    - J.S. Bach: Prelude no.15 in G major, from The Well Tempered Clavier (BVW 860)

    - J.S. Bach: Variation no.1 from the Goldberg Variations (BVW 988)

    - J.S. Bach: Bourree in E minor (BVW 996)
    (lol, writing this down made me realize that i added waay to much Bach ;D)

    - Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata no. 14, 1st mvt. AKA "Moonlight Sonata"

    - Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 9, final mvt. AKA "Ode To Joy"

    - Joseph Haydn: Symphony no. 88, final mvt.

    - (very wip) Rimsky Korsakov: Flight of the bumblebee

For some less classical stuff, I've added

    - Metallica: The Call of Ktulu

    - Flåklypa Grand Prix theme (creds to you if you actually know that movie)

    - Billy Joel: And So It Goes

So, if you have any suggestions/requests, feel free to share them :P

I'd love to show you how the piano works, but my crappy PC can't handle BL and a recording program at the same time :(
EDIT: nvm

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE PIANO PLAY A SONG!

Here are a some more pics:

The save is probably going to be released in the future, but I still consider this a WIP and want to add more stuff to it. Also, it uses some non-default bricks which I want to reduce as much as possible, so that people don't need to download loads of different brickpacks.

Here is a small video that shows of the chord-mode and record mode. Playback at different speeds is also demonstrated. Thanks alot to Duke838 for filming!

Feel free to rate it X/10

Help / VCE function - need help
« on: May 12, 2011, 02:14:02 PM »
So how do I use VCE events? I don't get the tutorial, would someone mind explaining it a bit more detailed?

Let's say I have a brick called "brick1" on which i state the function "function1"
Then I call the function from some other brick like this:

onActivate -> NamedBrick [brick1] ->VCE_callfunction [function1] [argument goes here]

First of all, what kind of arguments can I use, and how can "brick1" process them?

Let's say I call "function1" with argument "cake"
If I understood it right, my brick "brick1" now saves the value "cake" to a variable called "arg0" Is that right so far?

Can I make an event like:
onVariableFunction -> self -> ifvalue -> [<var:br:arg0>] == [cake]
?

Help would be much apreciated.

Help / Precision in VCE
« on: May 09, 2011, 05:25:41 AM »
So I wanted to save a large number as a variable, lets say the number is 123412341234.

The variable saves just fine, but when i multiply it by 2, the number becomes
2.46825e+12 instead of 246824682468

But I really need the number to be on the latter form, for precision reasons.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Help / Sound packaging
« on: May 07, 2011, 05:02:04 AM »
I wanted to make some sounds to use with events: ontrigger->self->playsound
So I've got a couple of questions regarding the making of the sounds:

1) Do the sounds have to be in .wav, or can they be in .mid as well?

2) Are there any restrictions to the sound file? (Only mono, under a certain filesize/length etc)

3) Last but not at least; how do I make them work ingame? I especially found the server.cs file to be tricky. What should be written in there?

If someone could give me a detailed explanation/link, that would be much appreciated.
