General Discussion / Re: midi to Blockland converter
« on: October 19, 2012, 07:19:26 PM »
Flourish is not gonna work because of all the different sounds :/ Since I have to import all sounds to Blockland as sound packs, I would have to create lots of soundpacks. The songs which work the best are obviously songs written for piano or any other single instrument.

General Discussion / midi to Blockland converter
« on: October 19, 2012, 07:04:48 PM »
I have started learning a bit of basic Python, so I wrote a little script that converts .midi files to eventSave files used in Blockland. The idea was to create music for my harpsichord. It can already play lots of songs, but all of them were done manually (which is tedious work)

It was actually quite simple. I modified the script such that it generates saves that can be used by my harpsichord, but that isn't necessary.

Click on the picture below to see some results of what the script can do.

if anyone is interested in this, let me know. the code is still a bit buggy, but most of the bugs can be prevented/worked around.

Sure, if I happen to be online at the same time as you. I'm not sure if I'll be on tomorrow.

And ofcourse I build planes too, since I love old fighters c:
The older, the better.
Sent you an invite on RTB :) Dunno when I'll be on next time, though.

Yes, the older, the better. I love WW1 planes, I might build one soon!

But would it abruptly stop at once if the engine dies? :u
The pictures look really good though.
I don't know. Depends on how it is hit, I guess. I did it for the cinematic effect :)

Here are some more:

Those planes loving kill me by ocd.
Why does one plane have a 'glassy' propellor and the other an ordinary one? ajbasdhfgsgdfjg
The one with the 'glassy' propellor is functioning properly. The 'stationary' propellor of the Messerschmitt is not working anymore because the engine is damaged badly. That's also where all the smoke comes from ;)

What a coincidence!

-snip-

I have built Messerschmitt in that color too, without markings though. It's also still missing some parts.

:O
I didn't know you built planes too!
That's one lovey Messerschmitt! I love the roosterpit.
Can I see it in-game?

Off Topic / Re: [[The BLF Music Composition Thread]]

Nice topic!
I know nothing about music, but me and my friend used to write "songs" in Guitar Pro for lolz back in the day. We wrote everything from metal to classical, but never quite hit the correct genre :P

I still have them on my computer and listen to them from time to time when I want to laugh a little. I'll upload them later, maybe.

I think I'd definitely go with option 1. There's no reason to have to download a save/prop if you want to use it in a server but then it could also be offered as an option if you do actually want to download it too.

You'd basically click "Use" on the prop you want to have on the RTB interface, you'll get a little loading window, and then your minifig will be given a temp brick to place that prop.
I think option 3 sounds nice. Or if you go with option 1, would it be possible to add a "my favourites"-section? So I don't have to search through the complete list of furniture whenever I want to use my favourite couch.

I'm stuff at math so working out the ratings algorithms for all of this stuff is going to be crazy fun.
All you need is some basic statistics :P

Or you could just "borrow" a suitable algorithm from here

This sounds like a very good idea!

If the quality control is done correct, then I can only see positive things with this.  This would probably lead to a lot more diversity among the servers. I'm tired of seeing the same default saves being used over and over, with the only thing varying from server to server being the addons.

I was also thinking about some sort of "strike" system. If a user submits a save that gets more bad than good ratings, (s)he would get a strike. When the user gets a certain number of strikes, (s)he would lose the ability to submit any more saves, at least  for a certain amount of time. This system could work alongside with having moderators, making their jobs a bit easier.

Take it to the drama section please, will ya?

On topic: It looks quite nice, but definately needs some more work, like previously stated by others.

Very nice, but the castle isn't quite on par with the terrain. You should make it bigger / more detailed. Good job so far!
