Off Topic / Silverware: Metal or Plastic?

Just a thought. With plastic, you have something disposable and something that doesn't require washing, and metal silverware is more appealing to the eye, and probably less expensive to use in the longrun.

I personally prefer the lightweight feel of plastic spoons and knives over metal, and plastic doesn't stick to my ramen either. Which do you prefer?

Off Topic / How many people actually use the Home/End/etc. keys?

Expanding upon the question in the title, how many of you guys actually use the six keys that (on most keyboards) reside in their own little rectangle? I refer to the insert, delete, home, end, page up, and page down keys.

A while ago, I only used the main "block" of keys, while using the arrow keys and mouse to navigate the cursor around the text field. I only noticed recently that using the home and end keys to go to the beginning and end of text fields had become an automatic habit, and thinking about it, I seldom see anyone use these keys.

Out of curiosity, how often do you guys use these keys, if at all?

I honestly didn't see this coming. Etalyx is actually a relatively well-known LPer, so this might bring in a couple of new users, and possibly the attention of even more popular LPers.

Off Topic / update to chrome style: Blockland Light 2

other topic was too old. figured that i'd make this topic for people who are using the style.

made some minor changes, mainly pertaining to the spacing/positioning of the header bar. i also removed the fixed positioning, due to the fact that it was basically pointless and you can just scroll to the top if you want to view your messages/go to blockland.us

so port is helping me with the game in that he's basically recoding everything and adding multiplayer

he's just being so awesome right now and I can't thank him enough. game's now hosted here, but no downloads.

if you really want to test it out (even though it's not very playable at all), you can click and rename the downloaded zip to .love if you have LÖVE installed.

**disclaimer: as I know very well how difficult it is to upkeep large projects, I won't expect this recoding to fully pull through, and you shouldn't either.

Good sir this is the falling box game. As it implies, boxes do indeed fall. However they can also kill you, kill other players, and can be used to kill other players.

There are also powerups, tiny, yellow squares that make a nice ding when they spawn. You can collect these to gain special abilities such as making the playfield gyrate uncontrollably and spawn a giant yellow block that runs though and obliterates everything.

Okay, cool. How do I play?
Arrow Keys - Move and Jump (you can also fall quickly to the ground with the down arrow to avoid incoming blocks while in midair.)
Z - Hold this key while facing a block to pick it up.
Z - Release this key to toss the block you're holding.

Kill the other AI(s) as many times as you can and try not to die.

found this neat little article right here.

it basically talks about the ability to take pictures and recordings of the environment with a simple voice command. it sounds very cool, intuitive. though the fact that it could be stored in Google's databases, with your information being attached to said data, could be a major problem in the future, seeing as anyone may be able to search up anything you've said or done using Google's advanced technology. the prospect is both interesting and a little scary.

Off Topic / i'm completely done with dropbox.

so i just decided to take a look through some of old game projects for nostalgia reasons, and I discovered that half of them were completely erased.

these files included both small snippet libraries, and larger, more important files that would completely break the entire project if erased, and can't be recoded due to the fact that I can't really re-figure something when it's been months since I've touched it. plus how i shouldn't even have to loving do that in the first place.

i noticed that some more recent files were erased as well, and this scares me. i originally thought this only applied to old stuff, but it could actually impact something I'm working on now.

i'm not taking any more risks - i'm keeping what's needed in my dropbox and moving everything else out, then uninstalling. i don't know where to, but anywhere is safer than dropbox.

and to think i called it the best syncing service. pfft.

so i read about this thing called the "copyright alert system," which is supposedly a system to be implemented by major ISPs in the U.S., where they send you some kind of "alert" when you're suspected of downloading or sharing something illegally. they can make you watch educational videos and bottleneck your download speed.
