My problem basically is that I can't find a good way to have a bunch of nice easy-to-access shortcuts to my favorite programs, and everything I've tried always has some major problem that prevents me from using it without getting major anxiety.
What I've tried and aren't options:
- Pinning items to taskbar - unorganized, ugly, limited space
- Pinning items to start menu - same as above
- Using the start menu - too many clicks (start menu > back button > navigate to application folder > click icon)
- Desktop icons - i prefer a clean desktop, except for maybe 1 or 2 icons.
- A 3rd party dock application - either goes too slow, is incredibly intrusive, incredibly buggy, and I don't like auto-hiding them either, because I basically use every side of my screen and the dock will get in the way when I try to do something.
- The Windows 8 Start Screen - this seems to be the best solution, attractive interface, infinite scrolling. ...minus the fact that I'm without windows 8 at the moment
- Anything involving SharpEnviro - sharpenviro is a massive buggy piece of stuff i don't feel like dealing with
- Anything involving LiteStep - i just couldn't deal with this at all, everything was too tiny and i didn't feel like installing new skins either. there were some errors with it too.
- Rainmeter Shortcuts - it was too much effort to add a new shortcut, i'd like to be able to just drag and drop without having to make a new entry in an ini and make sure the shortcut is perfectly positioned. Exception: I am currently in need of a new attractive minimal rainmeter skin, and if you can find one that makes shortcut adding easy, I'm open to that.
- Anything involving Linux - i just can't get used to it. plus, program incompatibilities.
- Anything involving Macs - i'd like to keep my money, thanks.
For some reason I feel as though I won't get a response because of how incredibly stingy I'm being, but I figured I'd ask you guys anyway, since you seem to know about what's "new", "hip", and different.
