Like? All I know are mods that are dead and a few old games like Supreme commander
To name two, Krater and Magicka were both pretty much dead last time I checked. Oh, and the settlers 7.

If we make it onto steam the community will become huge.
There are tons of games on Steam with dead communities.

Add-Ons / Re: Simple UI (GUI Replacment)

Everything having to do with replacing default content could be easily put in the same sentence as "pick your poison".

Read-Only (blocks updates)
User Content (file replacement may not be great for hard drive)
Custom UI (GUI takes longer to create, incompatible with some mods)

Nobody should ever recommend just one method.
Except the read-only method doesn't block anything. It just doesn't write the updated file to the disk, which is what you want anyway.

Keep in mind, if there is ever a game update that modifies any UI elements you will have to make the UI folder in your blockland directory readable and writeable otherwise the game wont update and you'll probably crash, this will overwrite the replacement so you unfortunately, will have to repeat the above steps if you wish to continue using this skin.
Not true, what happens on updates is exactly the same as on other launches with modified files, except it downloads the update first (and writes it to the cache.db).

Wait, there are people who buy games on Amazon?

Anyway, are the purchases from Amazon platform-specific (from their perspective)? I'm assuming you'll still be able to use the keys with any version downloaded from bl.us too.

Oh, and why does it only seem to be available in the US?

Depending on the complexity, I'll also be adding the ability to load bricks from this client so you won't have to use the slow ingame uploading or have to go into your hosting panel to upload it there. If this isn't in the initial release it'll be in the next update.
Couldn't this be added (including the server functionality) to mainline RTB instead?

General Discussion / Re: 50k BLID's?

I don't understand why this would have anything to do with Steam

If BL gets on steam wouldn't everyone buy keys regularly like everybody else? I imagine you can download Blockland from steam and then hitting the 'buy' button would link you to a steam page or Blockland.us to buy it. Why would 8k keys need to be reserved?
I doubt BL would be special-cased for that. I'd say reserving a bunch of keys seems like the most likely way it would be done, considering the circumstances.

Why not just have a comment system for the servers ratings like amazon. They rate and have a comment and can be flagged for spam and if too many flags it get removed.
Seems a bit silly, considering the amount of time the usual server stays up for. Permanently storing the reviews doesn't really make sense either, since the host might decide to host something else with the same set of variables that the system filters the comments by. And even if you get all that worked out properly, if you look at most posts on add-ons and RTB add-on comments, do you really think enough people would say something interesting for it to be worth reading through the crap?

Yeah that'd be good. I kinda underestimated the complexity of room access control I think. What I'm going to go for at the moment is:

 1. Rooms can either be public/private.
 2. Private rooms can have a list of always-permitted users.
 3. Private rooms can have an option to "allow invitations" to be sent from either users/mods/admins/owner.

I think that meets all the requirements?
I think it depends on whether private rooms are persistent. It doesn't really make sense to have persistent-ish options (such as a permanent ACL) for non-persistent rooms.

IMO I don't think public rooms will be used enough to justify all those categories, they will just end up looking empty and dead. Not sure categories should be such a big thing, after the first few weeks of people trying it out, I doubt there will be enough rooms to warrant them.
For once, I agree.

Definitely, but that's not a category.
IMO, privates shouldn't need to be categorized though, so in a sense it'd be.

On that topic however, how do people think invite-only rooms should work? Would it essentially be an access list of permitted people or a one-time one-use invite to the room that expires once you leave?
I'd say one-time one-use sounds best for the use-case, if you need anything permanent you'll probably use something else anyway (Skype/Mumble?).

Well, that seems like it solves the mystery of why it appears for me on WINE, and on other people's screenshots, but not for me on native Windows. Both on a relatively clean Win7 install, and a Win7 install that (IIRC) used to have Office 2010 installed.

You're about to go to a page that may contain ads?

What does that mean?
