Off Topic / I think I might have lockjaw or something
« on: November 24, 2013, 12:56:04 PM »
A few days ago, I got a completely random severe pain under my chin for the second time. I'm really not sure what it is. Right below my chin, where I imagine the salivary glands or something are, my jaw hurts so much that I can't move it at all. I imagine I probably could move, it just would hurt worse if I did.

At first I thought one of my salivary glands were swelling up or something, but I don't know if it's in the right place for that or not.

My second guess was that it was lockjaw- I actually first heard about it on an episode of Good Mythical Morning. But that sounds like something that lasts much longer than what I had. Both times it was a sudden pain in my jaw, and both times the pain subsided after a minute or two so I could move fine again. Every time I hear about lockjaw, it's described as lasting longer and a whole bunch of ways to relax your jaw muscles are listed.

So yeah I have no idea what's happening. I'm a little worried it's a symptom of something pretty bad but I don't know what it could be. D:

(click the image)

So I recently rediscovered Bad Lip Reading, and it got me thinking:
"What would this be like in Blockland?"

So, I grabbed some random videos people made and dubbed them over with my lip-reading. Although this is my first time reading lips, so it may be a little off.

Off Topic / My mic is picking up and playing back audio for no reason
« on: November 15, 2013, 07:03:30 PM »
I always thought that I was just hearing things, but apparently my mic is actually doing something I don't think it's supposed to

In control panel, 'listen' is unchecked, but for some reason when I get really close to the mic or talk really loudly into it, it still plays back some audio through my speakers. I never realized it was actually doing this until I started playing music and it rang because of the feedback.

Turning my speakers up very high, I can talk into my mic and hear everything I'm saying being sent right back at me louder, as if I have 'listen' enabled. But it only seems to do that if I talk RIGHT into the mic or if I something is being really loud. Otherwise it seems to act normal

Off Topic / Eugh I hate iTunes
« on: November 11, 2013, 09:00:27 PM »
I've gotten several iTunes gift cards from people and I thought I'd finally try to use them. Normally if I have a computer I just listen to music via YouTube or to what my dad already had downloaded on our LAN, and if I watch movies or tv I just do it on Netflix. So I really don't have a need for iTunes, but I thought I'd check it out anyways

It seems like they're just trying their absolute hardest to make things difficult for you if you don't own all of their Apple products already.
So even if you'll never use it (which I won't with all my gift cards), they require you to put in all sorts of billing and payment information that I keep having to bother people to get over and over since it repeatedly wants verification.

As far as I can tell, downloading music works alright. I don't know about Movies or TV, but books are a pain. That was the biggest thing I had interest in looking at, but apparently I can't read anything unless I have an i-something. ipad, iphone, etc. Lucky me, I have nothing like that. And even if I could read it, it won't let me buy anything unless I own one. But I couldn't ever read it anyways since they're apparently in a format nothing can read, and even if it could be read, you'd have to get rid of something else blocking anything but ibooks from using it.

So now I have loads o mone and nothing to do with it. Thanks Apple :I

Games / $20 on Steam, what do
« on: November 04, 2013, 04:41:00 PM »
So normally I could come up with something easily, but my circumstance is kinda difficult...
If the game isn't super G-rated, I probably can't have it until I move out. So no gore, language, vulgarity, etc.

I already have Audiosurf and Battlefront II, any more suggestions?

Off Topic / What is audacity good for?
« on: October 29, 2013, 05:45:11 PM »
I've used audacity for a while now, just to mess with and often to record my computers sounds or my voice for a video or something. But as far as actually editing the sound, audacity seems extremely limited.

I know I can make some very basic (pretty bad) sound effects, there's plenty of tutorials for that sort of thing. But I can never find any sort of tutorials for anything beyond that. For example- I can find tutorials for robot voices, Vader voices, and that sort of thing, but honestly they all sound pretty low quality. I've always wanted to figure out how to do some more cooler sounding voices or effects that are higher quality but I've found little-to nothing like that online.

Is Audacity just too limited for that sort of thing? Or do you have to know more about the various sound effects and options? I always read that online musicians use audacity in one way or another, which leads me to believe that I can do more with it, but if that's the case then I have no idea how.

Off Topic / United States the "wealthiest nation on earth"
« on: October 19, 2013, 09:12:29 PM »
$17,038,625,000,000

So apparently we hit 17 trillion dollar debt mark sometime without me knowing about it. But seriously, $17 trillion dollars. That's 12 zeros. We are the country with the most debt on the planet. We have more debt than the entire European Union combined. And yet some of us still think they can honestly call the U.S the wealthiest country on earth? Really?

I'm not saying what we should do about it, but we should do SOMETHING about it shouldn't we? All I ever hear us doing in regards to this nowadays is "raise the debt limit!" When are we going to realize that this is an incredibly serious problem? When my parents were kids the debt was only in the billions, when did this happen!?

I feel like eventually China and all these other countries are going to realize that we're never paying them back and they're just going to stop trading with us entirely and watch the U.S implode on itself. Or they're going to come and take what we owe them.

Also, this is somewhat relevant

So anyways, yeah I just felt like complaining about this.

Off Topic / Webcam issues..
« on: October 18, 2013, 04:52:42 PM »
Ok so I've been trying for a long time to find a good place to put my webcam. Just about nowhere really works, so finally I decided to just stick it upside down on a shelf above my monitor. This is probably the best angle I'm going to get, and it's just about the only one that allows me to actually look at my monitor and still look like I'm looking at the webcam.

...although now I have the issue of having an upside down webcam. It seems like it would be an easy fix, but of course it has to be much more complicated than it needs to be. I happen to have the only webcam on planet earth with a driver that doesn't have a vertical mirror option, (it's a hercules deluxe optical glass if anybody cares.) hngg

And everywhere I look online, people keep saying there's this option in Skype under Tools>options>video settings that lets you flip it, but for some reason that option decided to be non-existent for me

And yes, I tried hitting webcam settings. That only brings up my driver's settings which has no verticle mirror option.

Suggestions & Requests / Some FOV things
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:38:38 AM »
And have our game ripped apart for not having an FOV slider? No thanks.
An FOV slider would be nice, for players to get a more comfortable view and it'd be useful for making videos too

And if it's not hard, it'd also be nice if we could get a couple keybinds for changing the fov- one to zoom in, and one out

YESSSS

If you don't know what this series is, it's basically a series of games where you play as a stick figure trying to accomplish some kind of task. You click on an option and it will play out that option and bring you to another one, kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

This guy made three other games similar to this one, and fourth one finally came out

So I finally got around to finishing another video-
Levels - by Chekelo

There was a lot less sound effects in this song so it wouldn't have worked nearly as well if I used the same idea that I used in Avast Your Blocko. So this is what happened instead, gtg to bed like- right now so I'll make a custom thumbnail tomorrow

General Discussion / Why clear your bricks before leaving?
« on: October 05, 2013, 03:46:46 PM »
This is just something I've kind of always wondered. In Fort Wars, Freebuilds, and other kinds of server, I keep seeing people put quite a bit of effort into a build of some sort only to clear their own bricks and then leave. Why do people do this?

Is it because people are afraid their work will be saved and stolen? And if they're just going to clear their bricks anyways, why not just build in single player? It just doesn't make sense to me to contribute to a server or build and then just delete it all and leave, and I've never really remembered to ask anybody about it until recently.
