So while browsing random effects and transitions and stuff in Sony Vegas, I found one transition that gave me
this idea
I think it worked pretty well

Off Topic / what plugins are there for Vegas Movie studio?
« on: July 21, 2013, 03:40:47 PM »
I think I've heard tidbits here and there about plugins for Sony Vegas. I wasn't sure if this was just talking about the media effects and stuff already included or if there was some downloadable content that could be added in, and if it does exist- whether or not it's free

So do any of you guys know of anything like this that exists? Preferably something compatible with Vegas movie studio 11, my Google searches have thus far failed me

Games / Battlefront II mods
« on: July 12, 2013, 04:06:34 PM »
So after buying Audiosurf during the last sale, I had $7 left with nothing to spend it on. Just now got myself Battlefront II for the pc during the summer sale

So far I'm really liking it compared to the xbox version, I also discovered mods cue heavenly music

I've used the mod that lets you play as a wampa in Coruscant and jedi jawas, and I'm downloading the mod that basically adds features from battlefront I into the game
Are there any other good mods I should try out?

Help / Is there anyway to get Gamemode_zombie to work now?
« on: June 28, 2013, 07:58:03 PM »
Iirc there's some update that made gamemode_zombie not work anymore, or at least conflicts with it so that it doesn't work properly. Whenever I try to run it, all the spawned zombies just despawn when the minigame starts. Is there any way to get it to work, or is it unusable at the moment? Or is it supposed to work fine and I just broke it somehow?

Modification Help / editing gamemode zombie appearances
« on: June 28, 2013, 07:19:49 PM »
So I've been thinking of making another version of gamemode_zombie with a different theme to it. To do so I'd have to change the appearances of the zombies and such, so I edited all the files and scripts accordingly and it nearly seemed to work. But then I noticed that I missed the entire file zombie_appearances.txt

So I opened it up and voila! All that I needed to change was right there. However the next thing I noticed was that it was excruciatingly long, it would take hours to edit every node one by one. Is there any way I can speed up the process? Or is there a way I can just delete or ignore a large chunk of the file? I basically want every zombie to have the same colors, so how would I do that?

Finished product

It's a bit hard to see, but I've added shoes I made along with little tubes to look like hydraulics. I added some windshield shades for the arms, two inside-out soda boxes for shoulders, and I made the arm for the claw. That's what I've done since the last update at least.

It's a bit odd looking in a still picture but I think it looks pretty good in motion. No stilts, but it's still 8ft tall since it adds a bit over two feet to my heigth. The right hand has three movable fingers and the left hand is a claw, which you can see better below.

Any suggestions? Changes I should make?

Original Post

So I've started work trying to make one of these sorta things from scratch

The differences I plan on having are:

bendable fingers on one hand [ x ]
cardboard helmet instead of tophat [ x ]
feet instead of big elephant pillars []
One mechanical claw on the left hand [ x ]
A tube looking thing connecting the forearm to the shoulder instead of another cardboard arm segment []

Progress

The helmet needs a little more for it to be finished,
the torso is about done and it has a backpack attached to the back of it so that I can just attach it all to the torso and carry it with the straps,
the forearm is done and has bendable fingers that work like tendons, however I was running low on tape and so it didn't work out quite like I had hoped, so I'm thinking of remaking it

MOAR PROGRESS

The redone arm- or forearm at least. Much more stable and easy to hold. To make things easier I just made it have 3 bendable fingers instead of 5

The updated torso with the updated head attached. I decided on something similar to what was posted near the bottom of page two, where I'd have some decorative shoulders/biceps on top, and then my actual arms would go directly into the forearm. Also my head will go in that little circle in the middle

Say hello to my totally not awkward, super educational Safari Adventure! Where I explore Blockland and look for random animals, and then edumacate you guys about 'em

What is this?
So in the past several weeks, months, years, I dunno, I've noticed people saying that there aren't very many videos in Blockland. I've also noticed how I happen to have $7.50 or so on steam and nothing I really want to spend it on. So I put two and two together and voila! Video contest

Well? What do I get? (prizes)
  • If you do well and I like the video, chances are I'll subscribe. Plus I'll be adding videos to the OP so you'll be getting a lot of views. Those two things are a given
  • We all know that you want a copy of...
    Dota 2 YEeeeeyyy (x3)
  • The grand prize is $6.55 on Steam. I know I said I have $7.50 or so, but the only way I know of to give money from one account to another is via buying something on the steam market, which deducts a little of the money when something is sold.

How long until the contest ends?

As of now this will end in 3 months, on September 10. However this will probably change since I just picked that off of the top of my head and chances are, it's not the best option.

What's the theme?
The theme I decided on was
Day in the life of...

You can go anywhere with this, just as long as it somehow relates to it. Even if it's vaguely.
However this isn't mandatory, just preferred. If you can't think of anything relating to the theme or thought of something good that doesn't relate at all, that's fine.

Rules

  • Keep it G-rated
  • This can be absolutely anything, as long as it's BL related. It can even be showing off a build or a let's play. Although those probably don't have a big chance of winning.
  • It can't be anything made before this topic. I want it to be made with this topic/theme at least in mind.

Potential FAQ
Why aren't there very many prizes?
-Because I don't have much to give, and this is really just a motivator for people to make some more BL videos anyways

Will I get more points for following the theme?
-I'll try and give people who follow it a little more of an advantage in judging, but it really won't be much.

Current Entries
none yet..

If you have any suggestions or ideas for this contest, please feel free to say so. I'm open to criticism.

A while back I asked for this, and I got an answer which worked pretty well. But for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to work anymore, does anybody know why that is?

General Discussion / What kind of "myths" does Blockland have?
« on: May 29, 2013, 10:06:49 AM »
After watching a series of Mythbusters when I was feeling sick yesterday, I started wondering what a Blockland parody of Mythbusters might be like. It seems like it could be a good idea, but there are some problems that would come up.

I think the main issue would be finding any myths to work with. There aren't many myths in Blockland due to the small community in the first place, but besides that, it's much easier to test and find out things in a game like this than in real life. Meaning that anything I could possibly work with would immediately be eliminated as a possibility because others have probably already figured out if it's true or not by the time I would try it.

So while I have doubt that something like this would work well, since this game does revolve around creativity, I thought I'd ask anyways. What kind of myths can you guys think of that may work for something like this? If I can come up with some good ideas I may try and make an episode or two.

Off Topic / How do people get so many views on YouTube??
« on: May 24, 2013, 08:56:51 PM »
So for a long time I've gawked at how many views on YouTube very poorly made videos get.
Videos like Mickey Doonalds.. this got nearly 9,000,000 views

Even a lot of Blockland videos get an insane (at least for the size of Blockland's community) amount of views. Looking at some of my video's related one's, a lot of them have thousands of views. One even had 96,000 or so, and there aren't even that many people who play Blockland

I don't think I've ever even hit 2,000 views on any one of my videos. How do some of you guys manage it? I think the video at the top along with many others are evidence that quality isn't the only thing that gets views. I've shared my videos on these forums, facebook, and to a lot of IRL friends, where else do you guys share video to get those kind of view counts?
