Suggestions & Requests / Lag notification for hosts?
« on: September 18, 2013, 11:21:16 PM »
Hi. I'm just going to let this off right off the bat. I don't really expect it to be made into something or even be put into thought as a possible feature (as it's most likely impossible anyway, and it'd be an incredibly frustrating feature for most even if it were to be optional.). It's just been on my mind.

I host a pretty low-end server with friends, it's a listen server, not dedicated. So lag is pretty common.

The issue is that my server often has sudden spurts of latency issues. Because I am the host, I don't get the effect of lag on my server. There's only 3 ways for me to find out if my server's lagging or not.

  • Check my adapter's activity
  • Have someone say on the server that it is lagging (this comes in account for checking latency as well)
  • Spy on someone to see if their movement is freezing/stuttering (as most people on my server don't say when it's lagging. This doesn't always work because apparently players can appear to be frozen even if there's no latency drops on the server for the host.)
This isn't a complaint as all 3 of these methods are as easy as tolerating the lag, but it concerns me alot as it happens when I don't know how severe the lag actually is on my server.

Just a thought really, what if the host by any chance could get the same lag notifications as players on a listen server?

Let's fix it (if we absolutely have to), in a way which won't break anything else for Syria's population and infrastructure.

We don't need to send any of our own soldiers there, to fight a war which isn't ours. There is already many sides fighting a bloody, agonizing war in Syria. They have been for quite a while now. Most've the sides are not even fighting for Syria. Most of them are sides completely alien to this war and it's reason. If there is any reason anymore.

We don't need any more foreign sides fighting a fight that is not theirs. The reality of this is that it is now a melting pot of everyone shooting at everybody. We wouldn't know for sure, because we don't know what really happens in the heat of this war. We don't get every second of it, and we barely know why this is happening, who is fighting, and how it will end. If it ever will.

which queries me to why we didn't think of intervening before like we are doing now, when twice as many atrocities have been committed, and are happening to this minute even despite the controversy of chemical weapons being used.

I understand why the use of chemical weapons against their own citizens - innocent or not, is enough to get everyone in a whirlwind. But we cannot respond in a way which will only damage this country further than it already has been.

You got a nice setup. A lot of detail put into the game map which can offer some emergent advantages and gameplay rounds.

But when I say emergent, I mean that one of these TDM games are widely affected by what the map layout is. Things on this mapare more randomly placed based on kind of a realistic setup, and not a setup which combines strategic map elements with realistic map elements.

Tactical DM games come with a strategic map setup. People look forward to be able to piece together different tactics and game plans based on the elements on the game map itself.

Try adding some more objects to empty spaces (walls, barriers, maybe buildings on the outside of the center base to give an observing advantage for the attackers), or organize elements such as crates and barriers to add a strategic advantage for both teams in the game.

Otherwise, great work.
