Mapping Help / Torque Constructor Box Making Tutorial! :D:D:D
« on: August 19, 2009, 05:53:33 PM »
Alright, so you want to make maps with torque constructor?  You should know a bit more after this tutorial.

The boxes here are different views of the map, I wrote in where they're viewing from.

Press the circled button, this allows you to create a box.  Click it once, and click and drag where you want it.

Do this to make the floor of the box.  Then click the button again to finish it.  Continue making boxes until you make a room box thing as shown below.

You need to use multiple boxes to make it.  Also, you may notice that yours looks different.  That's because you never put in your textures.  Make a folder with the images your would like to use as textures, they must be something like 512x512 pixels, or any other power of 2. (IE: 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, etc.)

Click the browse button circled, a window should come up.

Press the button I marked 1 and name it Blockland or something like that.  THen press the button I marked 2 and find and import the folder you made with the pictures.  Now you can click the current texture drop box and choose one from the album.

Now go into the Modify menu that is circled and click he button I circled.

Now click two units from the center on one side, click the button again, and do it on the other side.

Now click that button again, click where you want the door's top, then enter 90 where I did, then activate, click the slice button again.

Select the box that is covering the door, then either delete it, or click the circled button.  If you click the circled, it will turn pink, this is normal.  It won't appear in game.

Now go to File > Export as Legacy DIF.  Export it, then put the .dif file and the pictures in your map's zip folder, place it in mission editor.  THere you go! you made a quick map.  If someone can redo this for better clarification, please do.

Mapping Help / Mapping Tips
« on: August 18, 2009, 07:49:11 PM »
Alright, since there's a lack of good maps, or use of good techniques, I'm making this thread to teach you guys some cool things about mapping.

Torque Constructor

Portals
These won't teleport you, so don't get excited.
Portals are brushes that are meant for doors and such, so when you look outside you don't need to see extra geometry to prevent lag, much like Blockland's brick system hiding brick faces that are completely covered.
How to:
Create a brush where you want the portal, fit the brush into the spot.  Now select it, and in the properties box, check portal, as shown below.  The brush will turn pink.

Note:
Make sure the room is closed, make sure there are no spots that you can see out of other than where you have a portal.

Pie Tool
The pie tool is a new tool in the latest version of Torque Constructor.  It's used to make tubes, banked turns, and some more.  It's found under the user section of the tools box.  Feel free to paly with the settings, here's what some of them do:

Segments - How many sections are in the pie.
Start - The first section of the pie, default 0.
End - The last section of the pie.

Hollow Center - Makes a tube if checked.
Center Size X - How many units the center's size will be on the X axis.
Center Size Y - How many units the center's size will be on the Y axis.
Center Top Adjust - How many units high the center is.
Center Bottom Adjust - How many units high the bottom is.

Outside Slope - How high the pie gets, as in swirling up.
Inside Slope - I don't know right now.

That's all for now, I'm just too damn lazy to do the rest right now, I'll do it soon.

Hey guys, I just realized that most posts now are just flaming.  This is a community for a LEGO game.  We shouldn't always be threadstuffting, flaming, and arguing SO much.  It is at that point again where I barely see any positive posts.  This is starting to get tiresome.  Sure, I flame a lot.  My last post was a flame, in fact.  Remember the "be nice" avatar thing?  That actually kept some of us in line, and made it overall funner to post.  Seriously, don't we have a no flaming rule?

No, it's probably not v13, so shut up.

Help / ►►►Can Only Build on a 64x64 baseplate?
« on: August 10, 2009, 06:40:27 PM »
To fix this "issue" you need to disable the "script_terrainbuildrules" add-on.  This is a feature, for a terrain build, to keep everyone from building random junk wherever they please.   Next time, don't enable every add-on you see.

WHAT THE forget IS THIS stuff?!

I'm just trying to SAVE MY loving GAME.  I must create an account, go through millions of loving steps, realize I need a "parent e-mail" AFTER using the family email, so we use a sub-address.  THEN it decideds to crap out, so I have to make a new "gamertag" and then, we have to make the parent account. I have to enter my CDkey AGAIN, and now I can't just copy-paste, I have to type in every box.  Then we have to update to the next "gamer update" so I can save my "gamer game" and get "gamer achievements" so I can get "gamer score".  Microsoft, tacking "gamer" on everything isn't cool.  Also, WHY DON'T YOU loving USE STEAM, I BOUGHT THE loving GAME ON THERE ANYWAYS.

Who else hates this bullstuff?

Games / Combat Arms Review
« on: August 05, 2009, 07:39:09 PM »
I HAD to.  This game is a clone of the popular Valve game Counter Strike.  It's meant to be played online. More on that later.

The graphics aren't that great, the water is just BAD.  They didn't TRY.  It uses a menu system much like the game Cross Fire, it's only 1024x768, until you get into the actual game.  Then it's your specified resolution.

The gameplay isn't really that bad.  But it isn't another counter strike.  It's just CS watered down for kids.  It feels the need to fill your whole screen for a kill message though, something like
5 KILLS.

The community was HORRIBLE.  Apparently, there's no more hackers because of the latest update.  Explain to me how 3 people can kill 5 people in under a second, then.  Also, it was with a loving knife.  Also, the game sometimes decides not to start, much like America's Army 3.  I am NOT returning to this game.

Games / America's Army 3 Review
« on: August 03, 2009, 10:27:31 PM »
Alright, I NEED to review this "game".

So, this is a recruiting tool for the American army. It's supposed to be realistic.  When it was released, most couldn't actually play it, because the master servers were really broken.  The devs continued to blame every problem on the master servers.  The game is meant to be played online, but the networking is really broken.

The graphics are pretty good, I'll give it that, but they're terribly un-optimized.  I should be able to run this at at least medium, because Mirror's Edge looks better, has larger maps, has the exact same engine, and I can run it at decent settings.

When trying to play this game online, you aren't able to escape lag, ALL of the servers have lag.  If you walk down a hall, you'll randomly explode.  If you get in a firefight, it takes you about 7 shots just to kill someone. It will take the other guy about 1.  If you can actually play with competent players, you may have some fun.  Otherwise, the community is just the same as any other game, sadly.

This game has a stuffload of glitches.  First, sometimes, servers will randomly reset the rounds, and won't stop.  Second, you will randomly get another aimpoint.  Third, the training works only 50% of the time.  There was a beta thing on fileplanet once for this game, the devs must have sent them drugs while testing this game, it's impossible that it's this buggy after it's been through an open beta.
