Or maybe this was the "last straw". Did you not see the controversy surrounding Mass Effect 3 and "artistic integrity", or when Gurstman (or however you spell it) had to leave his company over Kayne & Lynch?

He's back at the same office as Gamespot (and gamespot employees regularly feature in Giant Bomb content), where he was fired years ago, he touches on that in the podcast.  Also what does that have to do with writers being friends?  because that's the corruption gamergate is about.

It has nothing to do with the fact the original stuffstarter was a female. It has everything to do with people wanting to find a reason to finally take down these websites. I've heard people complain about these progressively more since last year, so it seems only right that something would have set it all off.

jesus christ cut it with the "female" stuff, they're called women you manchild. 

what's the harm of the websites existing if "gamers" haven't cared for them for years?  Wouldn't they just cease to exist because of the lack of traffic?  Or maybe gamers just want to attack them for trying to actually be journalists and not people who copy and paste press releases.  While I can't say I like sites like Polygon's opinion articles, I'm fine with their existence.

K, you find a bit of advertising to people who do nothing but watch movies, or people who do nothing but read books.  That's a terrible label, everyone does these things, just as everyone plays games.

A) Why should I bother rewriting what has been better said by other people who include more evidence than I could?
B) Any time I try to argue a point I always miss facts or get something wrong, whereas these people have done significant amounts of research

If you really want a highly summarised version, all you need to do is look at the big sites like Polygon and Kotaku. These are not run by professional journalists with degrees, but instead by a bunch of bloggers who are all in cahoots with each other (according to leaked email lists and such). While they do their own separate thing, in big issues like this one they tend to come together and as a group decide on what the "journalists" approach will be.

So people cannot be friends is what you're saying.  Damn, you will hate the games industry!

Zoe Quinn cheated on her boyfriend (something that makes me disgusted by her in any scenario) supposedly 5 or more times with developers and "journalists", and these people have been noted as key promoters for the game and for her. That's probably the biggest example of someone using their contacts to spread out advertising for their game. Normally, proper journalists would step away (there's a certain word, but I've forgotten) if they have a bias and allow for somebody else to do a proper review. These people didn't, and have since tried to mask their activities from the public.

So where was that promotion?  Link me to that.  Because that never happened.  And of course they masked their activities, they don't want to deal with crazy people that literally want to kill them.  Also personal relationships have nothing to do with games.

Also, remember the "Gamers are dead" trend? I wrote an article about that, where I tried to remain slightly neutral in it all. That was their immediate reaction; immediately insult and name-call anybody with a differing opinion based on known truths.

The trend was that "gamer" is a dumb term.  If you really define yourself as a consumer of a single type of media, you have serious issues to work out.  Go outside.

You stubbornly refuse to look at every single bit of evidence we hand you, passing it off for ridiculous and void reasons. I can image in your head right now, it's a bit like; "I don't want to believe this, I want to be the most smart and intelligent person here and dismiss this issue because unlike everybody else I'm clever."

If you're going to continue to not read anything related to #GamerGate, please leave this topic. You're only continuing to push an uninformed and stubborn opinion to people who want to focus on this issue.

So you cannot tell me without sending me a 30 minute video, thus you don't know.

Anita Sarkeesian's argument isn't "MEN ARE BAD" it's pointing out lazy writing is bad, but games are still cool.  She has said that it's important to both enjoy games while being able to criticize them.

If the "obvious corruption" takes you half an hour to explain, you're stretching a lot.

If you don't get informed about something, you have no right to comment on something and be taken seriously.

Seeing as I've "followed" this since it broke (I follow the targets of the harrasment on twitter, I've seen every major "event" in this whole stupid thing), I'm doing the "informing myself" without watching hour long videos by a guy who is against the targets of this 'movement' in the first place.

You sounded like you were using your "female friends" as a tool to make it sound like you weren't a piece of stuff.

Go watch some InternetAristocrat videos. He's a major supporter of gamergate. The thing about gamergate is it all started with a femenist named Zoe Quinn (if that's even her real name) cheating on her boyfriend with a bunch of other dudes.

Nah, I don't have hours to dedicate to a very known starfish.

It all started with a woman (btw, Zoe Quinn isn't her name, it's Zoë Quinn) having a personal relationship not at all related to games.

She also got a game jam dedicated to women (with a buttload of support from all sorts of people, me included) taken down because they wouldn't pay her for her game idea. This is where it starts getting good: the maker of the game jam posted on reddit that they had tried going to several media outlets about it and nobody would report on it.

This started the whole conspiracy towards the gaming media being corrupt. The entire #gamergate movement is about the corrupt gaming media. There are a few starfishs who just try to dox zoe quinn and make death threats to anita sarkeesian or however you spell it but they're not part of the movement and they're certainly not helping the situation.

It started with those guys.  If you're really concerned about the integrity of games journalism, good on you, but gamergate isn't the way to go about that.  The "movement" is real similar to chemtrails people, they require you to watch hour long videos in order to understand it.

So I guess because I have more female friends (especially ones who can absolutely destroy me in video games, art, sport etc) than male friends, I'm automatically a woman hater. kk m8. It's not because I'm actually taking this "hobby" seriously as I want to do it as my career and I am sick of seeing people with no level of appreciation for standards come in and get famous off of it.
Sorry that I actually care enough about video games to want to make awesome ones instead of praising stuffty ones.
I hated and never engaged with the player character, whereas I was happy to make him suffer as much as possible in order to find some kind of engagement within the game.

Fun fact: Normally when I play games I get immersed really easy, to the point I can't actually do anything evil (outside of killing where I have to). I've never played the "evil" or "bad" side to any RPG.

So this game comes along, and it's boring enough for me to want to have the option to put a gun to the character's head so I can go off and play The Last of Us or something engaging on an actually deep level.

Why are you defending this stuffty game? Would you also defend Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing if it turned out the lead developer was a black, overweight lesbian who had suffered with cancer and depression for most of her life and had a leg amputated? There's a reason standards loving exist.

EDIT: I hate that almost all people seem to believe "equality" means "we get to be treated with total respect and we can have no criticism". I don't care if you're male, female, white, black or whatever the forget. If you make a stuffty game and expect people to either pay or donate to you, you get to face the criticism. If you make an awesome game, you get praise.

Tip: people don't want to play games by stuffty people like you.  Btw, you're wasting your time if you think looking at design docs is going to make you a better designer.  Make things, not stare at others' things.  Also you're not going to get a career in games when you're as dismissive and arrogant as you.  Around actual industry forums, you would be basically ostracized for being such a prick.  You're not special for being interested in making games.

Also, you're also super stuffty for thinking that me defending DQ even a little suggests that I don't care what a game is/do not have standards.  Offering criticism, btw, isn't saying "this game is stuffty".  What made you hate the character?  You have said literally nothing of any use to anyone.
