poll makes no sense. x86 is way way outdated. even a x64 option would be preferable in every situation.
yeah, never mind that we call it x86-64, so x86 for short.

Pretty much this. Unless you're using some windows 95 or older programs (most of these actually still work), then pretty much everything you run is going to be compatible. "Oh no, I have to click something to get to the desktop? So horrible! It's not like the desktop is actually even ready to be used during that second or two that you didn't have it open!"
but you can change that now.  Really it's just being afraid of change with the start menu. the real reason windows 8 is stuff is that it's windows, thus it's about as stable as a two year old on a bike and they're moving to close down everything.

picking john marston always ends up making your character looking like a douche bag
Picking anyone makes your character look like a douche.  It's like how Playstation Home could only make serial killers.

Fun fact: this game has maps that don't actually exist in the game files.  Somehow, some endings take place on non-existent maps.

Worth it? I don't want to watch nerd3's vid until I decide
play the demo if you're on the fence, it's completely different from the real game.

research will never be the same
probably will stay the same as it takes a stuffton of money to get the cameras and stuff for what could very well just be a gimmick

ITT Steam Support never existed
They're really slow and can be unreliable.  Don't be a richard.

CS and CS:CZ were very early ports thus should be working fine.  OPFor was relatively recent, but still should be working.  Try verifying the cache integrity.

I'm sorry, but the AI can be just a bit loving autistic.
Correct, the AI obsessively drives quite well.

Panicking civs are like the worst thing ever.

"Oh god a fast expensive car is driving on the right side of the road and is not being chased by cops!"
*Swerves uncontrollably into said expensive vehicle*
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
*Stops the vehicle from moving* *Gets out of car* *Runs away like a loving idiot*
oh wait no you don't know words

I know, but Steam was being stubborn with permissions. It's easier to just run it as root.
Yeah, gmod is horrible about that for some reason.  It completely randomly decides if it wants to install right for me.

Well, you usually don't want to run Steam as root anyway.
Although I run my Garry's Mod server as root.
You shouldn't be running anything as root unless it's any sort of installation process.  In case you didn't catch it (I can't honestly tell, I'm not trying to be an ass here) I was just being sarcastic with the login as root sentence.
There's your problem.
YEAH, GOD.  INSTALL GENTOO, COMPILE EVERYTHING.  HACK THE PLANET

Looks like you don't have proper permissions. Try
sudo chmod -R 755 *

Yeah and while you're at it just login as root all the time.  Why would you change every single file's permissions?!

Run as super user.  Use "sudo" before the command.
