I don't think using native operating systems is a smart idea at all. I've seen many bad reviews.
what

@op:  i suggest adding a few variants of Ubuntu to the list, as Xubuntu is rather popular at the moment.

I'd use Ubuntu or Xubuntu, and it seems that you keep going back to it, so why not?

Don't do it, there's no point.  Just install the 8.1 beta, it fixes so much that was weird:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview?ocid=blprev_pr_wom

Uh oh... valve is actually doing stuff. Does this mean?

It's coming?
Nah, they just figured out how to ship map updates.

I said if you were going to re install use a legit copy and to not use a pirated version. Have you tried to fix your update problem? It may be a simple option somewhere, or you may have to make a registry edit (not that hard, use a guide anyway).
Yes, I can believe that you were giving the helpful tip to install a legit copy that's probably sitting somewhere in my house as opposed to downloading a pirated copy out of convenience, right?

Master of assumptions? All I said is that if you were to install Windows again, you should choose a legitimate copy over a pirated version so you would have update support. Yes, Windows 8 was very buggy on release day, and Microsoft released a flood of updates to fix this. I still do not understand why your computer in particular installs updates on it own, but if you look at action center (the flag in your task bar), any updates should appear there.
So you were assuming that I used a pirated version of Windows.  But shouldn't the OS ask me if I want to update?  The only time it seems to do that is when you're doing a service pack upgrade (or at least in the case of the 8.1 beta).

I haven't used 7 in quite some time, but my computer only updates if I leave it on overnight, or if it asks me and I say yes. Also, I don't understand what you're trying to say in the last two sentences, but sounds like you have corrupted files causing a crash right after boot. Back up files and install a legitimate copy of Windows.
Thank you, master of assumptions.  I bought Windows 8 upgrade on day one.  And only after using windows 8 has it started doing random silent updates that lock up the entire system (though windows 7 was the master of random updates taking up all of my resources), Windows 7 and 8 do the random startup behavior.

If you're complaining about updates, then that's most likely the reason you have such a bad time with crashing. Microsoft releases frequent updates so your computer does not crash. Why would you install an update and not restart anyway. I do that even if it does not ask me to. This is my my computer has never crashed. If your system is using up large amounts of resources on idle, take the time to backup your personal files and do a fresh install of your OS. This will purge your computer of junk slowing it down and you won't crash nearly as much. You can't use your computer every day and not expect to do any maintenance on it.
The problem lies in the fact that windows will sometimes start updating without my knowledge, and completely lock up.  What the forget great design is that?  Also it is simply random in how it will boot up from day to day.  Sometimes it just decides to load up and shut down, how do you even do that?

What is the benefit of using Linux over Windows? I use Windows 8. I don't code or mess with the appearance of my OS. I've used Ubuntu temporally in the past and it looked like a brown Windows. Icons and a start bar, nothing too different except the placement of my files.
because it doesn't randomly stuff itself, and it's generally faster.

Your GPU is not for gaming, it's for basic multi-monitor for businesses.  Sega probably didn't optimize the game at all and won't run well without a decent GPU.

Why so I can play at low settings with like 25 fps?
No harm in trying it, there's a free weekend going on right now.

Think of this when choosing a distro: how long do you want to spend setting it up?

If you don't want any trouble and the most support, Ubuntu (or one of its variants) is probably best, or maybe Mint or Fedora, though I have never used those.  If you want to really learn about Linux, maybe do Arch, though I really don't recommend it for your first distro.  Don't use Gentoo for your first, or maybe ever.  It's a slippery slope.  :cookieMonster:

YES.  DISTRO FIGHTS.  I loving LOVE THEM.  let people use what they want.  some people actually use computers to do things instead of endlessly customizing their desktop in search of the one that will use less than 40 mb of their 8gb of ram or whatever.  Jesus christ, the OP asked why Ubuntu was loving up, so help him with Ubuntu, don't tell him to go download the distro you use because "it's better", "unity sucks", or "ubuntu uses resources".
Go to here and download ubuntu 13.04, 12.04 LTS stinks, so after you get it burn your richard it into a disc in windows MAKE SURE ITS >700MB insert to your disc drive then reboot your pc and go to the boot from what mode in BIOS select CD-DVD and clik enter it will boot you into ubuntu and there you [i think] have it if the problem continues then you have a forgeted up computer/disk/processor/ram/whatever the forget i can think of

"The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now."

The consoles we have right now, LIKE PC?
