Again his statement confirmed that that was the case when it came to a head. Human rights are important and i'm glad that slavery is abolished. However the war was also majorly on the issue of big government and allowing the federal government to strong-arm states into doing what they wanted the state to do. It's just always assumed that the South fought only for slavery and based on that alone. Narrow vision in history is the result of who won the war naturally. You only see tribal confederate soldiers in Hollywood.

even so, it seems a bit drastic and handicapped to start a war over that
there's a reason the country is democratic; if you failed the vote, you failed the vote. deal with it.
