A trigger would be synonymous with starting.

"cause (an event or situation) to happen or exist."
You can "trigger" PTSD. It's not some hip new meaning you can just come up with

I was responding to the original comment "Trigger warnings are bullstuff" with an example of a legitimate trigger that would warrant a warning. Trigger warnings can be made beyond tumblr, you know.

But the word "trigger" is a made up term. Attention whores on tumblr made it up. People who actually have PTSD aren't "triggered" by things that upset them. They are upset by things that upset them due to whatever happened that caused their disorder.

Name one person that has been actually diagnosed with PTSD that claims to have a "trigger".

Trigger warnings are for people who have like PTSD from rape, military service, attempted Self Delete, etc. For people still recovering even the mention of this stuff can trigger panic attacks and the like, so it's a warning
