If running it as root doesn't help then that means it's not a permission problem. Try plugging your ipod into a different USB port? Idk really what the probelm is, but I'd ask around in the LM community. I never used Linux Mint so I really don't know where to get support there either. Sorry.

That's because you are running it as root. Not as you. Go to "/home/<your username here>/Desktop" to access your files.

If you're not sure how to get to "/home/" then click that hard drive icon. That will take you too your filesystem's base. From there you should see your home folder. Within it, is your user's folder.

Yeah, that's MATE.
Alright, then to launch your file manager as root, just use "sudo caja".
Caja is MATE's file manager.
If that doesn't work then try "sudo nautilus".
Because if you actually are using Gnome, then Nautilus is your file manager.

NOTE: whenever you use "sudo" before a command, you will be prompted for your password. Enter it and your program will launch.

Linux does not have a default file manager. There are many different ones, and they vary by DE.
And by Gnome do you mean MATE? MATE is the continuation of Gnome 2, so you might have gotten confused.

You should come up with an original name instead of using a homophone of "Blockland".  Like if you made a console and called it the "Nindendo VVii", you'd still be in trademark trouble because you're making a deliberately confusing product.  The situation is  no different here.

Furling needs us! Everyone come up with a cool name.

Mine is Createria.
It has "create" and sounds like a place.

"su" just makes you root. Anything you run from a "su" terminal will run as root.
Putting "sudo" before that just lets you use your own password instead of root's.

If you don't know already, root is the user on every Linux computer who has access to absolutely everything. It has permission to access all files and commands on the system. Running something as root allows you to have these permissions.
"su" stands for "super user" which is root.
