No, I must predict and spoil all of season 3.

Onion becomes the antagonist, and sardonyx is involved.

Haha you can't stop me.

Hey, I just had a thought. Lapis was trapped in a mirror and used as a tool, what about the desert glass?

It seems like it's corrupt though, aimlessly creating walls and pillars.
Or maybe it was trying to keep the crystal gems away, having the same idea as Lapis, that they were keeping it trapped.
Lapis had hydrokinesis, the desert glass has psammokinesis... Maybe really powerful gems are trapped in tools on purpose, only to gain partial control of their powers when the item is damaged.
Maybe that's how the homeworld gems contain gems of such power.
Adding to this, the pyramid temple was powered by a gem that was used for the purpose of keeping a structure together like the desert glass.

And when steven pulled it out of its item, it looked like it was about to regenerate but it couldn't for some reason.

If you check out the Wiki's episode guide, Onion Friend's description is there too.

Also,

IRL desert glass is formed when sand is struck by lightning or something else that would make it turn into glass.
That's interesting.

And they obviously weren't going to make it. Lapis must have had some ability to let her travel that fast.
Or maybe there are warps on planets in our solar system. Then she could have found the galaxy warp on one of those planets.

ftfy
No dude, it's totally polymorphic sentient rocks that control our government at the highest level!

475
They can shoot orbs across the galaxy really fast. Like seriously, that would take like hundreds of years if it was just shot using some cannon or something. It must be some sort of faster than light travel.
But then again, lapis flew to homeworld using only wings made of water. Maybe it's within the solar system? That would still take a long time though.

476
and they can be shaped like giant hands
Maybe it's a metaphor.
Homeworld gems might really appreciate art.

477
Wait until the stevenbomb and then do sardonyx like everyone else.

478
What else would jasper be that would cause her to be multicolored and to have pupils?

We're getting a third season.

Inb4 it's entirely Steven bombs with short hiatuses between each one.

It's an animation error. Notice how it's a Rose bubble as well.
