kay now i got manjaro installed properly on a vm and i have basic stuff up and running
What kind of customizations (mostly GUI since I'm a windows guy) are readily available?
If you get xfce4 then you can make it look and work exactly like Windows.

How about if you don't want people to respawn then set their lives counter to one.

Package it with the quake-like weaponset and release as a gamemode that uses the quake-like player.

What benefits does linux have over windows besides being free and 100% customizable? I'm honestly curious.
It's a free, open-source, lightweight alternative to Windows. And it can pretty much do anything that Windows can. Including run Windows programs.
Extremely good development platform.
Good for gaming.
Runs well on just about any computer.
Also it's good for hosting servers.
In the screenshot I had to disconnect form the internet for a while, but the server kept trying to authenticate. Lol Blockland is dum.

WINE still can't run everything, but it's mostly the fault of the application developers (they are using stuffty code or frameworks (and sometimes viruses/spyware like gameguard and xtrap))
then again aren't all compatibility problems just problems of the application developers being too incompetent to use cross-platform libraries? cross-platform game development is easy
Anything that can't run on wine is probably not worth my time anyway.

I wouldn't say Windows is the broken down Honda. It takes a lot of effort to get Linux going because of all the missing support.
Unless you know what you are doing. Or are using Ubuntu.

I honestly use Linux for my personal computer because it is the most customizable thing loving EVER. I use windows on my gaming computer though. I might switch my gaming computer to Linux though due to Windows being so bloated and slow. And also I just figured out how to use Wine effectively so Windows is obsolete to me now.

Where is Red Star OS?
Where it should be.

Dunno what to tell you then. If a screen isn't being found it's a driver problem.
Aw. That's too bad. I'll do some googling around to see if I can find a solution.

Try using just nvidia. 304xx supports my card as well but it doesn't work for me, either. Same error.
I've tried it with both drivers.

You need to install video drivers.

Are you using Arch Linux? If you've got an nvidia card, just type pacman -S nvidia and it should work. If you've got an ATI card, type pacman -S catalyst. Otherwise, pacman -S xf86-video-vesa.
I already installed nvidia-304xx which is specific to my graphics card. And yes I am using Arch Linux.

It's i3. I like tiling WMs because it makes your workspace so functional, but they take getting used to when you're used to floating window managers.

Your program would open, it just would have no window decoration and you wouldn't be able to move it. See this post.
Oh. That makes sense. That means that I can still use Wine to execute my BL dedicated server batch file.

I ran into a file while trying to run "startx". Whenever I run the command it gives me the following error after initializing a bunch of stuff.
Code: [Select]
(EE)
Fatal server error:
(EE) no screens found(EE)
(EE)
I found this sort of ironic since the error was being displayed on my screen.
